Now here is what you did wrong. First, since you were using Flash CS4, you used Motion Guides which is incompatible with all version of Flash and you used Actionscript 3.0 and had some XML codes or something.

Anyways I converted the CS4 file into a CS3 file. Which that make your motion guides into keyframes so no animation was lost and you did lose what ever you did in XML. Next I converted that CS3 file into Flash 8 and it lost all the actionscript 3 coding. So basically you'll need to redo the coding in Actionscript 2. However the only code I saw was the stop code.
