Sorry to make this topic dragging on.

dont sweat it its not that big of a deal,

i mean this one has to be the worst review ever

The music factor here... well there is none. It's just vocals, so I don't know why you put it under classical.

The submission made me chuckle though. Either, way this is nothing special.

by neo-fusion. yours was better than this at least lol

also for your post, no problem, you deserve the praise :) some of the people in this club put their opinions into it, and last time I checked this club is supposed to be about improving the artist's work not to just bash it. and if you dont like a piece give a legitimate reason why.

Not exactly what I'd call a loop, but definitely what I'd call a good attempt. Sadly, I didn't even understand a word of the first two lines you wrote in the Author's Comments :P (I'm only Grade 3 Theory D:) so I'll judge this as a song not as a project, but anyway, this is still pretty well done ;).

The melodies are really nice. I don't see why the others don't think it as a piratey melody, it does sound quite piratey IMO. At least something that reminds me of the sea. I liked the melody you used at around 0:11, and I also enjoyed that you didn't leave the clarinet playing legato notes all the time, but switched fluently from legato to staccato. Kept me listening without getting bored ;). This should be much louder though, because I had to turn the volume up a lot to hear it clearly, and then, when someone sent me a message on MSN, the sound blasted through my speakers. D:

The instruments aren't that good quality, but that's MIDI for me I guess. I really agree wih Haggard; you should make a newer version which doesn't have to do with Composition Assignments with much better quality instruments, more variety of instruments, and maybe making it longer, since I really like the melodies you used over here.

I can't really complain about transitions. Maybe you should look into the viola's transition at 0:25 as Calamaistr said, but other than that, the song played nice and smoothly. Structure and variety are great, and there was no fixed chorus, so the song didn't get monotonous at all. It did get a little random at times, but Classical usually doesn't have any choruses being repeated every few bars, so they're bound to sometimes get a little random. Intro was good, it's nice that you started it a little quiter than the rest of the song instead of suddenly starting it loudly. Ending was very nice too. It ended on the right note and at the right time, with a nice little melody before it ends. Sorry for the long paragraph =\.

It's a nice little piece, with a lot of variety, some very nice melodies, and good intro and outro. Just work on making it louder, longer, with better instruments/more instruments all in another version and you'll have a great song. Drop me a line if you submit a new version of this :D. By the way, this is more Classical than VG :\.

Just thought I would throw out there that this has to be one of the best reviews I have ever got It is fair, and it tells me what I need to work on in detail. It also tells me what he likes about it, what he doesn't like about it, and even asks questions. I recommend you guys use this as a guide to write better reviews. I'm not really sure how your points system works or even what they are for, but this should get Supersteph54 extra points or something way to be awesome :)

thank you. You dont have to like it, just give it a fair chance before you judge it, and keep an open mind. If you dont like it tell me, but give me reasons I only get upset when people say stuff like this sucks, because I want to know what I need to do so that it doesn't suck.

Im not saying he has to like the piece. But if your going to say that you don't like a piece then say I don't think it works very well, or I dont like it because ... He pretty much just says this piece sucks and you sound gay singing it. The reason I ask for a review from you guys, because you guys are supposed to give fair honest reviews, not the reviews many newgrounders give. I mean heres what Kirbyfemur says on one of my piece

Well it was a nice little piece to say the least.

What need to be fixed up:

The instrument sounds need to be tweaked both in the software sounds being used, and in the volumes of the individual instruments. Because it was hard to hear some of the parts.

It feels a lot longer than the :45 seconds it is, probably because of the tempo of the song.

I do realize that good sound software is difficult to find, but do a little bit of searching and you'll find something.

Anyways, I would love to hear a more expanded version of this song, even though I wouldn't be about to use it in something, since i am not a flash artist.

Anyways, not to bad. =3

He gives critical criticism to help me make the piece better, and says whats wrong with it. Yes this is a moderate review, but do you see the difference between this review and your review. It has a purpose, not just oh this sucks then random fluff if you wanna review things, give it reason

Dude, the fact of the the Audio Portal is to have actual instruments in it. This is NOT American Idol Auditions. I couldn't tell if you sounded more like a girl or a boy in this but it sounds really gay. A;though, it sounded like it echoed a little.

This is really short too but it made it sound like 5 minutes. I don't see the point of singing a poem or something but you could have at least have birds singing in it or something.

Your voice is really clear though and I only heard you breath once or twice. Overall, I didn't like it but here is the overall score:

Lyrics 5/10
Voice 3/10
Instruments 0/10
I couldn't find anything else to put in this review so bye.

Request

Please if you are going to review someone's work, read the description first, I requested a review on a work and got the same review 5-6 times from people saying it would be better if you added strings or something, and its to quiet, even though I mention in the description, this is a work I did for a composition project where we were required to use this text and this instrumentation. It had to be bassoon and vocal soprano, I also would like to say that although I appreciate your review, I do, look back at some of the other review from your fellow club members because you guys all essentially said the same thing.

Topic: Sheet Music Download

Posted: 08/11/09 12:48 AM

Forum: Audio

How Awesome would it be to have an option on here that gave newgrounds artists to sell their sheet music on newgrounds. the point of newgrounds audio portal was to give flash artists use of all royalty free music for flashes that could go on to be something. And if they do the flash artist doesn't have to give the musician anything if they dont want to they just have to give them credit. So what if you could put a link on the panel to buy the sheet music Newgrounds could collect a small percentage of the sheet music profit and this would give newgrounds audio artists the opportunity to make something off their music. (ya prolly mostly only classical would really get anything out of this) but idk it sounds like it could be a good idea i mean i was listening to this guys nocturne on here and I was like i would love to learn that

I think you can hear her voice because they just made her voice louder than the other stuff. And I think it's not crackly because it's Hans Zimmer and he can afford good microphones.

Also, if you are doing movie music, I suggest making it a category of its own, because it really is. It's a stretch calling these classical just because you can hear an orchestra, and in actual classical music sound engineering is not a big issue, considering it is intended for a live audience and simply needs to be recorded as is.

aww thats what i was gonna say lol yeah movie music is way dif then classical music i mean you can say movie music is influenced by classical music but if you wanna be a film composer listening to some classical is good (i do more then I should) but listening to film music is way more important and even more important just watching a lot of movies more then once so you can see how the music impacted the film to make it better. as a film composer you understand that film music is very important to the film watch a movie with out the music and just use subtitles or better yet watch a low budget independent film that has no music it changes the way the movie feels i mean some of the best movies loose their appeal because they dont have any music in them and become hard to watch

i took a music recording class for funsies at the community college and got absolutely nothing out of it also everything i learned was engineering stuff so if you wanna be an engineer then maby recording school is good but if you wanna score then just knowing the basics should be fine dude make sure you have at least 3 pieces to give to them 1 solo, 1 solo with accomp and 1 duet or trio (this is the min) make them contrasting sounding and know your theory

i was in your shoes a year ago and from my travels go to your local state school or a smaller school that still has a good program Im from arizona so i chose ASU heres why USC hates their undergraduates even though thats where i wanted to go like someone recently said they don't care where you studied go to a school that has a good program but doesn't necessarily cost as much Arizona state is costing half as much as USC would have they way i see it go to graduate school get a master in music composition from whatever school you want. maby asu is a good bet they have a great program for just a state school then take that degree and apply to USC or Berkley plus if you get into USC you get to study with RIchard Kraft danny elfman and alan menken's agent he teaches a class over there
