All right BWS tell you what since I seem to be the one who took most of the flame I'll talk to the others about repealing your ban, however I'd ask you to do me a favor read most of the posts (or some that would be a lot of posts to read) and get a feel for the type of humor we use at the DAG, we're usually pretty lighthearted amongst ourselves. The problem was more that what you were saying wasn't something we find funny there but rather pointlessly abusive.

I'd also like to think that since I might have something of a rep for being rather level headed amongst the DAG and trying to keep the peace your posts were considered somewhat more out of line than they'd usually be.

How's that sound for fair?

Actually this is a pretty touchy subject for certain members, and maybe one that does bear discussion.

Response to: Media bias? Posted December 19th, 2003 in Politics

One more time Veggie this thread isn't about the death penalty per se, you have your opinion I have mine, and I really don't care what your opinion on it is. I'm talking about how what's supposed to be an impartial venue of information is showing a blatant bias in it's reporting that's all. Debating the death penalty is pointless because people don't look at it rationaly on either side andI won't be dragged into a purposeless argument rather than a debate.

Response to: Media bias? Posted December 19th, 2003 in Politics

I've said this before but I'll say it again for the special people who don't listen to those of differing opinions. I believe in the death penalty, not for revenge to approach it as a form of revenge or even justice is an inherently flawed viewpoint. The death penalty should be used to remove from society those who have crossed the line to the point where they are less people and more rabid animals, the case that has sparked this debate in Minnesota is that of an admitted child molester and murderer. His death should not be viewed as a form of punishment or as justice but a necessary and hateful task, when a dog has rabies you don't lock it up for the rest of it's life, you take it out back and put it down.

And besides that wasn't the what I was writing about originallly I was commenting on the medias obvious bias in their reporting of the debate.

Response to: Strong and the Weak Posted December 19th, 2003 in Politics

I've been homeless and lived on welfare at one point in my life, and anyone who says they can't get out of it is full of shit, you can always find a job always. It may not be easy and it may suck but deal with part of life sucks you cope that's survival of the strong. The weak fail when they don't take an oppurtunity, being strong has nothing to do with wealth or social power it has to do with the will to succeed, like my sig says stand up and fight the fuck back or your not worth my time.

And Xion you said that your drug use doesn't make you weak, well I'd submit that it does if it prevents you from getting a job, you'd have one if you did't do drugs therefore they weaken you.

Media bias? Posted December 19th, 2003 in Politics

Recently in Minnesota the issue of the death penalty has been brought up by the governor. Most public opinion polls show that a majority (not overwhelming) support the death penalty. However in my recent perusal of local newspapers I have not been able to locate a single article showing the arguements of those who support the death penalty only quotes from people and organizations that oppose it. Here's a few links:
http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/4247865.html
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/politics/7417048.htm
I haven't been able to find any local media showing arguements from death penalty supporters. Say what you think about this bullshit media bias.

Response to: The good life Posted December 19th, 2003 in Politics

I'm going to go out on a limb and say happieness is irrelevant, duty and honor are the yardsticks by which I measure my life. Happieness isn't a constant thing it comes and goes with the changing of your fortunes. Being able to look in the morror see your reflection without any shame is what matters.

As it says in the Hagakure "A man who acts diferently when depressed is worthless"

Just a few thoughts Posted October 7th, 2003 in Politics

Order & Faith
Goverment and religion are necessary since they are what bind people together outside of family bonds. Without the unifying force of religions and goverments deveopment of human culture would cease and stagnate it is the coming together of people as a group that allows us to progress. The eradication of these forces would inevitably result in the end of all appreciable human development and culture because the information necessary for such developments would no longer be passed on.

Advancement as a culture
Humanity is a thousand times better off now than it ever has been in the past. We live longer, enjoy a decrease in deaths by disease, malnutrition and enviromental factors. (Yes I'm aware that this isn't necessarily true everywhere but that's a fairly persuasve arguement in favor of industrialization and the stabilization of geovernments in my mind.)

Well these are just a few of my thoughts during my hiatus from the boards feel free to comment as you will.

Response to: freedom and order Posted October 7th, 2003 in Politics

Heres an idea order and freedom aren't mutually exclusive. Just because a society or govermental system is well ordered that doesn't mean it need be repressive.

Response to: US and the UN Posted October 7th, 2003 in Politics

How about this no one is required to follow UN resolutions like the ones Iraq chose to ignore. We did what we had and chose to act on our own. If the security council chooses to kick us off so be it.

Response to: Treehuggers Posted July 26th, 2003 in Politics

Here's an idea recycling doesn't really help the planet it helps humans. We lack te power to wipe out life on earth, but we saure have the power to annhilate ourselves. Green Inc. and all of it's various subsidiaries make money off of the idea we can destroy life when in fact all we can do is wipe out ourselves.

Response to: Euthanasia Posted July 26th, 2003 in Politics

So far everyone has been agreeing here and patting themselves on the back for it so here's an idea, you life is a gift. I was given to you by you creator and deciding to end it is the spiritual equivalent of throwing it back and the spitting in the creators face, maybe there's more to it than just whethter you hurt or not, maybe you still have something that needs to be said to the world and choosing to end your life is selfish?

Response to: agree to disagree? Posted June 30th, 2003 in Politics

This also fails to take into account that culture and upbringing change from place to place, what one culture finds wrong another may believe is right. Since moral judgements alter with time and place then their can't be only two sides to an issue, there is as many sides as their is people involved.

Oh, and Karasz agreeing to disagree is no sign of weakness but rather a sign of wisdom and understanding.

Just to clarify, I meant that you would all kill your own clones, not that you would all gang up and kill mine!

I'd hunt down your clone and kill it, mainly just 'cause you put the idea in my head though.

Personally I'm sort of ambivalent on cloning, it wouldn't turn out exactly the same as the template it was grown from so it would just be it's own person and do whatever it wants just like anyone else and frankly as far as organ harvesting goes, yeah I'm all for it. Gee mister we'd like to save you're life but since the donor list is three years long looks like you're screwed versus here's a nice freshly grown liver. Seems pretty simple to me.
