There was no reason for Chapter 3 to be that long. I enjoyed it especially the 2D platforming parts but it overstayed its welcome. Chapter 4 so far seems pretty cool and the Executioner scenes remind me of the Beserker ones in the first Gears of War.

Picked it up today for $40 new. The game so far is pretty interesting and I'm only the in the second chapter. I kind of wish I was a little more in tune with the world because sometimes it feels like I'm just exploring this empty world and disconnected from the main story. I'll continue to play it though because I love games like this. I booted up the original Alice and that game might be a bit tough to play through. It hasn't aged well but it fits in my style of games I love like Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, etc.

Looking forward to seeing Combat Evolved remastered, though.

Why would it make you lose hope? A good amount of Bungie and other top studios are now working for 343 industries. They have the same publisher (Microsoft) and finally Master Chief is back. That's the main reason why everyone loved Halo and for the past 3 games they have made he has been absent. I actually have high hopes for this game and could see it being one of the best Halos to date.

Response to: Which Console got you into gaming? Posted June 27th, 2011 in Video Games

I got into gaming when I was in Kindergarten. Each month we were given a small magazine of some sort that listed a bunch of books, educational games and some other things. If we wanted we a book or a game we just had to have our parents write out a check and the school would order it for us.

Anyway the first game I ordered was "Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside" and I pretty much fell in love. It is by Humongous Entertainment and I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with them. They did the Freddy games, Putt Putt, Buzzy the Knowledge Bug, etc. Anyway it is a point and click adventure games that is very similar to the early Lucas Arts games. Of course it is for small children and is fairly easy but the humor and detail is top notch for a children's game. I ended up buying the whole original series and a couple of spin offs and still have them in a dusty box today.

After that I moved on to the original PlayStation and played through all the original Tomb Raider games, Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu, Star Wars, etc. That was enough to place the foundation of my gaming interest and then when I played Halo for the original Xbox it was solidified. I began playing anything and everything and just researching the history of gaming, what was what and just wanted to learn everything I could. I purchased a Genesis, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, etc. over a period of a few years and really tried to broaden my horizons. This continued on into current day and I still try to keep up with everything gaming. Even if the game doesn't interest me at first I keep an eye out and try to at least be well rounded. I like finding hidden gems and I really enjoy sitting down and playing a new game and being sucked into a new world.

None of you are going to read all this but It brought me back to some good times :)

Response to: Kinect is Revolutionary Posted June 23rd, 2011 in Video Games

Kinect has been pretty fun to watch people hack and create new uses for it. Shortly after Kinect released people starting finding new ways they could use it. There have been tons of really cool inventions and you can view a lot of them here: http://www.kinecthacks.com/

Microsoft caught onto this and recently announced "Kinect Fun Labs" which was inspired by all the hacks they were seeing. As we move forward more hacks will be put up onto Xbox LIVE. Obviously the more popular ones will be uploaded first.

Microsoft also just released SDK Beta for Kinect on PC so we should really see some really awesome hacks soon. To top it off they are creating a new form of Ad with Kinect called "NuAds" which while I'm not a fan of advertisement at all, if it is going to be there it can at least be more entertaining. There are already advertisements on XBL and they more than often pertain to video game material so I'm kind of indifferent to it.

Response to: Ryan Dunn is dead. Posted June 22nd, 2011 in General

Keep in mind he killed himself.

He probably used his success and money to hire good lawyers so he could continue to keep a drivers license. The fact that his citations were spread out over different countries, states, etc, probably helped prevent him from losing his license. The fact is he could have eventually killed someone, and now he can't. This was totally his fault, so I really don't see why anyone should feel bad. I'm sure he wouldn't care if people were angry at him for drinking and driving.

Yeah he killed himself but the other guy in the car essentially did too by getting into the vehicle with him. Obviously what he did was wrong, nobody is disputing that. Most of the rest of what you wrote was here say. Yes he could have killed somebody eventually but there are better ways to stopping him from doing that than death. We're going in circles now repeating the same things.

To wrap things up:
-He shouldn't have been driving the first place
-What he did was beyond stupid and ended in two deaths
-He no longer runs the risk of hurting anyone by definition, but this could have been prevented in less dramatic ways
-I feel bad that it had to come to this (death) before he seriously learned his lesson another way.

Hate the sin, love the sinner. A fellow human being lost his way in life and now two human lives are gone. Human life is the most valuable thing on Earth. That's why people should be saddened. Not because it is a movie/T.V. actor.

He could have killed one of your friends, and now your friends are safe from him, because if he didn't crash he would still be out on those roads.

Oh no doubt his family and loved ones have a skewed reaction to this whole thing. He may have been a great guy but he was also an idiot for what he did. If my kid died in a drunk driving accident and killed someone in the car as well I honestly don't know how I would react though. That's such a rush of mixed emotions. I doubt many families would come out and say there son was an idiot right off the bat.

Nice people can make dumb decisions, really dumb decisions. The fact of the matter is with 23 driving citations in six countries since the late 1990s he shouldn't have been allowed to drive or have access to a car. In fact, he should have probably done some time at some point. Again I'm not excusing his actions, I'm glad nobody else outside of the vehicle got hurt, I'm extremely glad my family or friends didn't get hurt but I'm saddened that it had to end this way. There are much better solutions and lessons than death.

I know where it happened, I have friends that go to school there. I'm really glad that he didn't hit anybody. The guy should have been locked away a long time ago and shouldn't have been allowed to drive. That's the point I'm trying to get across. It's a shame in this society that we see people have repeated problems with certain things and substances yet we look the other way until it's too late. Yes he will no longer run the risk of hurting anyone, but it could have all been avoided without a death and that's what I'm trying to stress. I don't like to glorify the death, rather I see it as a shame that it had to end this way.

We just view the situation differently I guess

Response to: Ryan Dunn is dead. Posted June 22nd, 2011 in General

Yeah Wade is correct in saying that driving intoxicated is wrong, seriously speeding is stupid and the whole situation was idiotic and unfortunate. However, he branches off and takes it into the wrong direction.

Wade posted the following on his Facebook status.
"Good riddance Ryan Dunn! I'm glad you crashed and burned before your drunk self drove 130MPH into some innocent driver that was driving legally. Anyone who thinks Ryan Dunn was a good guy is a Jackass indeed."

He backs this up by saying the Ryan was stupid in the situation (correct). He should have not been driving because he was intoxicated and speeding (correct) and that he was a serious harm to society in that state and thank God he didn't hit anyone else (correct).

But the problem is that Wade adds a personal twist to it. Saying "I'm glad you crashed and burned" is totally uncalled for. How about you say "Wish you wouldn't have gotten in the car and this could have ended in a completely different manner". Or "I wish he would have been pulled over, arrested and locked up so he can seriously learn his lesson". Being happy over someone seriously not thinking, and dying as a result is pretty immature.

Good people can make terribly bad decisions and really fuck up. While his actions are inexcusable I don't think you should be praising his death. Nor do I think you're excuse "He can't hurt anybody anymore" really works. There are much better solutions to stopping people from hurting other than death.

And to answer your question Wade, yes you can hate drunk drivers without being called a dick. It's called being level headed.

It most likely will not. The game is not being developed by Notch's team. It is another team that has "developed several other Xbox 360 titles". Notch has also mentioned that the game will not be a straight port. To top that off the PC version is slated for Fall 2011 where as the Xbox 360 version is due out Winter 2011. If anything I really only see this putting more money into the pocket of the creator and in the long run will probably fund more Minecraft things or new IPs.

And really, your argument is that controls for minecraft will be simpler? Are you fucking shitting me? It's impossible for minecraft to be any more simple unless trees start punching themselves when you generate a world.

I should probably rephrase that. Lets be honest here. It is easier for the average Joe to go out to their local electronics store, pick up a copy of Minecraft for the Xbox 360, pop it into their console and start playing with a controller. While it is a simple process to play Minecraft on the PC for you and I, a lot of people wouldn't even know where to start on PC. It's a shame I know but that is the truth despite how simple it really is.

Response to: Minecraft For Xbox! Posted June 12th, 2011 in Video Games

You see arguments like this are pointless and I just had to jump in. No pun intended.

Whenever a game crosses platforms the main worry is that the game will run the risk of being inferior all together because you have to find some medium for it on all platforms. This is not the case for Minecraft on the Xbox 360.

For the people that play it on P.C. and prefer a mouse and keyboard, you will be able to keep doing so. Your gameplay will not be hindered, the graphics and performance will not change over night and your mods will not all of a sudden disappear. Keep playing the game how you like and prefer.

As for the people that will buy it for the Xbox 360, let them. If they prefer the simplicity of a controller so what? It may be inferior in terms of control but there are tons of things in life where there is a superior alternative method but people choose the easier, more simplified and user friendly way of doing so. Take the whole manual V.S. automatic vehicle debate. Manual offers much more control and power compared to an automatic but the majority of people in the U.S. drive automatic vehicles. The fact that more people are driving a automatic vehicles has little to no effect on the people driving a manual.

I personally drive a stick shift and prefer it but have nothing against drivers that drive automatic. If they want to drive too, I have no problem with that. I know that I have more control and I can save a good amount of fuel by doing so. I don't sit in traffic, roll down my window and yell at the driver next to me about how the way I go about driving is so much better and that they are an idiot for doing so. It's not for everybody.

So honestly, shush. Enjoy your version of the game on the respective platform and control method. And just be happy that more people are going to get to enjoy a great game like Minecraft.

I suppose it is cool but it seems too late. It's awesome to finally have games that were PC/360/PS3 exclusive for so long on Nintendo. The only problem is that this console launches in 2012 and by then the Xbox 360 will have been out for 7 years. The on par or slightly above graphics aren't really a game seller for me. It will be nice to see a HD Zelda game though.

As for the cool things you can do with the controller, I suppose the ideas are almost limitless like Kinect. However it seems more gimmicky (to me at least) than something I would realistically use playing a game. I can only imagine the really cool things you can do that will blow your mind when you see them presented, but won't really care about them when you just want to play a game.

I have to say this is the most disappointing E3 in a long time. All conferences strayed away from games and focused on hardware. I suppose you have to do that when launching a new hardware but still it is a bit of a bummer.

The best announcements of E3 in my opinion:

Halo 4 - Master Chief is finally back. Microsoft actually LISTENS to what Halo fans want.
NGP - $250 price is perfect. A massively better deal than 3DS and I don't even really like handhelds.

There was stuff shown that I'm really excited about but I already knew about it.

I'm not a huge Nintendo gamer but I always love how Nintendo is in it for the games, they are the only company that is. They have had a couple of years where they lost the magic but they are still in the years of their prime. Iwata, Miyamota and Reggie are the Nintendo dream team. Microsoft had this with the original Xbox and the launch of the Xbox 360 with J Allard, Peter Moore and Robbie Bach.

Essentially all the exclusive games shown this year were shown last year. Gears of War 3, Forza Motorsport 4, Halo, Dance Central, Kinect Sports, Xbox LIVE Hub, etc.

First off, what a nice thread ;) This time of year is always pretty exciting for gamers and I think there are more games than ever since I started watching E3 that I am looking forward to hearing about. I'm only going to list games that I know exist other wise it's just a ridiculous dream team list that gets out of hand.

Here are the games I'm looking forward to in no particular order:

BioShock Infinite
Batman: Arkham City
Gears of War 3
Uncharted 3
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Alice: Madness Returns
Rayman Origins
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

I'm also looking forward to the next installment of Alan Wake which was confirmed to be at E3 by Remedy but stated that it isn't Alan Wake 2 and is also not DLC. I hope it's not just some Kinect support or something a long those lines but I eagerly await. Beyond Good and Evil 2 which is confirmed to be under development is a game I really would wish to see but know won't be there. The same can be said for Metal Gear: Rising which is confirmed not to be at E3.

Of course most of the time the best part of E3 is the surprises. I can't wait to see what each company has up their sleeves. Especially Nintendo and Microsoft. I'm really interested in seeing if this "Project Cafe" turns out to be something I'd be interested in. I hope I didn't forget any retail games I'm looking forward to.

Response to: "Used games are worse than piracy" Posted May 19th, 2011 in Video Games

After reading the article it seems they are comparing not piracy V.S. used games as a whole, but pirated games on the P.C. to used game sales on the Xbox 360.

Lets take the quote for what it is "Piracy these days on PC is probably less problematic than secondhand sales on the Xbox".

This, in its bare form, I would agree with. I don't have any exact figures but I do not have a hard time seeing that there would be way more used Xbox 360 games sales than there are pirated copies of a P.C. game. In this case, the game is Fable III. I can easily see more people buying a used copy of Fable III than torrenting the game on the P.C. or something along those lines.

Now if you're comparing Used game sales V.S. Pirating as a whole, I would probably disagree. This is a bit of a gray area depending on how you look at it. In theory, if pirating were to be easy enough for the average Joe to get away with and perform, it would be far worse than used game sales. With used game sales at least one person has purchased the game and will most likely purchase some digital content along with it at some point in time, for the most part. A pirate however (haha), would most likely download the game illegally and then also proceed to download the digital content illegally as well. They have now put absolutely no money into the pockets of the developers at all.

Having said that, pirating video games is not nearly as mainstream as buying used games is and thus, it is a bigger issue. Especially among console games. So I think, what the person is trying to say is that depending how you look at it used game sales can be just as threatening to developers as piracy can be.

I hope that all made sense to you. It was pretty poorly and hastily written.
