You can buy them on Amazon pretty cheaply, depending on what color/size you want. And they come in a bunch of colors. The company also makes a pointed-toe, stiletto-heel boot in most of the same colors, as well as a variety of other shoes and boots that are more costume-like. I have a pair of the stiletto boots in neon green ;)
My Sinestro Corps costume and the white bodysuit for the Barbarella costume arrived in the mail today.
Quick snap:
I'm 5'7", so those will make me pretty tall, but I wasn't able to find anything with less of a heel in silver. I didn't want to have to paint the boots. In the original costume they have shorter heels than this, but only a little.
I bought two pairs of the exact same boot, one in silver and one in gold, for my two costumes this year. I really wanted flats for the other costume, but the only remotely decent pair were Paris Hilton brand and they didn't have my size anyway, plus they were much more expensive. These are cheap Halloween go-go costume boots, basically. I think my sister has a bright yellow pair from when she and her friends went as the Fantanas.
I finished my Barbarella boots. The ones on the original costume are only thigh high, but I couldn't find the right boots to do it that way, so I went for knee highs.
The cuffs are removable, for convenience's sake.
Well, to be honest, I hate coffee, so I consider that to be a waste of good whiskey.
I made caramelized garlic with Irish whiskey last night, and that's more awesome than any possible coffee.
So portly members of the Anglican clergy really are all desperately in love with Sean Bean?
Most of Arlington is good - Clarendon, Ballston, and Falls Church are all technically part of Arlington, but you'll see them listed under the name of the smaller region a lot, and they are all good areas to live in for various reasons. Dupont is actually a really nice neighborhood to live in - lots of nice older houses, good restaurants, shopping, etc. - but it's also a huge gay hotspot, so if you move there be prepared for people to assume you're gay. :)
Basically you want to avoid anything near the Anacostia River.
Weirdly enough, one way to see how good a neighborhood in DC is to see how many Starbucks there are. Starbucks does a LOT of research into crime rates and socioeconomic factors before they open a shop. If there are zero Starbucks in walking distance, it is probably not a safe neighborhood. I know it sounds strange, but it's true.

1 bed apts, studios, that sort of thing.
Even a website to start looking would be helpful.
I need an apartment for the upcoming school year (Georgetown bound).
Yeah, good fucking luck. If it's cheap enough for you to afford it without roommates, it's in a neighborhood where you WILL get carjacked, mugged, or stabbed (or possibly stabbed while being mugged and carjacked). Your best bet is probably to do campus housing, or find an apartment in Virginia or Maryland and commute. The Craigslist advice isn't all bad, but I'd use it for finding a roommate rather than trying to find an apartment - lots of scams in this area.

No, it's an earlier asshole ex. I have a whole collection of them, unfortunately.
I've got an uncle who found out he has cancer this week, but we have no idea about the stages or anything, and I'm not about to start complaining when so many other people in here have lost family/friends this week.
Cancer is pretty scary, even when it's just a bad mole. Hopefully he'll get good news!
I saw a photo on Failbooking and I think it might be one of my ex-boyfriends. The face is blurred, so I can't confirm, but I laughed my ass off anyway.
Oh, Conan, I love you and your crazy hobo beard.
Hurray Free Comic Book Day!
Free Comic Book Day is tomorrow. If anyone is in the DC metro area, we will be doing Batman, Catwoman, and Nightwing at Laughing Ogre Comics in Fairfax, VA from 12-3. Come see us! :)
I bought the wig from a website called Amphigory - it's called the "Farah" - for $34.
It's this, but blonde:

It won't be directly on my skin, thankfully.
It's for this:
God, Proteas, hurry up and read your PMs and respond to my question about chain mail panties!

Apparently that's exactly what drives the rivalry.
Well, the reason the zoo is best in summer is because a lot of the animals are more active and a lot of displays that are closed during mating seasons and such reopen. And in this part of the country it's not so much like a hair dryer as being smacked in the face with a hot, wet towel - massive humidity.

The zoo is at its best in the middle of summer, but unfortunately it's so fucking hot that you can barely make it from one end of it to the other. In spring they close a lot of exhibits because of breeding seasons and such, and this year in particular they're upgrading a lot of habitats. If you had been there this time last year I think you would have been more impressed.
I have tickets for Fiddler on the Roof tonight, with Harvey Fierstein as Tevya. :D
Feel free, I won't pay any attention.
I enjoy Four Roses bourbon, but it is very difficult to get in my state. I generally find bourbon too sweet, Scotch too resiny, and Irish perfectly balanced.
Except Kilbeggan. Fuck that shit. I bought a bottle for my St. Pat's party and my guests swilled down my good stuff and left me nothing but the Kilbeggan. Ugh.

Old Scotch tastes like paint thinner. The older it is, the more it tastes like paint thinner.
Scotch and bourbon are the pussy whiskeys. Gots me a bottle of Bushmill's Black Bush...nothing finer.

I'm not really much of a vodka drinker, and I've pretty much only had your usual standbys. I haven't even tried the Crystal Head yet, actually.
Not quite my cup of tea, as it were, but... sounds interesting.
Our group of friends has a shot contest every year, and a big part of it is originality and uniqueness. Last year the winning drink looked like a shot of jizz, but it tasted fantastic.
The only problem with the shot contest is that there are usually between six and ten entries, and the tasting moves at a pretty quick pace. I started last year's contest with three drinks already in me, and there were seven shot entries. I don't think I've ever been drunker.

We paid 50 USD for it, and our friend who is actually into vodka says it's pretty damn good. It's totally additive-free, and he says the flavor is extremely clean. My husband is infusing a small amount of it with fresh banana right now, with an eye toward making a shot that tastes like one of those wonderful frozen chocolate-covered bananas you get at the state fair.
And yeah, you can't get it in Ontario because it's evil or something.
Straight. Some of them drank it room temperature, others on ice. All agreed it was delicious. It was opened as the party was wrapping up, though, and I never drink at the end of a party - I sleep like shit if I drink too close to bedtime.

They carry Firefly brand Vodka, which is flavored like Sweet Tea. They had original, Mint, Lemon, and a few others. I almost bought myself a bottle, but I wasn't in their for me... I went in there for a bottle of red wine for my mother, and I bought a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 (a.k.a.; bum wine) for my dad as a joke.
Someone bought us a bottle of Firefly, and I didn't get to taste a drop of it. My party guests thought it was fantastic, though.
We found this at our local liquor store and had to have it. It's Crystal Head vodka. Dan Aykroyd is behind its production.
