New designs for Aqua Life Posted June 20th, 2009 in Art

Hello all.... well if you've seen Aqua Life 7, you will know that it was a royal pain in my ass. I have come to the conclusion that I need to chage up the art to make it fresh in my mind again. I've included a pic with the old Steve and the new concept of Steve... some of the things I like about the new guy is the gradient coloring, the eyes being easier to animate... and the fact that the mouth is on the "inside" of the body (I'm better at those kind of mouths). Now I do realize that this will be the 2nd art change... but I believe that a)change is good, and eventually b)I'll find the best design. I invite any comments, good or bad as long as they relate to the new art. Thanks in advance.

The part that people can actually explain to you rather than you having to spend months or years perfecting your skill with in order to complement the innate talent you need to have is.

Building on this the key to it all is patience. Be willing to not only hone the skill, but then put the production time into something... and not crank out something in 1 hour and think it's the second coming of animation. I personally found the more you put into it the better it is... a good example: I have maybe practiced playing guitar for a total of 2 hours in my lifetime... ergo I suck... the same applies to animation.

if u want to just make a drawing in flash, it should have more detail.
animations and movies usually have lower qualities since its harder to manipulate movement.

Okay... not quite sure what you mean, this is not just a drawing... this is the art for animation

Aqua Life #7 - New Art Posted August 14th, 2007 in Art

Hello all... In the very brief spare time I've had since the last episode I've been working on ways to improve the series. So, the first natural thought would be to update the art (I still wasn't quite happy with it, and it's a bitch to animate). Here is the first release of the new look of Steve, hopefully you've seen Aqua Life and have an idea of what he looked like previously - if not it's in "Series". I would like HONEST opinions, try not to hold back because I am making a serious effort to improve here. Other comments are welcome, as long as it is relevant to the art in Aqua Life. Thanks.

I agree, 6 million dead verus ~3000. 9/11 is nothing like the holocaust.

But the real major difference is that 9/11 was 5 years ago, that makes it still too close in recent history... and the fact that nothing like this has happened to the US in the last 60 years. The real problem is that it's hard for non-US people to understand the shock and fear that they are still trying to shake. I personally got over it after 2 years, but I'm not american.

It hurts you more, when it's closer to home... and when you hurt you lash out more violently then someone who feels sympathy. And the wounds take longer to heal when you are the injured party, than the group that came to their aid.

At least you gave the last nod to Canada's invasion of the US in 1812 sparked off by president Madison. Without that we wouldn't have our great Laura Secord Chocolate stores...

The US is going to hold 9/11 important to them for as long as something in the today's news keeps them thinkning about it. As long as the US is in Iraq, or NATO is in Afganistan, 9/11 will have a strong meaning, because at least to them, that is the reason they are there. I'm not saying it's the right, real or just reason... but the terrorist attacks in NY & Washington woke the sleeping giant yet again.

Look back in time to the bombing in Pearl Harbour. Now obviously none of us were around at that time, but I'm pretty sure that as long as the US was at war with Japan, they solemly celebrated that day every year... then after the war it slowly drifted into the past, and now is thought of on major anniversaries... 50th, 60th etc. 9/11 will probably be the same.

Response to: Dawson College Shooting! Posted September 14th, 2006 in General

Holy shit! This is really going back. I went to Rosemere High back in 93, even then the place was designed to make you into a twisted freak. I mean back then (13 years ago) the teachers didn't give a fuck, treated you like shit and just kept moving you on and didn't care about you or your future... and constantly complained about lack of funding. It's been a good long time since I lived in La Belle Province, but it always hits home when I hear something like this. Actually I have friends that go to Dawson, from what I know they're alright.

I hope that the rest of the injured pull through and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

Response to: Total Rage. Posted August 29th, 2006 in Game Development

Yeah that used to happen, but because I had a truck load of Spyware and the like festering in my computer. I just basically adopeded a good policy of saving every 5 minutes wether I've done anything at all or not. Just get into the habit of CTRL-S every once in a while (but often)... however if the computer is chewing up the save files, yeah... that's bad.

I've also noticed you can't change the brush colors while working on a symbol and while something is selected... probably just a bug.

Yeah... tough break dude.

What is you guys' favorite method of animating arms, legs and such? I personally can't find a decent way to do it, that's why I try and stay away from it completly! But you do have a few options here.

1. Complete Redraw (Redraw arms, hands, legs as needed)
2. Animate at joints
3. Draw several arms/legs and swap symbols
4. Speed lines
5. Other

Love to hear some different opinions on this.

Response to: Lens Reflection question Posted July 15th, 2005 in Game Development

The first problem is that the lens flare in Photoshop needs something to be rendered on. You can't just create a file with a lens flare by itself. You could take the hideous amount of time to cut it out from the background, but then once it's imported into flash it'll be all pixely and crappy. I've tried. You're better off trying to create one in flash using sofened edge circles for the glow, and other colored circles with a low alpha for the reflections.

You could download a shareware audio program like Goldwave and then just open it and save it as an WAV.... that's what I do.

Who would you vote for? Posted May 18th, 2005 in Politics

If the Liberals do lose the confidance vote tomorrow... and we do have a June election to deal with (no matter how stupid that is)... who would you vote for?

I do understand that you have your right to a confidential federal vote, and if you want to keep that choice to yourself fine... in that case just say who you will NOT vote for... or the Canadian classic, who you plan to punish with your vote.

Response to: Canadian Politics: Stronach Posted May 18th, 2005 in Politics

I think she's just trying to be ambitious. Personally I'm not very big on the idea of an election. That rollercoaster happened not too long ago and has reduced the government to shouting matches, and the closing down early bullshit... instead of getting something done. She did what I guess she believes will extend her political career... with all the talk of "if there is an election" too many people I've spoken with have voiced that they will vote to punish the PCs.

That in itself is strange cause I live in conservative country, and these people are pretty sick of their "We want to topple the Government" crap... but do nothing constructive in parliament and promise nothing usefull if they did get into government. She is a traitor to the PCs... but may have made a smart career move to keep her voice heard.

Response to: What's a good, cheap microphone? Posted February 21st, 2005 in Game Development

For the best quality for the least price, I picked a basic Dynamic "Karaoke" Microphone from Radio Shack. About $20, however you get the best range and quality at that price level. And I had less problems recording with it than the Labtec, or Built-In mics.

The next best model jumps to like $50 which you don't need, unless you have a recording booth cause then the extra dynamic range and sensitivity is wasted with background noise.

Need Help combining work... Posted February 21st, 2005 in Game Development

Okay, so I got bored working on my project and decided to do up a new intro/preloader/bumper to put on to the beginning of my future things in a seperate FLA file.

Now my problem is how do I take that work (which is 3 scenes, about 20 layers and about 400 frames long) and add that onto a different flash project which is about halfway done... and keep all the animation, sound etc. intact? I've tried the "Import SWF" but it screws up the movie clips.

Is there a way to import... or is it just sour grapes for me?

Thanks muchly!

Response to: Urgent Sound Problem!! Rewards!!! Posted February 21st, 2005 in Game Development

In the first frame of Scene 6 add this actionscript:
stopAllSounds();

This is assuming that you want all the sounds to stop.
