Not the point though. The point is that Nintendo is just as guilty as rehashing old shit as everybody else. More so if you ask me. Not so much because they have more games, but because they games they do have are more often then not based off of old characters. But it matters not, I don't want to turn this into a console war.

I was just saying that it seemed strange for a Nintendo fan to be bothered by new games made from old story lines... or something like that.

Mega Man is capcom, but yeah not the point.

There is always several versions of mario for each system they've made. And yeah they do rehash a lot of their old games and keep most of their franchises running for a long time (zelda, mario, metroid). But at the same time they've always seemed to be pushing games in new directions.

Nintendo has come out with a lot more original takes and ideas on gameplay than any other system imo. Games like warioware, duck hunt and starfox were all revolutionary at their time. They also invented some awesome failures, like the virtual boy and that robot thing for the nes.

I'm not a fanboy (I hate that brand loyalty bs) but I can't think of a manufacturer that has done more for oringinal gameplay than nintendo. Even take the wii for example, while sony and microsoft are making consoles with faster processors and more powerful hardware, nintendo steps out of that race for the fastest and focuses on new gameplay ideas.

Yeah it's true. There's a lot of original games out that haven't doen too bad. Like Phoenix Wright, Geometry wars, trauma center. There's also awesome games that sold nothing, like psychonauts.

Whenever and original game does well, anything in the same vein (read: ripoff) is viewed as a safe investment by the publishers. So you end up with rakes of games looking to mop up after the original. Look at how many games with crappy stealth-based features came out after mgs.

It's the same with all main media, like in films, music and tv. Anytime something original does well it gets ripped apart to fuck. Which is why there's gonna be a decline in the mainstream games market imho.
