Anyone remember what that thing was called? It was like a few interactive scenes which would modify the music... I can't remember the name and its not on the front page anymore.

In the long run while you're still making your crappy Game Maker games with awful graphics and mediocre gameplay, those amateurs will either have given up on a language like C++ or be making amazing 3D worlds with nice graphics, procedurally generated worlds, and all kinds of other cool stuff.
Programming books are a waste of money, most of them are ripoffs.
2d vector = vector full of vectors.
OMG ITS IN VB HOLY SHIT ITS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME!

What are these adds you speak of? Are you some kind of 1337 haxxor? You can get rid of Ads and that makes a totally 1337 haxxor? Do you use Sp0rkeh to aimbot in CS too?
Programming console programs is a much easier way of teaching you the basic C++ concepts like functions, classes, structs, etc. To make apps with the WinAPI, its quite a bit differant, and it'll be very frustrating to you if you attempt to skip to it. If you can find some tutorials that will teach you the basic concepts along with windows programming, then by all means, use them. The reason most books teach you with console apps though, is that it allows a way to provide immediate output very quickly (the IOSTREAM). Now thats not to say that the other stream taught to you via a C++ book may be useless. The FSTREAM you'll find useful in win32 apps as well.
Excellent. Time to make one without all those damn Ads.
Alienware makes gaming machines, made to play games, not to host them. I suppose, however, they might make a decent server, if you have the bandwidth to spare.

Congratulations, you are part of an annoying invasion of children on the web who want to clone a shitty game.

I don't know about you, but i'm seeing a trend in all of these posts, and your post follows it as well. There are millions of posts just like yours littering programming forums everywhere.
Have a function that returns the address of persons.
People who can program have their own ideas of the best game ever, why the hell would they make your game if you can't even write a post with some details?
Tom, I would recommend posting on http://www.gamedev.net/. It would be such a great job to have, if I weren't still in highschool, i'd apply as soon as possible. With 4 years of C++ under my belt and not too much experience creating games though, I wouldn't be eligible anyway. Good luck finding a new programmer Tom.
I cant upload anything, FileFront is still down for maintenance...

Well yes, obviously, but just because you know how physics works does not mean it'll be easy to implement within the code. When you start programming, there are a lot of things you didn't think of, especially if you have never programmed before.
d3c0y2: Practice works, make sure to understand your code, a good way to learn is to a program thats a bit higher than your learning level, and figure out how it works, change things, look up functions that you dont understand either in the code or with google (programmers best friend)
Ravens: Knowing the math, and implementing the math are two veeeeeeeeery differant things, and it can be quite difficult at times. Sorry, but i'd rather have someone who has experience implementing such math into programming tell me about said math.
Other guy: Controls are WASD to move, and arrow keys to look around.
i'm so tired nothing matters right now.
I really do hate to post a thread like this that contributes in no way to newgrounds, I hate to bring personal matters onto a forum, sorry in advance mods for causing you grief over this thread.
You posted a message that made personal attacks on me without any knowledge at all what I am capable of. I'm sorry if you use this GameMaker program, and did not realize it would cause an outburst of irrationality.
"Spoken like a true 17 year old fuckhead.
Why would kids want to spend years learning C++ to make a game, when they can use some well designed middleware like Gamemaker, and have a cool little game finished in an afternoon that they could show off to their friends."
Games are not something to be made to be shown off to people. They are to be made to entertain people, give them a good time. Game development was not created to be an hour long job per game, it is a tedious and rewarding job that should take quite some time.
"The most C++ a kid could learn in an afternoon would be displaying "Hello World" on the screen, and maybe basic input. Where's the motivation there?"
I have been programming for four years now. I have created a template for 2D games which allows me to create them with minimal work in C++. Younger children seem to be all about instant gratification, they should not be greeted and given the idea that this is how game development works. As I have said, it is a time consuming hobby and job, it isn't meant to be done quick.
"As for your experience on the GameMaker forums, think about it dipshit. You went to a forum dedicated to helping people with gamemaker, then trolled on about how C++ was better. No matter how nice you were, it's a question they've been asked by every hack programmer who's got a month of C++ under their belt and wants to boost their l33t rep."
Insults like that do nothing but show your ignorance. I did not troll, I simply made one post asking why they used Game Maker compared to a language such as C++. Its funny how you try to group me as a programmer who only has a month of experience.
"I swear to god if rejects like this guy keep posting here, I'm just going to pack up my shit and move to the gamedev or microsoft forums."
You can find me a gamedev too. Calling me a reject is nothing but another worthless insult and does nothing but make you look less intelligent.

I'm curious, have you taken college courses in any math related subjects like trig, calc, and physics? Also would you happen to have aim?
At 2/3/06 11:46 AM, Ravens_Grin wrote: Do you want me to try and help out with this engine? I could most likely perform the physics portion of it.
Everything I create will be for learning most likely, i'm not too interested in getting any help on it, at least, no further than somebody explaining the underlying concepts of certain math related things, basically I want to program everything myself.
At 2/3/06 10:10 AM, Dezmerkt wrote: Great job. Hope you learned semthing while doing it.
ps. File down for matnence?
I guess filefront is down right now for maintenance, and yea, I learned quite a bit, how a 3d engine works, about matrix math, and a few other things.

Hehe, thanks. I'm going to attempt to make an adventure/action game based on the ninjai world eventually.
He offers the free version with a huge lack of features. Those features that aren't included in can most likely be found in a free C++ engine, or be created anyway, and be much more efficient.
Why can't these forums support editing posts?
Pic of said engine attached, or at this link:

Barebones 3D engine really. Currently supports drawing stuff, movement, backface culling. Next version I create will have texture mapping, hopefully lighting, possibly 3D terrain via heightmaps, and possibly model loading.
Created using C++, SDL for the window and input, and OpenGL for the rest.
I would recommend moving to C++ or C#. I havn't used C# much, but the syntax is fairly simple, I myself am not a fan of it though, I prefer the C++ syntax. Anyway, either one will provide the same benefits. You'll probably be able to find more resources for C++ though.
back_to_blackvector is correct, gamemaker is a piece of crap for young children. On another note, I went to their forums and asked them why they used Gamemaker over a language like C++ in a polite nice way, and they closed the topic, and banned me. The creators of gamemaker are money hungry folks.

What the fuck is wrong with you? This jackass pirated this amazing piece of software and you are telling him how to work it....
It takes a lot of work to create a window w/ the WinAPI, and yes the WinAPI is in C..
