Topic: Online Debating is Terrible

Posted: 11/25/09 05:12 AM

Forum: General

Honestly, I hate debating online, especially via forums. Why? Because the sense of anonymity and the lack of expressions and passion into text does not affect the debaters. There's no actual pride anybody loses by pulling illogical bullshit out of their arse.

I hate how many people can jump on a forum and when they get on their keyboard, they can debate and rant like there's no tomorrow, but face-to-face, they're not prepared to speak up at all.

Most people do not think before they speak on the internet. This results in stupid, illogical refutes which does not affect the reputation of the speaker, due to anonymity and the lack of instantanious response from humans in the vicinity of the debate.

Most people that debate vigorously on forums and on IM programs would be too scared to speak up face-to-face. And that is what is extremely annoying because most people that debate vigorously online do not think things through before they reply, and then end up posting illogical refutes that just make the opponent either waste his time, or stop debating because he knows his opponent is just trying to get the last word in.

Therefore, I come to the conclusion that online debating sucks and if you really want to do a debate, do it face-to-face. And if you cannot do it face-to-face (if you are debating some guy at the other end of the world), do it webcam-to-webcam or microphone-to-microphone so you reply with more than just text and you can hear your opponent's refutes instead of just reading them.

To those of you intentionally offended i.e. people that debate vigorously on forums with text and always try to get the last word in, even if it is by posting rubbish, do not expect me to say no offense. I am giving all offense. Please, stop debating until you obtain the ability to say online what you would say in real life.

To those of you unintentionally offended or not offended at all i.e. people that debate vigorously on forums but also debate vigorously with the same passion face-to-face and would say the same things they would say face-to-face online, I respect you and encourage you to keep debating.

He didn't break through skin so it's nothing that grave. And there's a difference between saying "I would like Edward to BITE me any time" and saying "I'd like that hot guy to kiss me".

The biter was awesome because he did not gravely hurt anyone, but he showed his thoughts on how stupid it is that people say things such as, "I'd let Edward BITE me any time.

I agree with this guy. In Flames is a band that has grasped the metal and put melody into it and it still definitely qualifies as metal. I'm not into their old stuff, but their stuff from 2000 onwards is pretty damn awesome.

I laughed at this.

@ OP: Download
Avast! Antivirus if you are able to. Run a scan and remove all infections.

If that does not work, the easiest and quickest way is to reformat your computer. Make sure your drivers and OS discs are available, otherwise, you are screwed again. If you have an external harddrive, back up everything if possible. If you do not have an external, I strongly recommend buying one - they're not expensive.

Try muting or switching off the stereo mix volume. (I think thats what it was)

Hey guys!

Someone I know is having recording problems. When he records, it does not just record his microphone, but also what sound is playing on his computer. Usually the setting needs to be changed to record one or the other, but this is doing it to both and he wants to know how to just record one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not have some fun out of the crappy reviews?

It is quite long but on the Youtube it's longer because there's about a minute of crap after the song. It's around 4:00.

If I did a song collab, I would do Fort Minor - Right Now and have people stick to the lyrics while giving it a very urban/inner city kind of theme. Only thing is I'm not sure if I meet the requirements to host a collab.

You have a BA of 3.87 - you can easily start up a collab on NG. I'll check out the song later on.

RazorHawk's right, who gives a shit what some 13 year old who never has tried animation thinks.

Anyway, we did very well. Especially seeing that this is not a very popular song and many people don't like it.

For my next collab (which will be started in a while), I'm thinking of doing an inspirational ballad. I've done the pop/rock mainstream song, Have a Nice Day. I've done a reasonably heavy disturbing (well, the animations made it disturbing), Prayer.

I'm thinking of doing Iris by Goo Goo Dolls. What do you guys think?

And I'll say again, I won't be starting up a new one for a while.

My jokes on the spot in conversations and events are really lame. I want all of Newgrounds to show off their awesome and clever comments for any point in a conversation. If you know of any awesome come-backs to say at any comments in conversations, post it here.

I want to get all the awesome, cheesy, pissing-off comments I can get, and can hopefully build from there to improvise on the spot at any time in any conversation.

Show me your stuff, Newgrounds!

I'm glad you're all happy with Daily 3rd. At first I was thinking you would be dissappointed, but YoinK's right, we had some rough competition.

Congratulations, everyone! Maybe next time we will achieve something better and then we can get more success.

I know the wrong decisions I made that brought downsides to this collab but everyone else here achieved more than I could ask for. Thank you, everyone!

Seeing as this is over now, I will have a break before starting my next music video collab. Until then, I encourage you to participate in the Mini-Game Collab 2. A success for the future but going through the stage we used to be at where it could really use some help. I strongly encourage everyone to participate there.

And I also encourage you to join Holiday Collab, a collab recently revived and lead by a great Flasher, a participant of HAND and a supporter of Prayer.

I hope to work with you guys again! I will most probably be starting up another collab later on and, as you would expect, I will not make the mistakes I made with this one and bring more success to the hard-working animators and collaboraters of Newgrounds. You guys deserve the best NG can give.

Thank you, everyone!
