My Review:

Simply Amazing Tom. July 13, 2007
Entry: Luis Day Song Overall rating: 10
I really liked the song. I'm going to make an MP3. version for it, up for download. I'd love to hear that on my iPod. It was so freaking sweet. I swear. The song was catchy, and I really enjoyed the whole theme to it. It's better late than never, and it's worth it.

Ah, this is great. Simply Brilliant.
Keep it up.

NEW! YouTube Videos

I have recently contributed to the YouTube Community once more with a few videos I would like to share with you. These are all from my YouTube Page, by the way.

HairCut(Video Blog#1)

The first of the three videos I would like to share is a video called "Haircut." It's a based type video blog about my new hair cut, and a few things involving a few stereotypes. I look gross in it, oh well.

Change Your Mind(Video Blog#2)

This is another Video Blog I created despite of the question, "If you can change your past, would you?" It features me asking questions and explaining a few things. It runs rather slow at the peak of about 6 minutes, but I think it covers alot.

Friday The 13th
The third of the three, is called "Friday the 13th."

In this 9:30 minute long video, you'll see stupid superstitions revealed, as well with goofy acting by muah.

I'm quite the lame type when it comes to creating videos. They are unique atleast. Well, enjoy this for what its worth -- and thank you for watching!
------------------
Despite my Video Blogs, Friday the 13th seems the most interesting. Even though it's rather lengthy, I'm kinda proud on the ending product of it. I really like sharing my videos with you guys, to see what you guys think -- and what not. So please tell me your opinion on the videos.

Also to whom that may be wondering why I've been making Video Blogs:
"For some reason, I've been inspired to make a few actual SERIOUS videos involving serious questions, and stories to share with the YouTube Community and Everyone else -- You Regs. It's easier to host your work onto YouTube in the end anyways to share it with everyone. Another thing is I like discussing some topics and seeing everyone's reaction, it makes me feel rather important."

I am sad to say, I'm soon been drawn into the hole YouTube Community Era. I didn't quite want too, but I think it's easy publicity and maybe someone will notice me. Soon, I'll be hosting my animations for previews on my YouTube page, as another publicity. I like to animate and create short films, so Newgrounds is my Animation Site, as YouTube is my film site --- I guess.

Just tell me what you think.
Thanks.

Once again, somewhat I disagree with you. I don't quite think Tom Fulp is brainwashing us. Tom Fulp just made it big off of an Flash Animation based site when he was a kid, and made his old site into something extremely different. Despite the matter of hits, NG gets daily, despite all the users, I don't think Tom Fulp worries about the people getting left behind. Tom Fulp cares about everyone on the site, I believe. I think he works his hardest to make this site the way we want it, make it easier FOR US. He wants to satisfy our desires and tastes. That's exactly what he does, and he does it to the "T"

I don't think Newgrounds has gone too far. I think Newgrounds has only just begun. No matter what, Newgrounds will live on not only as a website, but a place I call "home."

I disagree with you completely. Newgrounds may be a free-based site with Users coming around for the hell of it. Some may be noobs who can't animate, some may spam, some may diss eachother and than some may make some flash animations using sticks -- but that doesn't quite make this site somewhat pitiful. Despite your observations, I don't quite think your point is fully correct. I like Newgrounds the way it is, No one is PERFECT at animating, and no one can make Flashes like Adam Phillips so easily. It takes time and effort, and when those submissions are submitted -- it's worth it in the ending.

Even though some may submit some crappy entries, it still makes Newgrounds what it is, It makes the internet what it is. Everywheres you'll find "the noob(new kid)", Everywheres you'll find "the spammer" It all depends on what you're talking about because mostly 85% of the internet will include spammers and noobs. You just can't help that. They need a home too, you know.

And now to the people making "naked anime cartoons.." I don't quite think that's a bad type of animation on the site. There is a mature section on the site for a reason, even though anyone can access it -- it is still for the mature audience looking at Newgrounds. These "Naked Anime Cartoons" are a type of style, genre, and taste of animation called "Hentai" originated in Japan, I believe. It's a type of animation, you shouldn't rid it from a site just because it's a different type, some people may like that, and if you don't than don't look at it. I'm not too fond of it, but I'm not really checking it out either, I look at what interests me.

Along with the quote of you saying:
"The only people's who's lives are really going to change are the leaders of the group and people who one awards and want to pursue a job in animating."

I am not a leader of the group, nor anything involving that but Newgrounds somewhat changed my life in a way. I don't have to be really good at animating to even be affected by Newgrounds, nor do others. It all varies in your opinion, and experience. And not everyone want to pursue a job in animating, others believe it's just a hobby of theirs they are pursuing in.

Even though a majority of the site "can't animate" doesn't make the site -- not good. I say that's what makes this site great. It has variety and score. It ranges from Awesome Animations to the shittiest animations I can whip up in 10 minutes. It all depends on what you think a good animation is as well. Newgrounds involves humor as well, along with a majority of the internet which triggers alot of Users. Even though the General forums spams with threads saying "Oh my god I raped a goat last night" or maybe even having flash submissions involving Hitler and Nazis, it still ranges in variety. It still makes Newgrounds what it is.. I say a little bit of mischief and different moods, makes this site interesting. And that's exactly why, I love Newgrounds.

Eh, It's your decision. You decide.
Discuss.

I absolutely love that feeling as well. The Redesign - Good or Bad?

The Redesign should be approaching us shortly, but what do we expect? We all had our dreams involving Newgrounds and the redesign, and we all had the annoying thoughts on what will come from the new look.. But the question here is, will the redesign be a good or bad path for Newgrounds. I'm really hoping the redesign will kick ass, and I'm sure all of you do too. I've been expecting this for quite some time, and I really can't wait to see it.

Something I wonder is what if Newgrounds turns into something like YouTube? I sure as hell hope not. I like Newgrounds for what it is, and how it's pretty original. I just hope it doesn't turn it's Author Profiles into something like this.

I really wish Newgrounds is going to be unique in their own way though, when the Profiles change -- I really hope it adds more opportunity to our work, and help us expand our creativity with our pages in our own little way. I just hope Newgrounds has something in store for us. Another thing, I'm wondering if the BBS will be changed and updated as well with the redesign? As well with the portal submissions... Will all the Portal Submissions be changed automatically? Will more features for the submissions be added? How about the voting system, batting average, and whistle points be scored out? Is this all going to change? I'm going crazy thinking about what's going to happen -- I guess we just have to wait for redesign to just come, and our questions will be answered.

Hopefully, this redesign will turn more than a few heads.

There's Camtasia, but it isn't free. Although they did come up with a free alternative called CamStudio.

Hm, seems to me -- everytime I tried screen recorders, they tend to mess with the quality, make gradiants look really ugly, plus make the animation choppy. I don't know, it may just be the program, but the ugly watermark in the corner isn't a prize either to add to the whole animation.

Newgrounds.com -- Has to be one of the site that maybe has to change alot of lives. Newgrounds has taken a very high rating of extraordinary animations and games, along with alot of new ideas to share amongst other animators.

I'm quite curious, where do you think you'd be without Newgrounds? Like seriously, this site all started when Tom Fulp hosted a website in his parent's basement at the age of 13. That was just the mear beginning, it isn't even near the tip of the iceberg yet. Despite, the redesign approaching us -- this is pretty amazing on how much was accomplished, in such little time.

No matter what, I believe Newgrounds had to change many lives. As an animator, I know it has changed mine. As a kid, around the age of 11 or so -- I'd surf the internet playing online games, watching animations and whatnot until one day I found Newgrounds.com. Not knowing this will be my future internet home and hobbie, I browsed the pages, and watched many animations plus played many games. Such as Dad N' Me and even Bitey of Brackenwood . That was just the beginning of my experience here. After searching the pages of NG, looking at their exclusive content and collections of games and animations, I decided "I want to do this someday."

Soon after that time in my life, around September of 2004 I downloaded a trial of Flash MX 2004 Professional from the Official Adobe Website. At first of opening the program, I had no idea on what to do with it -- I ditched the program, and just closed it immediately and told myself "wow, this is too hard for me. I can't do this." Months later, I tried my second attempt at the program... Leading me to January 2005, and I created a account on Newgrounds, as "-Rudy-" After, the epic start of my beginning, I started asking questions on how to work the program, and I looked at tutorials such as _Ultimate Tutorial_ and Flashforbeginners:sprites. I soon shitted out some crappy submission based off of a comic series, I made as a kid called "The Adventures of Dan." I decided to submit it to Newgrounds, with it's crappy sound quality and voice acting by me, along with the horrible animation...It got banned. With Newgrounds rude comments and reviews on the animation, it soon saddened me -- but hey I didn't give up. I got back into Flash and made Zelda Behind the Scenes around May of 2005. It didn't do that good on Newgrounds, but it did pass.

I kept making Flash animations, and somehow It got me to where I am today. I've been around on Newgrounds for quite sometime, It's not as long as some users, such as "Luis" or maybe even, "Pimp(the only user on Level 30)" but I have left my mark -- somehow, someway, I tried to leave my mark at my greatest. Soon in the future, I expect to submit more of my work onto Newgrounds, and somewhat make myself known. I don't mind if I'm ever known, but it's always nice to get Front Page once in a while, or maybe even an award.

This is my story about how Newgrounds changed my life, in somewhat of a positive way. Without Newgrounds, where would I be right now? What would I be doing? Would I even of gotten into Flash Animation? -- Probably not. I guarantee you that I wouldn't of even starting animating if it wasn't for Newgrounds. And I assume that some of you are the same way. So go on, tell your story on how Flash Animating and Newgrounds changed your life.

Honestly, where would you be without Newgrounds and Flash Animations? Tell me that one, because I really honestly don't even know what I'd be doing. If Newgrounds wasn't around, where would everyone that surfs it be? Some other site? I really don't quite know, that's why I'm asking you guys to share your opinion. Discuss your stories, and maybe your past on how Newgrounds and Flash animations changed your life, or somehow set a mark in your lifestyle. Just share your stories, and opinions. Discuss with one another on where you might be without Newgrounds...

Where would I be, you ask? I think I'd be lost, doing something stupid with my friends.. Out of the drawing habit, and probably onto some other non-productive hobby. All I know is that I'm glad Newgrounds is around. It's up to you on what you think. So share your thoughts and discuss.

Thank you.

This thread may be pointless, and I decided to not put this in general for a few reasons, that it's spam and boring there. I'd rather keep it in the Flash Forums.
Damn, I said Newgrounds so many times. x]
Response to: co-authoring double-standard? Posted July 13th, 2007 in Game Development

Well, after reading the responses and what not, I believe Scenario 1 SHOULD be less flamed. Just because a Sponsor signs a check of whatever money, shouldn't get co-authored to a certain game or animation. The reason because is that all they are doing is just contributing maybe a profitable rate to animator/actionscripter or whomever made this game.

I think a Intro advertising the sponsors site is good enough in the submission. Even a 125X125 banner is fine in the corner of the submission. As long as it's there, it may get someone's attention rather than just being co-authored. If I was sponsored, I probably wouldn't co-author the company that provided that sponsor towards me for one reason -- They didn't create the idea, they didn't create the game, NOR did they contribute anything besides a check to fund us for our development labor.

They make enough money off of our work, when people visit THEIR site just because we let them use our work on their site as well. It's your call though. I still wouldn't co-author someone if they contributed a idea to me either, I'd just maybe have a thank you note in the description text, or maybe even the credits.

Do you guys think I should co-author ReVengeance because he contributed to my game today, when I was having a struggle in my actionscript? Just because he helped me a bit as he helped me fix the broken action script, does he deserve co-authorship? How about the people that respond in threads you create asking for help on some action script or even criticism on your artwork, do they deserve a co-authoring spot just because they contributed atleast something to your work?

All I know is that they deserve it more than a Sponsor, since they are contributing something atleast to the piece. Yet, I am still against my theories and beliefs with them getting a spot just because of doing so. All I do know is that they do deserve it more than a sponsor does. I'm not saying that it's truely the right way to handle things, but it's a thought.

It's on your part for this conversation. You decide which is right and wrong.

Great topic idea, Luis.
I'm out.

Despite the lock of the thread for Luis Day, I'll show you little regs my little game I made for it.

Luis - Catch a Taco!

About Game: Recommended in LOW Quality for best results and gameplay!

Hello Newgrounds, It's me Rudy and my fellow Actionscripter Cheektoghetto and I would like to bring to you guys this very small interactive game, we whipped up for the holiday. (Luis Day 2007.)

Even though it's about 30 minutes late from the original day, we tried our best to bring this to you guys. It took about a couple hours of work. The reason it was a bit delayed was the whole "action script" mess up -- we faced alot. After plenty of reattempts to fix the codes, I got ReVengeance to lend a hand and helped me pull through, as Cheektoghetto randomly left me in the process of making this.

Despite the hours of work, we bring you "Luis - Catch a Taco!" In this game you control Luis using the two arrow keys (LEFT) and (RIGHT) and help him catch the tacos. Your goal is to reach the 3,000 limit for it to take you to the WINNING SCREEN! But here's the catch, despite the amount of the Tacos you CAN die if you loose all of your lives. (4) to be exact, which will result to you at the GAME OVER screen.

It's a pretty easy game, but it's what it is. Thank you for everything. And last but not least, HAPPY LUIS DAY!!!!

Thank you guys. :D

Response to: Quick As Question (please Help !!) Posted July 12th, 2007 in Game Development

Real quick update, sorry for double post. I fixed the movement on my own. Sorry.

I rechecked the character actionscript and changed where it said _x. += 12 and made it -=
and where it said -=, i made it +=.

The thing I really need help on is the action script to change it to the certain scene, after it hits 3,000 points and if it looses 4 lives.

Hey, I am creating my game and I desperately need help since my Action Scripting Partner had to go.

The code is this:

var score = 0
var lives = 200
stop ();

if (_root.score >= 3000) {
gotoAndPlay("Scene 10");}
if (_root.lives <= 1) {
gotoAndPlay("Scene 11");}

Everything is working fine in the game, but for some reason, after getting 3,000 points in the game it just continues the scene, and doesn't go to Scene 10 for the ending "WINNING" screen. Same applies for If you run out of lives, it doesn't go to scene 11 for the Game over Screen.

Another thing that is a bit screwey is the character movement. My character, "Luis" is currently moving in a different direction than told too.

Here's the code:

onClipEvent (load) {
var MoveSpeed = 12;
var hit = false;}

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
this._x += 12;
this.gotoAndStop(2);}
if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
this._x -= 12;
this.gotoAndStop(2);}}

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
if (this.hitTest(_root.bar1)) {
this._x -= 12;}
if (this.hitTest(_root.bar2)) {
this._x += 12;}}

When I click the right key, he goes left, and when I click the left key, he goes right.

Please tell me what's going on in the script.
Thank you.
