Honestly, I hate debating online, especially via forums. Why? Because the sense of anonymity and the lack of expressions and passion into text does not affect the debaters. There's no actual pride anybody loses by pulling illogical bullshit out of their arse.
I hate how many people can jump on a forum and when they get on their keyboard, they can debate and rant like there's no tomorrow, but face-to-face, they're not prepared to speak up at all.
Most people do not think before they speak on the internet. This results in stupid, illogical refutes which does not affect the reputation of the speaker, due to anonymity and the lack of instantanious response from humans in the vicinity of the debate.
Most people that debate vigorously on forums and on IM programs would be too scared to speak up face-to-face. And that is what is extremely annoying because most people that debate vigorously online do not think things through before they reply, and then end up posting illogical refutes that just make the opponent either waste his time, or stop debating because he knows his opponent is just trying to get the last word in.
Therefore, I come to the conclusion that online debating sucks and if you really want to do a debate, do it face-to-face. And if you cannot do it face-to-face (if you are debating some guy at the other end of the world), do it webcam-to-webcam or microphone-to-microphone so you reply with more than just text and you can hear your opponent's refutes instead of just reading them.
To those of you intentionally offended i.e. people that debate vigorously on forums with text and always try to get the last word in, even if it is by posting rubbish, do not expect me to say no offense. I am giving all offense. Please, stop debating until you obtain the ability to say online what you would say in real life.
To those of you unintentionally offended or not offended at all i.e. people that debate vigorously on forums but also debate vigorously with the same passion face-to-face and would say the same things they would say face-to-face online, I respect you and encourage you to keep debating.
