Action Script Questions Posted July 12th, 2007 in Game Development

Hey, I am planning on making a game soon but I am quite curious in action script on how to do the following things:

1) Flash Stage Boundaries.
---- How do you action script the stage of the game, so that the character of the game, can't walk off the stage and get like...lost.

2) Random Hit Code of an Object
---- What is the code for the random falling objects?

Please help.

Thanks.

I'm hopping on the bandwagon a bit late, but I have my piece in production -- it should be done by tonight ;)

Response to: Claymation collab Posted July 11th, 2007 in Game Development

Well, since you changed some things, got some field covered -- I think you may want to redo your thread for a couple reasons.

Really no one wants to skim through thread pages to find out what to do, and what it is all about. Since you covered the speculations of the collab, just redo it in another thread. Either get a thread to delete or lock the collab, and you'll be on a fresh new start.

But your "background" shouldn't be "whatever." When you put together a collab, you usually have a basic background color so it doesn't interfere with each piece. Let's say in Flash you have "Black" as your background, and than someone else has "white" -- It won't work and it will interfere with one another.

Just a heads up in advance.
Good luck.

-Rudy

That looks cool, only I'm not sure about other people but when an animation tells me to vote 5 I imidiatly want to vote 0. Maybe thats just me though. :S

It's kind of the same for me to be perfectly honest. I don't really vote 0, but it may give us a negative output on the whole collab itself. It only really works for the bigger Newgrounds celebrities, I noticed. Maybe, write something else in the ground. It looks nice though.

Things I'd like to see though:
1) Better lava/fire stuff coming out of the ground
2) More detailed ground

That's about it. Everything is good except the fire and the ground. Thanks in advance. ;)

You can take any part, its just whoever does best with that part gets it.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I just really don't feel like competing with someone, but down the line -- I'm sure there will be more than just a few people joining now. So I guess you'll be competing with atleast "someone" in the end.

Ahh, this seems pretty sweet. I'll try to contribute something at some point soon, and pick a park that no one has yet. I'll put something to work though. I can't wait.

Good luck everyone. Let's make this worth while ;)

DAMN YOU FIREFOX!!!!

I really love using Firefox, but occasionally it does something for the fuck of it, to feel cool! I swear it does it on purpose. Everytime I may shut off my computer unexpectedly, or maybe at random points -- it randomly erases all my bookmarks! All of them! I don't even know how to get them back, besides going to the websites and adding them again [if I remember them all correctly.]

Fuck you Firefox. Fuck YOU. >:[

I regret to inform you that I will not be completing my part. The whole dominos thing takes a lot longer than many other ideas and just doesn't look that impressive. The idea itself is shoddy and not the greatest. Still, good luck with your collab and 1000 pardons. :P

Alright, it's okay. Atleast we still have Zeff's part. I'm sorry in my recent post if I sounded a bit mad or somewhat aggressive. I was just out of it. I need time to get this together, and there is such little time. So guys, please show some progress. I'll have an update on my part soon.

Response to: Is this any good? My first movie... Posted July 7th, 2007 in Game Development

There's really no point in that animation honestly. I don't really know where it is going, but it does show some potential atleast. As long as it isn't a "stick figure fight" by some random n00b, than I'm good.

Just keep practicing and don't forget to put yourself to the limit. Once you extend your boundaries, you'll be all set for a good animation. Just keep your eyes focused on the goal of perfection. Even though nothing is perfect, you can make it close to it. ;)

Response to: How should I end this cartoon? Posted July 7th, 2007 in Game Development

It shows potential but it needs work. Lots of work. Eh, I'd say trash it and start over. Get into the text books and dictionaries, spell words right, and use better grammar. Even if you're trying to use the whole "slang scenario." It's really not working.

How to end this marvelous animation you ask? Well, simple.
End it with the right click > delete.

Keep practicing though. You'll eventually get on the ball. It takes time and patiences.

No.

Okay guys, now is the time I have to take things to order and pull some strings. I have to have some demanding irrational acts, and demand some progress. So please, show me some of your guys work.

It's July 7th, we have 8 more days until the deadline, so you better get your act together or you won't make the trip home.

That's all I'm saying right now.
Thank you.

Yeah, a madness body once actually tried to rape me. Luckily, a local police officer was around and viciously beat me instead of the maniac. Soon to be, I was in jail for "harassment" and "attempt of murder." When in reality, all I was wearing was a gorilla costume doing my morning jog.

Re: Dreams about thy ReDesign of NG.com

Hah, we all are geeks in our own little way. My dream featured alot of boxy tables as well, with a light navy blue scheme. It was rather interesting. The portal was a bit flipped and looked like the rip off "Zellomesh" did. :X

1408 - The Movie.

Hm, I decided to hit the movie theatres today and I found a marvelous movie honestly. In my own personal opinion, I think this movie was rather interesting and mind-spinning. As you watch throughout the whole "Do Not Go Into Room 1408" scenario, you soon get taken away from the room itself into a mindblowing thriller. There were a few moments in the movie to make people somewhat jump and get scared, as others lured themselves out of their seats at those points. I wasn't that affected but it made me look at the movie a bit differently.

It's based on a book written by Stephen King of course. At one point in the movie, you suddenly think it's over... You think everything is better and than BAM, it takes you back into the mysterious mishaps. Oh well, I don't want to ruin the movie but it's a very good movie. I think you'd all enjoy it, if you take the time to watch it.

Discuss. :]

Weird Dreams?

I think I asked this question already. But I had yet another dream involving Newgrounds. I think I said I had a dream about going on Newgrounds and seeing something happen to the site or being banned by Luis and it said "Reason For Ban: I just don't like you." But minus the fact, last night I had another dream involving this marvelous site...Newgrounds.

It actually was the redesign. The site wasn't that different, it had the same type of dark colors but all I saw was Front Page, and the BBS. Everything was a bit darker feeling to it though. There weren't really too many yellows like there is in the BBS, and everything was gray, and somewhat black. It was really odd and different. When the redesign launches, I'll see if my dream is similiar to the actual product. Damn, I wish I had a better dream memory. Bleh.

Oh well. Discuss.

Lord-Sonx -- Please Come Home.

I'm ready to start a "Lord-Sonx Come Home" Campaign. It sounds kinda of lame, but I kinda miss him. :[ He better come back soon though, and if he doesn't it's going to leave me wondering where in the world he went.

Anyone have any information with him, and your last conversation with him? A convo log, when he logged into MSN...something? I miss that son of a bitch. He better not ditch Newgrounds. But if he does, I'd like if he atleast informs us... I'll accept it than....but not if he just...disappears. :[
