If you're talking old school cartoons, then the Preston Blair books are worth having in your collection. You can get them on amazon.

Why does it keep becoming a drawing object, but in other flas files of mine it's not?

It sounds like the 'Object Drawing' mode is turned on. Turn it off in your Tools window

Nope because 2d has it's own little charm. It's just another style, not a lesser form of animation.

Yes, a blank keyframe is just a keyframe with nothing in it. Draw something and you'll see.

There needs to be something in it to make it a keyframe.

yeah like CrustySheet said.... the 'movable' object has been painted on its own cell, rather than as part of the background. Something I used to notice in the old looney tunes cartoons.

Yeah mate, it's best learning to do it yourself. It's more work, but at the end of the day it's worth it, and you've learnt something new.

Have you considered rotascope?

Great pumpkins, I think my favourite is the madness one. Though that Dirge one is still bloody impressive.

Just curious, my Halloween Flash hasn't been put in the collection, will it still be considered? Not that I expect to win or anything (no chance!), but it would be nice to know it was looked at.

Is this the right thing to do, or is there a better way to go about it?

No way. Jpegs will not help. Use flash's drawing tools. When drawing in flash, you can optimize anything you've drawn.

In the menu, go to Modify > Shape > now either choose 'Smooth' or 'Optimize' to smooth out your drawings, they'll take up less memory.

At a certain part of my animation gets really choppy at the end with a motion and shape tween. These tweens are on different layers, so what the hell is the problem. Heres the link so you can watch it: http://www.zshare.net/flash/20490111918f 6ead/
Can you just tell me whats up so I can fix it.

I'd guess the problem is the background with all those squares and circles. Tweening them all is a bit too much for flash, especially while there's a shape tween going on aswell. You could either re draw the background, with something not so busy graphically, or use a jpegged version of the background you have.

Also, try optimizing your drawings (Modify>Shape>Optimize) It helps reduce memory and makes your drawings look much smoother.

btw you have a very David Firth style.

Look up the Wacom tablets. They have a few decent affordable ones.

I always prefer the brush tool. I think the line tool can make a drawing a bit dull and lifeless (just my opinion) I only use the line tool to work out perspectives n stuff.

I assume your dragging the mouths from the library each time?

How about putting all of the mouth shapes in 1 symbol (a graphic, not movie clip), and put each mouth shape in a frame each. Then in the properties window, you can select which mouth piece you want by picking the appropriate frame number. (this only works with Graphic Symbols)

Hope I make sense, still quite time consuming but it saves dragging the mouths over every time and trying to position them.

I don't think it's the blur causing it. I usually get leg like that if I forget to break apart the text. (ctrl B twice)

Saves importing horribly jpeg'd blurs

Any tips, suggestions? rants?

I like the simplicity. A few suggestions however...

Pick a colour scheme. You have Red, Green, Blue and Grey. Not exactly a nice mix of colours.

I dont like the Drawn look of the text. I can see what your trying to do. Have another go. Looks more like you've hurried it. How about making your own font?

Keep it simple. Like the way it is. Don't over clutter the pages with junk (you havent done that anyway so well done)

Keep playing around with it, spend more than 8 hours on it. I did about 3 or 4 different versions of my site before I found one I liked.

I've never used flash before and I'm lazy so I'll just ask, I totally don't know what I'm doing. So how do I do this?

Btw it's a time lapse/stop motion video, so don't flame me for wanting to upload a video instead of a flash animation.

May vary in different versions of Flash, but for Flash 8 you do...

File > Import > Import Video

Select the Video file you wanna use. Click Next.

Select the option to 'Embed' the video into the flash file. Click continue etc then it should import.

Hope that helps
