I'm still waiting for the hollywood version of AKira to destroy everything that was anime.
Given the right director and special effects, a live action version of Akira could be pulled off successfully. I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of Ridley Scott crossing Blade Runner and Alien. At least that's the first thing that comes to mind.
Yeah, a live action Akira could actually be pulled off decently with a sound budget, a good effect team, and a director that's willing to keep the characters and world real without letting the plot really run away with itself. I probably wouldn't enjoy it much with all of the gore and blood that would have to be in the final scene, but it would be fairly epic.
That is what I thought when I heard there would be a DBZ movie years ago. The reason I'm so pissed about what a fucking piece of shit they've made is because I already had low expectations. I expected some mainstream lameness, of course they're not going to directly make it exactly like the series. But this is just too much. I have no intent on seeing it. I hope it bombs harder than any movie ever, but I know really hardcore fans will see it anyway, or see it just to see how bad it is, which makes no sense to me.
However, everyone should have known that a DBZ movie would be anything but what DBZ was as a cartoon. The only way to have anything close to a live action DBZ would have been a highly detailed CG film. In fact, that would have probably been the right way to go, but I'm not surprised that this is what Japan comes up with. I entirely expect this to be a C movie, akin to a majority of the Godzilla sequels.
The guy that played Goku when wearing the Goku costume looked pretty decent from all the production pictures I saw. I had some hope that it would be decent until more information came out about needlessly excluding characters, making Goku a high school student for god knows what reason, and still continuously changing so much shit to the point that there's not even a reason for it to be called Dragonball.
I remember last month seeing a commercial for some street fighter movie. It looks EXACTLY like the Dragonball movie. There's just no point. I can't believe this shit apparently had a $100 mil budget. They don't give a fuck about the fans, they never did, they just named it Dragonball to sucker dumb fans into seeing it. The worst part is that it's not like DBZ was really even a masterpiece to begin with.
