I was not surprised that Geno Smith was starter. Honestly, Sanchez being injured is the best thing that could happen to the team. The whole Jets setup is a major clusterfuck, but I agree with you that Rex Ryan shoulders most of the blame there.

Sanchez should get in his car and maybe go to Columbus. Maybe then he'd finally know what a long drive is.

Shit tons of museums. Kayaking season is basically over so you'll have to wait. You don't have to be 21 to get into Primanti's though. Then there's Squirrel Hill. Forget pub crawls, it is perfectly possible to do a pizza crawl there since there are so many places selling by the slice.

At least they're winning, 21-17.

Honestly, the way the Steelers played, they're practically gift-wrapped for the Bengals. I did literally LOL when they got the safety though.

Two guys out for the season already. Pouncey tore both his ACL and MCL and the offense was basically built around him. See, this is why you don't build offenses around one guy. I saw the special teams issues today too.

And I don't care how many guys are injured, they need to cut Redman and replace him with someone who can hold onto the fucking ball.

Lots of surprises in the NFL today though. Surprised the upsets are coming on opening day though.

The Browns really are Ohio's IRL equivalent of Epic Fail Guy, aren't they?

One game that might be interesting is New Orleans vs. Atlanta. Sean Peyton is back this year and I don't think people realize how much of a morale booster he is to the team. He also runs a very tight ship. Now let's see if they can score points without a bounty system. I'm guessing New Orleans wins this one, especially given their history with Atlanta. They'll feel they have something to prove.

As for the Steelers, it'll be interesting to see how the full team performs this year, not just the preseason squads. I think the organization made a huge mistake cutting Jonathan Dwyer, even if they got Health Miller back. Forget the whole "fire Todd Haley" thing, they need to fire whoever that moron was running special teams during preseason. That's where the problems lie this year. They're starting to take action on fixing up an aging offense, but with the new guys comes inexperience. That can only be fixed with time though.

So glad football is back. It's been a long offseason.

I agree. At least last year there was the Olympics. WTF am I supposed to watch?

Also, I have a feeling my husband will be stealing ZJ's picture. Boobs and cute girls in glasses are his two weaknesses.

In other news, I wonder if they sell this lingerie for other teams.

Did you hear about that guy in Denver who started a Change.org petition because he was upset about the banner of Joe Flacco hanging outside the stadium? Seriously, dude, it would have been whoever the opposing team's quarterback was. And IT'S A FREAKING BANNER.

My gut instinct says the Ravens, but the team doesn't have all the parts from last year, especially with the departure of Ray Lewis. I think it'll also come down to quarterbacks. John Elway took a gamble with Peyton Manning and hit blackjack last year. But Peyton's arm isn't as good as it used to be. If anything, he can still do commercials.

I think I have assimilated to the Pittsburgh area. Tomorrow for Labor Day, I am making kielbasa and pierogies. Throwing sauerkraut in there too. Guess it's my German heritage talking. We don't have a grill outside since we don't have room. When I lived in Ohio, everyone treated me as an outsider and I never fit in. Here, though...everyone lets me be.

I'm just happy I don't have work tomorrow. How's everyone's Labor Day weekend (for those of us in the States) going?

When Miley Cyrus quit Hannah Montana and started doing dumb things, I figured we'd find out how much of a freak she really is. Can I call them or can I call them? I'm just waiting for the second part of my prediction: she does porn.

Response to: Bradley Manning Sex Change Thread Posted August 23rd, 2013 in General

Before he even got access to the documents, the military psychiatrist who did his background check flat out told the Army he was mentally unstable and should not be given access to classified documents. He got the clearance anyway. Look what happened. Maybe a court-martial is a bit extreme, but whoever gave the OK despite the evidence should get SOMETHING for stupidity.

I don't think we had any business over in the Middle East other than finding bin Laden, but the documents Manning released got a lot of military personnel and Middle Eastern civilians killed. He released them without giving two shits about what would happen. He can take the dick he was issued at birth and used to enlist in the Army and rot in prison for all I care.

I do wonder why he chose the name Chelsea. In all seriousness, I wonder how transgendered individuals choose their new names. Serious curiosity, not being snarky.

Response to: Mean letter sent to an autistic kid Posted August 22nd, 2013 in General

Actually, my official diagnosis is PDD-NOS. Meaning, I'm not an Aspie, but I'm not autistic, either. I guess "antisocial" is considered a disorder now?

Response to: Mean letter sent to an autistic kid Posted August 22nd, 2013 in General

I'm actually on the spectrum (PDD) so I think I'm qualified to have an opinion. Obviously the woman is deranged, but if the kid is outside screaming all day, that is a legitimate noise complaint. There are ordinances for stuff like barking dogs and loud stereos; I don't see how this isn't a disturbance. When an autistic child screams like that, it's either because they're in distress or some need (like mental stimulation) isn't being met. That's the fault of the parent/caregiver, not the child.

Another thing: if they are allowing that behavior, they are only making it worse for the kid, and harder for him to mainstream. Obviously, this particular case is severe, but there are a ton of parents who think "my kid's autistic, so I don't have to discipline him/her." Yes, you do. Obviously accommodations need to be made in some cases, but they get discipline. Plus, having structure is important, because it helps them cope and makes it easier for them to mainstream, if possible, since they learn how the world works.

Sometimes my mom had to take me out of situations when I was really little (birthday parties were bad, too much commotion), but otherwise, there was a lot of "deal with it," in a way. I was not going to get out of treating other people with respect, being quiet in places where I was expected to, or house rules that would be applied to any other kid just because I was "special." And look where I ended up. When I hit kindergarten, I was completely mainstreamed and needed ZERO special classes/therapy. OK, so social interactions were tough, but let's face it, kids/teenagers are dicks. It's true that there is no instruction manual for children on the autism spectrum (or any child, for that matter), but the "autism support" whiners (not all the parents, just the preachy/whiny ones) need to stop being victims and start being fucking parents.

I took this test back in 2005 and scored right around where Camarohusky did. I knew I moved to the right since then, but I wasn't expecting to be squarely on the center. I think I might have scored a bit differently if they asked me about issues that really get me riled up, like illegal aliens and gun control. They touched on abortion a bit, but I don't know if it would have made a difference. I am pro-choice, but I also believe in personal responsibility. Does that make sense?

My husband doesn't drink. No moral reason, he just doesn't like the taste of alcohol. He also insists it smells like medicine. He doesn't get in anyone's face about it, and is perfectly fine with buying me alcohol. If we're out somewhere, I always have an automatic designated driver, so that's good.

I can't stress this enough: if you're going to college, make sure you get a degree that actually makes you employable. Case in point: one of my cousins. It's bad enough she went through three different colleges in six years before getting a degree. But what's her degree in? Modern Egyptian History. No, seriously. Considering all that's happened in Egypt the past two years, I guess it's not modern anymore.

I admit, $15 is a bit high for the average patty flipper, but i am in no way objected to the increase of minimum wage. It should be realistic; reflecting on the actual skill required for the job (which is probably next to none in the first place) & the always increasing cost of living, but of course that's in a perfect little fantasy world.

That's the thing. You could get absolutely anyone to do those jobs. There's no real skill involved. As I explained in another thread, these people have no leverage for that reason. If they were, say, electricians, there's more leverage, as there is skill and training/certifications involved.

I can understand a bump up in the minimum wage, but $15? Why should a burger flipper make more money than my husband, who works in IT and has certifications, does?
