Who's to say the curriculum is any better (in this circumstance, or any other)?

Food for thought.

True, the curriculum was written by someone (usually a group of people), so could be just as biased as the lessons. However: where does this road end? Do you just say it's all a conspiracy to be brainwashed with government ideologies? No (at least I hope not); you think for yourself on what you should accept as accurate and/or biased.

There's no source of information you can trust entirely besides doing your own experiments and observations. Since you can't really 'observe' most of what you're taught in schools, it's all a matter of learning which bits of the curriculum are worth remembering beyond the final exam and which were put there just to feed the school's ego and/or vested interests (in which case they should be forgotten as soon as they no longer have exam marks attached to them). Which isn't always easy, but it's worth trying to do at least.

Nah; 's cool. I think I have at least 5 of those types of reviews now. Maybe when I get like 20 or so I'll do something with them. Maybe.

Haven't found a review like that in a long time.

That one was just left on the TOTW, but most of my other ones are in obscure places (art portal, audio portal, deleted flashes etc.).

Oh yeah, about this:

Stolen, rated T. Probably fileswapped after it passed judgement, since it got daily second.

It was indeed fileswapped.... to the Frankie Foster hentai flash that got deleted a while ago. *FACEPALM!*

I'm officially lost for words over this frankie foster crap. It was 30 fucking seconds of utterly shit fap material, and so far it's been the focus of at least two butthurt threads, and now some /b/tard tries to steal it just to give the dumb kids their precious wankfest back? It's not even hard to find on the internet elsewhere anyway!

I swear, if there's one thing NG can do without, it's the moron kids who think NG is a hentai stash and nothing else. Forget the spammers and trolls, THESE are the people wrecking NG!
Think about it: without these dubmass emo skidmarks, there wouldn't be anyone to respond to most of the trolling in the flash portal anyway. Ergo: no morons = no trolls either. Two birds, one stone. Now, not all the people who use NG for jackoff material are this dumb, but (rule number 3 of life) there's always one (and usually several) ruining it for everyone else.

Posted: 11/21/09 10:44 PM

We've all seen them. Those TV ads that do one (or all) of three things:

1. Annoy you with retarded singing and/or music to the point of changing the channel for a minute or two, just to get it away from your brain.
2. Try to tell you that you somehow "need" some inane shite that the world would've been better off without inventing, making you want to slap whoever dreamt the ad up.
3. Continue to baffle you, after 20 times of watching it, with regards to what it's actually tryng to advertise.

I was wondering, if there was a 'room 101' for shit adverts, what would you put in it and why?

My vote goes to that Ford S-Max ad. I honestly had to make a determined effort to concentrate on watching it (after the 100th time of glazing over at it) just to guess what it was about. It relies on text to get its message across, but it puts the (very unassuming) text in the same frames as the irrelevant visual aids of the ad, making you look at the pictures and not the text. Seriously, the portugese version makes just as much of an impact on me here.

Discuss.

Isn't it annoying when you know something's been deleted before, but you can't find the eulogy for the original?

This one got mass-voted onto the top 50 a little while ago, and a thread was made complaining about the state of the top 50, so Wade deleted it. However, no link = flag at your own risk (which I'm not really expecting anyone to do, all things considered).

Man, we really need a eulogy search feature. :/

^^This. While I really hate the stupid fanboy one-line 'OMG KEWL' bullshit, there's a limit to how far you can go with being wordy like this. While there were some good points in there, they were effectively buried in a sea of near-irrelevant filler text. You could've used less than half of the space you did and still got the same point across.

Also, madness was never meant to have a plot (it was never even meant to be a series), so pointing out plot weaknesses and the blatancy of the mindless violence isn't exactly useful. Krinkels knows it all already.

As for the useless bombs... well, there's not much you can do besides ignore them (it's just an overly abused fanboy bawwing tool these days anyway).

There's one thing in particular which I think might end up screwing this over: Most forms of energy generation rely on technology that is neither difficult nor illegal to reproduce from home-made materials. People in rural areas without access to gas or electricity just make their own gas fermenters and generators (which are just petrol generators configured to run on the gas instead).

Why turn money in for energy when you can just make energy for free once you've got a few basic components?

For that matter, why pay for it at all? ;)

Pshhh. Childhood is overrated.

In my old school, the damn kids were doing that all the time (this was a good 5-6 years ago, mind you). If their parents / teachers / friends don't care (which, in my case, they obviously didn't), why should they?

I just wish they'd grow up in a manner that teaches them responsibility for adult actions as well as the actions themselves - something hardly any of them do until they're about 15.

That's actually pretty commonplace among big chemical / pharmaceutical companies. They play both sides of the field to get the customers that buy into whatever notion of lifestyle the adverts are selling, regardless of what their opinion is on which is better. If a person finds one ad style displeasing, and then sees the complete opposite in another brand's ads, they'll likely go for the latter instead. Creating this situation is a good way of making sure you'll always have someone buying your stuff regardless.

Same here. I don't think it's worth worrying about. If it was a case of someone getting into your account, they wouldn't just change the layout (giving away the fact that you'd been hacked) and leave it at that.

If you look, there's one extra userpage modding option on the comments; there's now a 'delete all by this user' button (or something like that). Probably as a response to comment spam on admin pages which Tom decided to give everyone.

Ergo: new userpage feature, and admins need to mess around with settings and such to implement new features, so stuff might get a little rearranged in the process. No biggie; just a new button or two.

Not at all - lots of the stuff that passes judgement would not necessarily have passed a few years ago. I think the problem is down to people who think that it's going to pass, so they vote 2-5 on it. Dickheads that vote 5 on a flash that's barely worth 2 should have something nasty happen to them in my opinion.

^^This. I was thinking of the old portal mods idea a little while ago, and it came to me that if you could have a team of mods who could see who voted what on which flash (coupled with the ability to vote-ban people), it would make a lot of lazy statwhores think about their actions here.

Don't know why we have audio mods and art mods while not having flash mods, but the idea must've been brought up before, so there must be a reason why it's not a feature (yet).

The main problem there is that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perhaps if we could convince more people to think a flash was going to be blammed, they would change their minds and their votes. Not that I'm encouraging people to vote to Blam stuff, more to vote for what it deserves.

Unfortunately, there's no real way of sending that message to everyone who doesn't realise / care. Reviews aren't for that, and mass-PMing people would just cause annoyance and little else (especially when you don't know who would benefit from such a PM).

Well, there's got to be strings attached, when you have sex, while snowboarding. Too hazardous, otherwise. It's bad enough, with the potential for frostbite.

GAH STUPID MENTAL PICTURES!! FUCK OFF OUT OF MY BRAIN ALREADY!!

I get why the saves list would go faster than the blams list (it's just plain easier to find save-worthy stuff), but there's bound to be a lot of redundancy in most, if not all, the lists you could make involving NG accounts while making no mention of sign-up dates or any signs of life from them.

By that theory, going to sleep is time travel. You don't remember most of the time between when you went to bed and when you wake up, so where's the difference?

All that would do is create the illusion of time travel. It would carry none of the benefits of real time travel and serve only to cause confusion and amnesia. Although memories CAN be comprehensively (albeit accidentally) erased from certain periods in a person's life, I highly doubt any victim of memory loss feels like a time traveller for it (more just baffled as to where the hell his / her life went).
