Never, ever, EVER discuss politics with a significant other. That is all.

I suppose if Dante can do it, I can too. Depending on which way school goes, there's a chance I may enter the state police academy and I'd have to go through all the training. Sure, I danced for years, but I am a total wimp. I could never do a pull-up, and I can count how many push-ups I can do on one hand. I also have no endurance. Of course, I'm not sure if school will head that way yet.

Response to: Most Humiliating School Moment ? Posted September 3rd, 2009 in General

I was in freshman year of high school. I had the flu and had already thrown up breakfast that morning, but had a really important test first period. That and I felt a little better, so I went. I was okay for awhile. Then I felt myself start to get sick, so I told the teacher and left for the bathroom. My stomach started churning worse and worse while I was in the hallway, and I could feel my throat contracting, so I figured, "Okay, I'll try to make it to that trash can over there." I didn't. I threw up all over the floor right in front of one of the science classrooms. A bunch of kids crowded around the door and watched for whatever reason. One asked me if I was okay. (Yeah, I'm fine, I normally go around spewing bodily fluids for no apparent reason.) The teacher in that class took me to the nurse and I went home.

The funny part was my best friend at the time was in the class. Despite all the commotion around her, she didn't notice and kept on doing her work. I told her later and she said she never heard anything. Weird.

Response to: Man smacks a child!! Posted September 3rd, 2009 in General

Lemme guess...the median age of everyone posting here is about 15, right? At the age where no one has really worked with or been around children much? No wonder I'm seeing the comments in here I am.

Look, screaming kids are annoying. We all know that. But kids will just start crying for whatever reason at the drop of a hat. Maybe they're scared, maybe they dropped a toy, whatever. How do we know the mother wasn't already trying to shut her kid up? I'd move to another aisle, too, if some creepy stranger suddenly threatened me and my kid. I can't say I blame the woman. But then he had to go escalate the situation by following her. Of course she's going to be mad that a COMPLETE STRANGER smacked the hell out of her kid. And as anyone who's taken care of a kid knows, smacking them anywhere only makes them cry more. But of course, you're all teenagers talking shit over the Internet.

Honestly, the guy looks like a fucking sociopath. The previous poster was right--he probably does go around smacking children and kicking puppies for shits and giggles.

Fortunately the kid's okay--the local news called the mother that evening and the daughter was on the floor playing with her toys. The nice thing about kids is they have a really short term memory, but I wouldn't blame her for being afraid of strangers in the future.

Response to: Periods a bad excuse for violence? Posted September 3rd, 2009 in General

No, it's not. And I'm a woman, mind you. Sounds to me like she's just looking for a scapegoat to blame her shitty behavior on.

Myself, I just prefer to be left alone if I'm on mine. Sure, I can feel crabby, but that's just downright ridiculous.

Response to: Man smacks a child!! Posted September 3rd, 2009 in General

I agree that kids screaming in a store is annoying, but this guy is an asshole. How do we know the mother wasn't already trying to shut her up? Besides, kids cry for many reasons. Maybe they were there getting her medicine for the ear infection making her cry? The article only says the kid was crying, not that she was throwing a tantrum, running around, or wrecking the store.

If I ever have kids, I'LL be the one to shut them up if they scream their heads off in the store. If that guy had smacked my kid, TWO people would have gotten arrested. I'd have beaten the crap out of him for putting his hands on my kid.

Drown in a pit of caviar?

Funny...you folks were just talking about blisters and callouses, and now I have an open blister on my palm. I had a reaction to something, and the constant scratching of whatever itched caused a blister. It'll recover, but it bugs me when I'm doing something like washing my hair.

Oh, you should see the baby rabbits in the yard now. They get cuter as they get older. They're much bigger, have all their fur, and their eyes are now open. My dad set up a camera to record their actions, and two nights ago, we managed to get a shot of their mother nursing them. She hasn't been around for a couple days though. Hopefully nothing happened to her.

Response to: So, how're the adoption centers? Posted August 28th, 2009 in Politics

I was adopted. When my parents put through the application, they had to go through a shit ton of background checks. Criminal, financial, you name it. An agent even came to the house to make sure they had stuff like a crib and the house was safe.

What bothers me is that adopted parents are scrutinized like this, as well they should be, but any dumbass can decide to pop out a kid and no one looks at them. Then you have cases of child neglect and abuse, along with the welfare breeders who just want more money so they pop out another kid. To paraphrase a comedian, you need a license to catch a fish, but not to have children.

I now have a new laptop after my other one crapped out. I got the bad pool caller error and it never worked again. The last thing I saw before I kept getting black screens was FFX's Yuna doing a sending, which was quite appropriate.

Almost done configuring this thing, but I do wonder how the hell this built in webcam works. I'm poking around with it.

Response to: Countdown To Launch of Discovery Posted August 25th, 2009 in General

You're right, the shuttles won't launch anymore after this. I was at the Kennedy Space Center last month and they said after the shuttles, they'll go back to those single-use rockets they used in the '60s. Apparently they're safer and don't sustain damage over multiple launches.

Also, according to the launch bulletin board at the Space Center, the Discovery will be carrying a payload, but it's secret and has only been given a codename of some sort. That's odd--other than satellites, I thought they didn't launch payloads anymore?

Response to: Best sex music. Ohhh yeah. *squirt* Posted August 24th, 2009 in General

I HATE the song "Closer." No idea why I find it grating, I just do.

Prince's music was made for sex. So was some of Madonna's, like "Justify My Love" and some of the songs off her Erotica album. "Waiting" has a slow, languid beat that somehow makes me think of sex, especially her voice. On that note, another good band to have sex to is one she collaborated with, Massive Attack. Their song "I Want You" is a good one. Hell, a lot of stuff by them along is.

Another good one is "Turn the Lights Down Low" by Bob Marley.

Response to: Most Liberal College Majors Posted August 24th, 2009 in Politics

Funny how that works...one girl I knew who was conservative was undecided her first semester, then ended up as a foreign language major, because she wanted a military career. The most liberal students I met tended to be art majors. Another liberal major I noticed was music theory, which has far worse career potential. My guess for the liberal bend when it comes to certain majors is these students tend to be the bohemian or hippie type.

Here's another consideration: does what school the students attend skew the results any? Because if all the engineering majors are going to Brigham Young, for example, I can see that coming into play.

Response to: Little birds under my porch (Pics)! Posted August 23rd, 2009 in General

Right now there's a rabbit hole in the back yard. My dad accidentally ripped it up with the lawnmower so I've been repairing it as needed. There are four bunnies inside. One keeps trying to bust out of the nest because he wants to see the world. His mother came back this morning to put him back. I keep needing to repair the nest because he keeps trying to bust back.

I've named the bunnies Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. The rambunctious one is Peter, which is appropriate given the Peter Rabbit story. He tried busting out again the other day and I though, "Okay, you're Peter." I named their mother Beatrix after Peter Rabbit's author.

They're getting bigger and now have fur, but are still too little to leave the nest. Their eyes are still closed and their ears back.

Response to: - The Regulars Lounge Thread - Posted August 23rd, 2009 in Politics

I saw SevenSeize's Adventure when it had just passed judgment and was surprised no one mentioned it before this.

More, I wouldn't suggest swimming. One, there are currents, and two, God knows what's in that water. Canoeing down the street might be fun though. We had a big flood here a few years ago and my cousin went kayaking to the BP. He said it was fun.

There's a ton of alcohol in the house now after a party my parents had last night. It'll take awhile to get through. We made fun of Dad for buying box wine. It tastes awful, BTW. We have tons of beer and mixed drinks. I don't like beer, so that'll probably sit unless my parents decide to drink it. I prefer the harder stuff. My favorite is tequila.

What surprised me about the rabbit hole is around 10 this morning, the mother came back, which is completely contrary to their behavior--they only come in the evening and late at night. I think it's because one of the rabbits is quite anxious to get out and see the world and his mother was putting him back. Whenever I go out to check on the rabbits, that one keeps wrecking my fixes to the nest because he's trying to get out.

This may sound stupid, but I've named the rabbits. They're Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. Peter is the one who keeps trying to bust out, which seems appropriate given the story of Peter Rabbit. I call their mother Beatrix, after Peter Rabbit's author.

The rabbits are bigger and furrier now, but still too small to leave the nest.

Mohawk and piercings, yes, that'll get you judged--and there go your chances for most jobs, too.

The only other thing I can see that may set that guy's alarm off are the ripped jeans. Jeans with holes in them scream "I'm sloppy and don't care about my appearance." That may not be the case, but that's what people see. I can see why this guy is concerned. Sure, you may think it's cool or rebellious or whatever, but when you get out of high school, either change your style or you are in for one rude awakening.
