Response to: PSN down for up to 2 days Posted May 9th, 2011 in Video Games

To the people supporting Sony on this:

Stop. It is true that there is no such thing as 100% security, however, you have to realize that the way in which it was handled was incredibly poor and sluggish. The main problem here is that Sony, once again, made an easy/stupid mistake that cost them and a lot of people money and inconvenience. It's easy to forget that it's not just Sony and its customers that are hurt by this, developers are hit very hard as well. There are a lot of games that came our just prior and during the PSN outage and now developers are losing and/or missing out on a lot of sales and money.

Some food for thought.

To the people that are happy about this outage:

Shush. You would be very unhappy if a similar situation happened to you. This goes beyond being a gamer and loving and supporting a system. Since this outage stocks have declined, developers have lost literally weeks worth of potential sales, credit card and personal information was let out in the open and a lot of people couldn't enjoy their console fully. If you get pleasure out of this, you need help. This could potentially happen to any network and is something that is not enjoyable to deal with at all. Even if a network was 100% hack proof you still shouldn't get enjoyment out of another network getting hacked, companies losing millions of dollars and personal information out in the open.

Both Sony and the hacker(s) are not something you want to stand up for right now. Both are fully at fault and were pretty selfish and/or careless about the whole situation. If you're a true gamer you will realize that Sony fucked up and now they and by extension, millions of other people are going to have to deal with it. At the same time you will realize that the hacking did absolutely nothing to benefit anybody but the hackers themselves. They have done nothing for you, they do not care about you, they have contributed nothing that benefits you. I suppose you could make the argument that now the PSN will be more secure, updated and people will get 'free' games and services for a bit. However I'm sure the vast majority of people (including Sony) would have preferred to reach that destination from a very different route. Every gamer should hope this gets resolved and that it doesn't happen again. People really need to stop focusing on defending companies and remember what gaming is all about, games. Enjoy your games regardless of which platform they are on, online or offline, from role playing game to first person shooter. Just enjoy the hobby as it is truly meant to be.

Lame. Waiting until the end of December for a game like Halo: Reach ruins a lot of the appeal, at least it would for me. The game will still be fun but you really do increase the chance of the story and other things being ruined by the internet if you wait that long.

Did i ever say i don't like halo? No i think Halo is really fun but just to me every game is the same, and i wanted somebody's explanation as to why i should get the game. I've see videos on a few different websites. Chill the fuck out.

I didn't say you didn't like the game. I said do the research yourself and if you don't like it, then don't worry about it. You arranged your original post in the fashion that Halo is catching your attention and you want people to change that image for you, at least for Reach anyway.

If you want to know anything about Halo: Reach perhaps you should check out the official thread on Newgrounds or check out this thread: here.

The question is rhetorical. Of course it is because an admin made the topic. And moderators can't lock this if they wanted to because LJ will go ape shit due to them locking a thread he posted in.
No I wouldn't - I can always unlock threads if I wanted to.

The only time I've "gone ape shit" is when moderators have deleted threads or posts that I've either posted in or seemed absolutely fine to me, which is more about protecting what you guys scribble than anything else.

Talking of redundancy, you might at least post your thoughts on the matter at hand.

P.s. you're both banned indefinitely. Have a nice day.

Eh...I seem to remember a thread called "Late Night with Brian Peppers" that was deleted out the blue without warning. It was a pretty popular thread to the users and it had a lot of quality. More so than some of the threads today (Stickam). You have fought for user's rights in the past but you have been mixed at the same time. It is hard to get a read of of you.

As for the burning of the Quran/Koran obviously these people have every right to and it just goes to show how the world is afraid of radical muslims. The news would not be making this big deal about it if it were burning of Bibles or Torahs. It might get a clip on the O'Reilly factory but nothing more than that.

Having said that they are free to do what they wish, I don't think it is a proper response. As much as I think Islam is a bullshit religion, burning their books will really prove nothing or bring anything good out of the situation. In fact, you will piss off a lot of Muslim people who aren't radicals and who have fought against radical Islam, what good does that do? Fuck their "Allah" and fuck this dude as well. What we need to do is stop taking cheap strikes at each other and find other ways of progressing towards peace.

Considering the franchise was pretty much PlayStation exclusive for years it really isn't. It was originally expected to be a PS3 exclusive.
I understand that, but the US versions of both PS3 and 360 were both released simultaneously and US Xbox 360 users have been able to enjoy the game for a while. The fact that the Japanese version, which for all intents and purposes should have been released before EITHER US translation, is only now in sight is pretty bad marketing.

They didn't really have a choice. A lot of deals and money is sent around to arrange these launches. It was wait a while after launch or never.

It would have been a shoe in but I think due to Microsoft charging for Xbox LIVE there have been some complications in the production. If they can iron those issues out then it will happen, if not then no.

Official Batman: Arkham City Thread Posted September 1st, 2010 in Video Games

Introduction
Welcome to the official thread for news, rumors and general talk about Batman: Arkham City. Please keep all content relevant to the topic. I will update this as often as I can, but if you have information I have yet to post, feel free to do so.

Information
Game: Batman: Arkham City
Developer: Rocksteady Studios
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment/DC Entertainment
Release Date: Q3 2011
Genre: Action-adventure, beat 'em up, stealth
Platforms: Xbox 360/PS3/Windows

Plot
The story for Arkham City takes place one year after the events of Arkham Asylum. Quincy Sharp, former warden of Arkham Asylum, has taken credit for stopping the Joker, and used that notoriety to become mayor of Gotham City. As neither Arkham nor Blackgate Prison are in any condition to hold inmates, Sharp buys out a large section of Gotham's slums and arms the perimeter with mercenaries from a group called Tyger in order to create "Arkham City". The prisoners are brought into Arkham City and given free rein, told only to not attempt escape. To oversee the city, Sharp uses psychiatrist Hugo Strange who appears to have his own secret plans for the city. Batman maintains a vigil over the city, worried that the situation may get out of hand. Part of the setup for "Arkham City" was contained in plans in a hidden room in Sharp's office in Arkham Asylum.

The events of the game are set in motion when Two-Face, seeking to gain status among the inmates and other villains outside the city, devises a plan to publicly execute Catwoman. Batman decides for both the safety of Gotham and of his past romance with Catwoman that he must stop the execution by entering Arkham City himself.

A teaser trailer was released, and featured a battered Joker, apparently still recovering from his wounds in the first game, being nursed by Harley Quinn, while Gotham descends into chaos. The sequel was confirmed by famed Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy to be "really, really dark". While relating the game's dark nature to the animated movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Conroy also said, "It involves a lot of the villains and it goes to that area - it's that dark."

Gameplay Information
- Interrogations replace the Riddler maps of the first game.
- Batman can now taunt his enemies via a button press.

- The team wants to push the "forensics" angle of the first game more, incorporating puzzles in them that will become more complex as the game goes on.
- Most of the key gadgets that were unlocked late in the first game are available by default
- Batman's been given a new gadget called the "broadcast analyzer".

At 9/1/10 02:18 PM, DirtySyko wrote: Grubby, if you're such a big Halo fan I don't see why you'd want to sell off your 360 and pass up playing Reach. Even the idea of just borrowing it doesn't seem that good, because most people like Halo for online, not campaign, and how much online are you going to get from a friend who lends you their copy? You'll also have to wait for them to be done with it, and how long would that take?

Plus, you should just avoid selling your consoles and games anyways. It mostly always leads to regret. Just save up money and buy a PS3 and have the best of both worlds. Go find a part time job flipping burgers.

This. I am one of the people that has done this. I own a PC, Xbox 360 and a PS3. As a gamer it is hard these days to really stick to one console. If you have already purchased and put a lot of money into one console and are thinking about getting another, there is no real need to get rid of the previous one. Keep the console for experiences that you might/will miss if you get rid of it. In the long run it is very satisfying not having to worry what platform a game is going to be on because you have a wide selection of consoles. I don't own a Wii but as of this date nothing has really sold me on it. If a game came a long that I really wanted to have, I might pick up a Wii but I would not sell the other consoles.

That's why I don't understand how people can be such fanboys over one console. Sure you can prefer one console over another heavily, and not everybody can afford multiple consoles, but there are good games/experiences on each console or PC that you can't get on the other.

You really should give Alan Wake a try. It's not perfect, but it is a great experience.
