I suppose it was only a matter of time. Looks like it comes with its own Jarvis too, in a way.

I'd love one, but where would I put it? I only have so much closet space.

I kinda like the chirping. I can hear crickets out in the bushes by my bedroom window at night. It's kind of calming. Better than the railroad tracks nearby, anyway. Well, we plan to buy a house and move out of here eventually, so I won't have to deal with it TOO much longer, I suppose.

There was a three-legged cricket out in the hallway the one day too. He didn't make noise though. Guess he didn't want to alert whatever ate his fourth leg.

Another grasshopper! This guy was in the hallway in my apartment building trying to get out. He was afraid of me and kept jumping all over the place, which is why this picture isn't all that great. Didn't want his picture taken. The one before was totally chill.

Without spoiling it for Sentio, I can say he'll have one exciting game to watch tomorrow. This is shaping up to be a real slugfest.

The Steelers have a bye week. At least they can't lose. I just thought of something, though: what if the Steelers, the Pirates, and the Penguins all played the same day? Would the city just shut down due to snarled traffic? I dunno.

I'm a little surprised Carolina lost today. Regardless of how their record ends this year, it's looking like the head coach's job is in trouble.

The husband and I were off at a con for the first half and we came back at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Wembley Stadium had a competitive and exciting game for once, which is good. Of course, the Steelers lost because Big Ben couldn't hold onto the fucking ball. He really needs to change his play style, which is why I think Todd Haley is up his grill. If he won't change, and it means benching/releasing him, so be it. The Steelers are still making mistakes, but I am happy to see some life on the offense for a change. This game, though, once again makes me think Big Ben may be washed up already. But he's the best they have now though.

Very surprised to see some of the other scores, and it looks like the Texans/Seahawks fans are getting a show too. The NFL is all weird this year.

In other news, I thought this was cool. This guy decided to do the NFL logos as "Game of Thrones" sigils.

That, and the way California is, it'll probably end up being something like minimum wage is raised 15% but taxes are raised 25%,

Funny Sentio should post that. I was thinking today, the Wembley Stadium game has the Steelers and the Vikings, both 0-3. Sentio and the Brits deserve better. The good news for both teams is SOMEONE has to win that game.

Then again, at least the Steelers have a shot next week.

Emailing back and forth with my husband who is stuck at work, and he brought up a point that had been at the back of my mind for a bit. I wonder if Big Ben is already washed up. I'm thinking he needs to change his play style, but either hasn't learned/refuses to learn. I know everyone is going to be calling for Todd Haley's head on a pike, but I'm not sure Haley himself is the problem. There's a clash between him and the offense for whatever reason. Ben's influence, maybe?

Well, at least there's been a touchdown. Though I think I'll be saying this year what Pirates fans have said for so many: Please, can we just finish at .500?!

I have been wondering the exact same thing. They got Anquan Boldin, but it's not enough to save them, obviously.

Jay Cutler has thrown to the same guy five times now. I get why he likes him, but wouldn't you think the opposing team's defense would catch on after awhile?

The Steelers and the Pirates both have games. I imagine traffic on the North Side is an absolute nightmare.

I'm still wondering WTF happened to the Giants. I wasn't expecting San Diego to be ahead of Tennessee, but all the other games are pretty much as I predicted.

I agree though, the early matchups aren't too exciting (for me, anyway). Need to wait until later for all the good games.

I'm just hoping the Steelers can get SOMETHING going.

Got myself a second Master's, a better job, and a husband since I last heard from you. I doubt I'll be having kids though. Not interested.

Most likely increased employment and a small price increase.

Though it being California, how many illegals would snap those jobs up? The welfare state over there is one major reason they're in trouble.

People can bitch about Todd Haley all they want, but Ben's issues with him are not the problem. The problem is the O-line is playing like crap, and even the return to the no-huddle offense, which has served them well in the past, didn't help other than at the end of the second quarter. Nobody is catching the ball, Ben isn't throwing well, and the run game, which the Steelers were previously built on, is nonexistent. That being said, Ben DOES need to play more of his O-line more often and quit making one or two guys do all the work. What happens if one gets injured, for one?

Bears next week. Not feeling too confident. However, Bears pulled off a squeaker this weekend and they won after the Bengals shit the bed in the previous game. Looking at the play-by-play from the Vikings game this past weekend, most of the big plays were defensive. So who knows. Cutler is looking better than Ben right now though.

I worked an 11-hour shift today. I'd better see some good football, especially if I'm staying up late. Here's hoping the morning crash doesn't kill me. I do have work again after all.

I always had a feeling James Harrison would retire a Steeler. I may be right. There's a Steelers bar in Cincy called Martino's on Vine (owners are from Greater Pittsburgh area). Harrison hung out there once as a Steeler and stopped by recently. Also, there was a clip of him on one of the sports talk shows and they showed him a video of Lebeau and asked what he thought. He got choked up, cried, and said he missed him.

Holy crap, what happened to the 49ers?

California is raising the minimum wage to $10 by 2016. Of course, California is an absolute basket case that is hemorrhaging money even when the cost of living is so high there. Obviously there are multiple reasons for this, but that's another topic entirely. I'm wondering what this is going to do to the state.

Hey, look at it this way: The AFC North is going to have some power ranking changes.

The Ravens will get a win today because the Browns are the Browns. The game of the week tomorrow, though, is up in the air. The Steelers were a mess last week, and hopefully the adjustments they've made will help. They've got Dwyer back, which gives me some confidence at least. The Bengals, meanwhile, threw a game they should have won. James Harrison will also be raring to go against his old team and I expect him to get at least two sacks in, as he will have his sights set on Big Ben. Regardless of who wins, I think this is going to be close.

Poor, poor Eli Manning. He was ready to blow a gasket last week. Six turnovers will do that.

I got an awesome deal on our hotel room, and their response was: "You're paying THAT much?" Well, if it's his first time, I want to stay on the Strip. Beyond that, we can stay wherever.

I have been further "West" for some folks who freak out. I like California itself, but not necessarily its residents. Does that make sense? I just remember all those signs warning of the cows on the road.

I also haven't been to Vegas in four years, so it'll be interesting to see how things have changed. My parents paid for our flights and we just have to pay for our rooms. Fortunately, while we'll be doing stuff together, we won't be staying with my parents. We'd just go nuts.

But yeah, I need a vacation.

Response to: Just Raise the Minimum Wage! Posted September 13th, 2013 in Politics

In all seriousness, if we were to raise the minimum wage, how much do you think would be fair? No way to $15, but maybe there could be a sliding scale for places that are more expensive. Like, minimum wage would be a little higher in NYC than, say, Fargo.

Interesting fact: Ohio's minimum wage is higher than the federal, but it's tied to inflation.

I've just watched it, and think its a little of both. The Jets aren't flat out horrible, which I think many expected. They aren't going to break even this season, but they won't be a total walkover for most sides (somewhere in the 5-11, 6-10 bracket maybe).

I agree with you two. The game should NOT have been that close. Normally the Patriots are contenders, but unless they get a receiving core back and fast, they're quite vulnerable. For me, the game was not about how bad the Jets were, but how weak the Patriots are now. I must admit I enjoyed watching Tom Brady lose his shit. The game against Buffalo shouldn't have been as close either, actually.

The Jets aren't downright terrible, but that whole organization needs a redo, beginning with the head coach. No one else would have put up with Sanchez.

He does that very well. I'm amazed he didn't get an offsides penalty. In that case, he had to have figured out their play clock. (Coincidentally enough, that was against the Titans too.)

Lots of ACL surgery needed for the Steelers, but I don't know if the guys being operated on will make the phenomenal recovery RG3 has. I say that because I saw the documentary covering his rehab one day. The majority of it was willpower on his part. That guy has a shit ton of ambition, and I don't think very many in the NFL do.

The Bengals had their game wrapped up until they basically shit the bed. I'm not so sure how the Steelers will do against them though. Both teams make a lot of the same mistakes (excessive penalties, turnovers). In terms of QBs though, I think Roethlisberger has Dalton beat. Dalton has all the traits one looks for in a quarterback, but right now, he's just average. If he wants to make it to the big game, let alone the playoffs, he needs to step it up.
