Why am I feeling a lot of sorrow for him and relatively little after watching the video of Nick Berg being beheaded in Iraq? I think I am going to hate myself for lack of sorrow over Berg.

I now worry that RIP messages will replace his works. I hope not. Perhaps right before the works, and as part of the full version of Domo's War, should that ever be completed.

You probably feel a lot more sorrow for Zach because one, it was like he was one of "us". Two, his death was something so innocent; he was only trying to go out and have fun. Now Berg was a tool for revenge after the visually recorded degradation of the Iraqi POWs. I hope that Zach's sister makes it through (if she is still in the hospital in grave condition). I hope everyone involved in the humiliation of Iraqi POWs gets dishonorably discharged from the army. You can all tell who I feel sorry for more. ;)

OMG! He lived in St. Louis?! He must've been the kid that I heard about on the news days ago!!! I felt sympathetic then, but now I really feel sorry! Rest in peace, fellow St. Louisan.

Too many kids die in car crashes here, especially around this time. Some other young man died before Zach, not too long ago; poor little guy had just got his licence. A few days ago, a young pregnant woman, 19, and some of her family died, mostly the children. Another senseless tragedy.

Response to: making a forum to put on my site Posted August 16th, 2003 in Programming

If you don't pay for hosting, going for something like ezboard should suffice, if you like your popup ads after every page transition. If you do pay for web hosting, most likely you have access to Php, Perl Cgi, Asp, and My SQL. When you have access to even just php and/or perl, it's really good to host your own forum.

I pay for hosting, but I don't have php. So I stick with perl, which I'm learning anyways. I found a nice Perl forum called CuteCast, and it works like a charm. I can't get the full potential of the forum from the crappy hosting I fooled myself into buying (they don't even give customers smtp mail accounts, just pop3 >:( ), but it's a sweet forum as is. You can go to the Cutecast website and d/l cool forum skins, plugins like b-day notification, and hacks like News Updates and site portals. My forum's going to rock once I switch hosts later in Feb. (I need smtp mail to start sending out newsletters to my members). I'm going to even have my own Paint/Oekaki BBS! So much fun. ^v^

Appreciation is an entirely different case I believe.

Either way; Back to the topic.

If the more mature inhabitants of Newgrounds can co-operate more, we would have a less "SPAMful" surfing, which is a good thing of course.

Because of immatuiry or plain stupidity, many SPAMmers tend to write countless reviews which provide no praise, no constructive criticism, or EVEN some comments (Let Alone grammar and spelling). Instead, many Flash Movies of All Time (Return of Ganondorf, Rockman NEO, etc...) has been plagued by direct insults (Racist, sexist, profanity-filled, death-threats, religious insults, etc...) or spamming (UNrelated Websites, Outwar, PornStarGuru blah blah blah... I can go on forever with this list...); we can do without any of that.

Newgrounds is a portal (No Pun Intended) for ameteaur and near-professional animators and musicians to show their work. I; being a beginner animator, loves constructive criticism and small praises. This encourages me to work smarter (From Constructive Criticism) and harder (From Praises). But with direct insults to me or my associates, I cannot improve as they do not state what is wrong with my work. Instead, I was left a website which has no value to me. And the user's impatience... Oh Geez... It really annoys me (And all the other animators who value their work) when the reviewers give low ratings due to their own problems.

This; Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, and any other unknown lifeforms reading this, is my view of what the users see and feel.

Gives a standing O'. :) Well put, man. All that is needed is constructive critism, not put downs. Most of the stupid/bad remarks come from members who don't have any surviving movies under their belt, and most of them don't even know who to use Flash properly. It doesn't mean that ppl can't write good reviews, but it helps if the members writing reviews know where the author is coming from with it comes to animation. I know my reviews aren't necessarily the nicest, but I at least acknowledge what I think needs improvement.

Response to: Pictures in reviews Posted July 25th, 2003 in NG News

That's not such a bad idea, kid. That could work out for the better, because it could get rid of a lot of unneeded reviews. But there are the ocassional a-holes out there that will, just for the hell of it, click a good review as not helpful and a bad/abusive review as helpful. It all depends on the taste and maturity of the persons who read the reviews, so on the other side, it could mean that some animator loses a bit of constructive critism from viewers. :/

This coming from someone with NO flash movies here and the nerve to bash highly respected Flash artists after giving them good movie reviews (all the while using improper grammar too). Way to go, attention whore. ;)

Anyways, I don't care whether it's imported video or real vector animation, Flash is Flash. And the Portal is home to all types of Flash. GTK2 is fucking hilarious. It was probably fun and hard work making it. Randy, you gets all props from me.

Response to: big hacking on sunday Posted July 4th, 2003 in General

I'm really tired of people misusing the term hacker. Hackers are programmers who use their powers for awesome. They're the ones who test the internet and important database sites for proper security, and some use their powers to make clean, practical jokes (like when you open an anonymous email, open attached file, and flowers shower your monitor with a cutesy message). Hackers are good guys. Crackers (no, not the dirty word for white ppl) are programmers who use their hacking skills for illegal gigs, like destroying information off of someone's computer, stealing money out of bank accounts over the internet, identity theft, spreading malicous viruses, and heinously destroying database sites either out of spite, for fun, or for money. Crackers are the ones to look out for. I want to become a hacker in the future, and I'd hate to have a bad rep just because of some douche bag that doesn't want to earn an honest living.

Not only do I visit NG everyday, I'm also a moderator at the Arrogancy.net (the cool anime series here. :D) forums. A while ago, we received our first outwar spammer. I knew NG had a problem with these pests, but I never would have suspected for them to reach Arrogancy. There hasn't been an incident there since, but I am basically pissed off at these Outwar spammers. I know that bastard who spammed the Arrogancy forums more than likely came from NG.

I want to know how some tips on how you members actually catch a lot of these spammers (I guess read a lot of reviews); I've only caught 2 myself. I want to help so I can try to deter those bastards from spamming Arrogancy.net. Thanks, and keep up the good work. :)

Response to: Is My site Cool? Posted July 4th, 2003 in General

The site is ok. I have a problem with the wings on top of the page; looks like cut-and-paste. Also, I think the site would look a lot better if the content was organized into tables, like how NG is. Everything on NG is aligned and looks a lot less like clutter. I also use tables and CSS to my advantage in my site. Lexi's Lounge

Note: I also know there is/was another Lexi's Lounge out there that happens to be the fan site of a "working woman" (hint hint). That's a .com site. Mine is .net and not a fan site for a soft porn star, so don't get the address confused. Just letting you guys know that, because I used to get emails from people looking for porn and I had to direct them to the right site. I think the porn site's closed now, hopefully. -_-;;

True, i'm athiest and my family is either pagan, catholic, baptist or christin. so i'm surprised i wasnt disowned after telling everyone my "religous" belifes. Back to the topic, if they disown you your better off without them. because throwing you out of the family shows they never really loved you.

That's not true. Shock and a whole bag of other emotions can make ppl do some stupid things. Mr. C, just because your family MIGHT, and I emphasize that, MIGHT disown you doesn't mean that they do/did not love you. It may take some time for your family to get comfortable with your realization of being gay. I have a gay cousin. He didn't let us know, though he didn't have to. But it must have eaten him up inside keeping it to himself, so he told our grandmother, who then passed the news on to almost everyone else. I don't know about his father though, he may know by now. My family went on a rant of it's a sin and how my cousin has a sick perverted uncle on his mother's side of his family, and that he could have molested/raped my cousin. I knew something was up with my cousin when we were kids. I'm happy because he's happy being himself, and I strongly defended him whenever family brought up his sex life (none of their business, but they do it anyway). Eventually, my family stopped bringing it up, though they do still try to stick their noses in their love life. I have to admit, I worried too; his last b/f was a jerk. :P

What I'll break it down to you, Mr. C. If your family has been through thick and thin with your thus far, they should be able to get over you being gay and live with it. You're still the same son/cousin/friend/ that you've always been to them. But if they do take the situation to extremes, then it is best to let them handle it their way until they calm down. Stay with friends if need be, and try to keep some communication with family open. Families that break can heal with time. Congratulations on your revelation, and may luck, love, and support be with you through the turbulence that is "coming out".

Response to: I want all the rumors to end now Posted June 21st, 2003 in General

When someone makes a game or movie about killing/maiming Osama or Saddam, some little punk viewer already has it in his/her head that all muslims are terrorists and that they all should be killed. That's a very Nazi attitude coming from an uneducated individual; it's like how Nazis didn't tolerate Jews because they thought that they were "purifying" Germany. Caucasians thought that Africans were inferior just because they lived with nature instead of against it and because of some different physical features. Therefore, they justified slavery for several hundred years. On the contrary, there were vast advanced empires all over Africa (no, Egypt was not the only one ::rollseyes:: ) long befores Europeans got there, so I don't see what's to be inferior in comparison.

Why did all this happen? Because of people who were sadly ignorant, and they had their heads up their asses. Too bad there still too many of those people around, as is evident with many NG members. Those individuals are in need of some very thorough history classes, especially history of other countries. Even U.S. History has a lot of cons to it, besides slavery and capitalism. The US invaded Hawaii, Cuba, and of course, Africa. If people could see how the US has done so many other countries wrong, they wouldn't be talking about killing others of different nationality/religion/ethnicity. Instead, they could learn to respect others.

The US sucks for the fact that people here, including federal government, got it in their heads that it's ok to police the world and seize power from other countries because they are "a potential threat", like Iraq. Yeah right, more like a potential source of power and riches. Mid. Eastern are rich countries, and they provide oil for us. For America to want to support an invasion of another country in order to steal natural resources really sickens me. Those poor citizers of Iraq want to be heard, and they even resulted in violence to do it, not usually with guns. What did US troops do? Shoot the people in cold blood; sure the people throw stuff that can hurt, but if a police officer can subdue a criminal without killing him/her, certainly the military could. But they rarely do. All that's broadcast is that a US troop went down in the line of duty. Well, what about all those protesters they killed? Reports hardly spend a few measely seconds on the protesters. "Oh, but they're just Iraqi muslim trash, they deserved it." This is the attitude I get when I watch the news now. Oh yeah, the United States is aaalll about freedom.

On with the topic, not sure if this was answered already, but here goes. There is a recently (not new) game submitted called "Tarzan (Japanese)" out there in the portal somewhere, and I have a strong hunch it's stolen. I could tell for the fact that the thief said it was in Japanese, when the game is actually in Korean. Plus, the real source of the game is posted as a logo inside the game seen in the corner. The member who sumbitted it already received many bad reviews for sending in the stolen work. I just want to know if there can be something done about stolen works that are no longer under judgement. If we email Tom or Wade, will they remove the movies/games in question?

It's nice to see that there are people like you Laertes who know what's really going on.

-----------------------------

I really agree with you and Laertes. For one thing, WE attacked the Mid East on a Sept. 11 back when Bush Sr. was in office, trying to exploit the countries for their oil and when we were in economic crisis, as we are now with ol' sonny boy in office now. Hmm... Now what just happened a year before on Sept. 11? Ah yes, PAYBACK. Don't think that they did this shit because they hate us and we're 'infidels'. They do hate us (for a good reason), and did this to send a message, that they aren't going to be pushed around by the U.S. for much longer. Other countries also feel this way, but didn't go as far. If we get into it with Iraq, other countries that hate us will back it up, while the U.N. goes Switzerland (which means they don't give a rat's ass, they'll remain neutral). Let me share something I talked about with a friend of mine on AIM (I'm Corona, my pal is Cyberstryker):

Corona Ra 05: All Iraq is doing is protecting what's theirs.
cyberstryker: yep
Corona Ra 05: So what if their leader is a tyrant asswipe? That's there business. We don't live there, so why should America care about kicking him out of office? And why are we tripping off of them having bio-weapons and nukes? FOR GOD SAKES, we have them too!!!
cyberstryker: i know
Corona Ra 05: All this is about is Bush trying to exploit them for their oil (rightfully theirs, on their property, not American soil at all), and look like he's has balls along with it. Stupid crackhead.
cyberstryker: i know
cyberstryker: that's why i didn't vote for him
-----------

All Bush Jr. is doing is trying to finish what Daddy Dearest started, which is to try to steal oil, make them disarm and take apart weapons that are probably the only means they have of defending themselves against enemy countries like us, and try to look like an American hero doing it. If we go to war, we'll will suffer horribly. We are already a broke-ass scrub country, so why should we get into any more shit? Colin Powell got himself out of most of the media spotlights because he knows most, if not all, of this "War on Terrorism" stuff is propoganda. Iraq's weapons are something that we shouldn't be policing right now. It's not worth the welfare of our country. Sorry for the long-ass post, but I'm glad that some of you here realize this stuff. I had to get this rant off of my chest- er, bossom.
