How short does the story have to be? I got couple of choices for the stuff I've written for Fiction Press so I need to be sure.

somewhere about 1000 words, but I've done more, just send me some ideas, Lance Manion for example just sent me his whole short stories book from which I could choose :D

So, shortly after that, I'll be sending you my story.
But I'm wondering what you mean by "keep it within boundaries" in regards to explicitness.
TBH my story has a lot of violence/graphic imagery.

oh no, graphic violence isn't that much of a problem, it's more profanity that I don't like ^^

I've got family and friends scattered across the NJ/PA area, so I'll be sure to keep your family in my thoughts as well.

Glad to hear the tsunami didn't cause too much trouble, though. :)

Hopefully these types of requests will become common as it gives this place a chance to showcase what it can produce in conjunction with other talent. Now, if only we could get game developers to look in here....

Second, gratitude only stems so far, and as a writer myself I understand the personal connection between writer and story. That being said, the quality of the narrative to be read is very important. Unfortunately, using the fact that you're often told you have a great reading voice does not, in any way, qualify a great reading voice. Everyone has their own opinions and you should give us the chance to judge for ourselves. I don't say this to be rude-- hell, you may have as great a voice as the guy who did Dot Dot Dot-- but how would I know? The point I'm begging is: give us an example(s). If you need something to read, there are plenty of monologues out there. Pick one that closest resembles the types of roles you'd like to play. Or multiple if you're looking to round yourself out. If you'd prefer to debut with something original, then post your samples to the dumping grounds.

Third, and last, and this is more to be nit-picky than anything else, please be sure to stick to "our" terms. Actual writers don't measure the length of anything by page; less so the size of a page; but by word count. Using what I know I can rationalize that on an A4 sized page, at normal font size (12) using a monospaced font face (Courier New), a writer could fit 250 words. Taking that into account, the 2 A4s you're limiting yourself to would effectively become 500 words. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy vernacular. But you're going to want to address the common denominator, and here that would be a writer. If you prefer, and which would probably be best, just put both versions. Example: "2 A4s (500 words)..." In this way the term can integrate into the common denominator and we'll be able to use the phrase in turn when addressing other voice actors. And this one point has really turned into a rant, I apologize. My morning coffee makes me verbose; that's what you're seeing here.

P.S. I did some research, because I didn't want to post this without looking, and I found that you do have a sample of your work; a 9 minute sample, in fact. You should have posted that. Anyway, here's the link, for anyone considering this offer: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/505771

First and foremost, thank you for such a lengthy post, I do just take this as constructive criticism and not as a rant, as this is a first post on the writing part of the forums and any/ all tips are appreciated!

Here are some examples of my voice, recorded in vocaroo, so the quality is a bit less than what it normally is:

don't call my name 'narrated' - lady Gaga

Psalm 38, King James Version
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0h0pb6xMGlY

Hamlet's soliloquy
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0dioeggvNuw

more examples can be found in the link Deathcon listed or on my youtube page, where you can find me playing black mesa or narrating silly songs.
in regards to the length of your story, it can be anywhere up to 1000 words, that's twice the 500 people!
If it's more, just give me a good reason to do it or give me part of it, note that youtube's cap is 15 minutes.
Also, after I've narrated it you can use it in whatever way you see fit, play it to your family, paste it in a movie, use it to persuade a publisher, heck whatever! just make sure to credit me please, that'd be nice.

I will read yer short short stories Posted October 10th, 2012 in Writing

Hello everyone

I'm a guy who likes to read things and more than often I've been told that I've got a good storyteller voice, so what I'm offering here is that I read your short stories (Max 2 A4's) and record myself reading them, they can be all genres and sorts of stories just give me a little explanation and I should be good, some explicitness is allowed, but keep it within boundaries, k? I'm asking to keep them very short, otherwise it won't fit on youtube.

if you'd like to hear my voice first, just go to my only submitted thing here on NG or visit my youtube page /drsongamingconsult

PLEASE post in this thread first to say you want something narrated, afterwards you can send me the whole text to my email: sonbiru@hotmail.com Make sure you send the text just in the email as I won't open any attachments. Full credit will be given to the writer (duhh) and if there's anything else you'd like to know, just shoot!

tl;dr I'll narrate YOUR stories!

I will read yer short short stories

Nice to meet you Tyler and everyone else. Another nice thing about these contests is that I get to find more people that I'd like to work with or at least people I can refer producers to!

Well it IS nice to join a contest like this and see how some people use the same theme and work out such different and brilliantly original things. And it's always good to meet a mix of amateurs, people with more experience and pro's.

On the other end, we promise to be fair and do our best to give you tips on how to be better the next time around. We all want to see you guys grow. Also, feel free to give you own insight on other entries while you're waiting for the scores. Again, be respectful and constructive. Keep flaming and trolling out of it.

heck the reason I entered wasn't to win ,it was to get critique and tips from people who know their shit, I will however be shitting bricks the hours before they announce the winner... scratch that, i'm shitting bricks already

Alright here it is, my first ever English...well... radio play really. It was hard to cut it down to 6 minutes and had to cut off dramatic moments here and there, but hey, I sure hope you like it!
