Though I agree it's stolen, Jawdyn, Lulz.net is an image board. That's like saying the flash cartoons from Zone.com were stolen from 4chan. xD No offense to you, though. I'm just glad you believe it's a stolen toon.

Buyt you do have a point there. Perhaps that was where he went to save the flash.

Yes, it is. I... sort of indulge in Furry activity. And I know for certain that's not Marvin Redtail who submitted it. :(

There are like thousands of reviews there. You're going to need to be specific. Sometimes, I accidentally leave out the reviewer's name because I'm careless, but I make sure that I get the name out if it has a huge list. Otherwise, it doesn't matter if you sort through one or two pages...
But I can't possibly sift through thousands of posts in one night.

Why not rely on their friends for advice then? Or ask for help/an opinion from another flash artist, one more tactfully skilled, and then, after forging their flash, submit it? These ideas certainly must come to some of them, right?
Of course they ask their friends for help, but their friends are likely to either A. not have a clue when it comes to flash or B. take the artist's feelings into consideration and sugar-coat their opinion.

As for asking for help from another flash artist, it does occur to them sometimes, but many times they can't get into contact with a good flash artist because, well, the artist is just damned busy. And even when they do get into contact with another flash artist, most of the time the advice they get will either be too vague to put to use or it will force the artist to deviate from what he wants his flash to do, thus giving him a sense of hollowness.

The reason a flash artist would ask his audience for help is because, well, they know what they want to see. He takes all the critiques, finds the most common problems, fixes them up, and re-submits with these problems taken care of. It helps the artist improve his skills, and it lets the audience know that they helped a budding artist.

It's a win-win scenario.

I see your point. Though, I just wish other flamers could see that. With those that come to aid the artist comes the JERKS. xD They basically say "OMG THIS SIHT IS 4 f@gs" and stuff like that and mock the creator for their work rather than aid them. It's that sort of thing that makes me upset. I could care less if the author continues to submit bad flash cartoons, it's their choice. It's the level of spam and flaming that grows worse with it.
Then again, I guess we cannot stop those who scream BLAM like bloody murder. There's still so much I want to learn, but for the mean time I'm satisfied with these responses. Thank you all for answering my question.

... That was.. uhm... I think that wasn't the question... I think? I can't understand your post, but the thing is:
I'm talking about flashes that ARE bad. Not the sort where someone pulls a prank, puts up a great flash with a bad description, and watches it come through the portal and ruin some blam points, but bad flashes all in all.

Questioning

Topic: An Anomaly

Posted: 05/27/08 07:15 PM

This question has probably been asked many times, most definitely has been looked down upon for its repetitiveness before, and has already died for many, but since I've only just recently become more active on Newgrounds, a question has burned brightly in my mind.

A flash artist who holds little confidence, if any at all, in his work, submits it to Newgrounds. He will excuse himself by saying "It's not finished," or "I suck I know," or "It took me forever to make this so don't blam it," or any assortment you may think of. But why?
Why do people prematurely submit their flashes, or submit them at all if they see it and know it's bad? Have they not seen others become blammed? Have they not seen the submissions that have succeeded? And if so, why have they not offered their full effort behind their artistic skill?

I'm thoroughly disappointed in seeing it all happen, but my biggest question is: WHY does it happen?

Good find, but those reviews are from 2001. :/ Reviews that old wont be considered.

Ah... Sorry, my eyes played a trick on me. I thought it said 2007. :/ Still, there's an entry from 2005, I at least know that entries from 2005 to now still count. At least that will work.

I think you have realize that the phrase "I think it sucks", is another form of "I didn't like it" and if the the word "sucks" is used in a abusive context as Malachy describes, then it would considered abusive. What we're generally looking for (in terms of flagging) are reviews that stand out as clear-cut abusive, reviews that needs to be brought to the attention of the review moderators.

Thank you for clearing that up with me. Goodness, I feel foolish now. Sorry for the awkward representation of the reviews, then. :< I hope I'll do better.

Leaving the same copy/pasted message: link spamming, chain letters
one word negative reviews: "gay" or "sucks" as the only thing in the review body.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain all this. Its good hearing it froma mod. I knew attacking the author was a given, and linking to outside sites and crap like that is a big no-no, too, but I wasn't 100% sure about the "this is crap" kinda one-liner reviews, good to know that for sure now, thanks. :)

Be more picky about the reviews you flag I guess. Maybe your idea of abusive is different from a mod's.
That's what I've done. When I got my whistle demoted, I thought about it for a while and I WAS getting a little cocky. Maybe I flagged a few borderline reviews that wern't really abusive and it bit me in the ass. Hopefully being more selective will help.

Thanks again for taking the time to help us out.

I'm just following what I read. I'm not telling you you're wrong, I'm just confused. I've read over the rules about abusive reviews, so I thought I had a good grasp on it. I'll continue to submit to this board though, I've been finding some good examples of the sort of thing we want out of the Newgrounds portals.

Topic: Some moms need to grow up

Posted: 05/18/08 10:12 PM

Being a little more serious here...

Oh, who do I kid? The substance I'm about to provide will leave me mocked for a few days, but I suppose there are a lot of moms out there like this.

Though my mom does act like an 'adult,' there are random points in time when she starts to... Well, the only term I can find that would be accurate enough for this description is: SPAZZING OUT.

She'll use adorable, sing-song tones, 'tickle torture' the family members around, wrestle with the dog, watch cartoons, and become a total comic book nerd when need be. (Though I have to say she's an even bigger movie nerd, Star Wars to be precise. :O)

My father isn't exactly matured himself. More than 50 and yet he has more comic books than I have files on my computer. Believe me, that's very hard to overcome, with the near insurmountable number of files I have in every folder I posess. Mostly filled with cartoons and sprites, but you get the idea.

The thing is, they're parents. You can't stop them from acting how they want. If you do, chances are they'll get angry and make you miserable, and we all know misery is not the best medicine. :)
