How about INSTEAD of Pico day, you rename it Newgrounds Day? Then you can use everything on THAT day.

That may be cool.

I can't agree more. I can't even count how many Blams I've lost because I've held to that motto and people are voting to pass Flash that is absolute crap. 0 is my vote unless on the very RARE occasion one actually had some thought and it made me laugh. Then it might get a 2.

I liked the days where I got more Blams than Protects. Now they are somewhat close to the same, but protects are slightly higher. BOOOO!!!

Hey, Wade. What about people who use alts to get around the 2 Flash uploaded per day?

I see that a LOT. Especially in those spammy-type groups.

Response to: Getting banned.. Posted January 22nd, 2008 in General

Well, if you are banned aren't they banning YOU from posting?

Getting around a ban by using an alt is cheating the system and rendering the mods useless.

If you get banned you just need to take your medicine and return when you are no longer banned.

Also, check out that Fleek dude (read 'idiot') and anything submitted on Clock Day where he used tons of alts to submit over 100 Flash in one day ON HIS OWN as well as Milfreds who did the same thing on the same day. Looks like you already got fr0ks, too which is great. Of course, these may all be the same person, who knows? (You do)

Trust me, it was a beautiful game. By the Giants. Aside from a single 90 yard TD play from the Packers (Favre to Driver), Green Bay struggled on offense; during the 3rd quarter, the network showed a stat - "1 play - 90 yards; 26 other plays - 91 yards". But with the Giants missing 2 game winning field goals, the game went into overtime. There, the Giants intercepted Bret on the first play (outside of kickoff) of the OT, then drove down to the 20 yard line, giving Tynes a 36 yard chance at redemption. And he found redemption, and a ticket to Arizona for the Super Bowl.

The Pack played like crap. The whole time I watched I kept saying they were playing like crap and that the 90 yd TD was a stroke of luck. At halftime I felt that the Giants had the game even though it was still very close.

The Giants played alright... not great by any means. 2 missed field goals to top it off? Can't be doing that in the Super Bowl, pals.

At least the super bowl is being shown in the UK.
That is a good thing.

Good, you can watch the Pats march to victory.

Just please, please, don't let the Patriots win- the Giants are on a roll of upsets, just one more...

Stop hating, Sentio. Stop hating. I'd rather see any team win that doesn't have a Manning in it.

Hey, 10 straight road wins. I think the Giants can win 1 more.

Yeah, well, the Pats have won 18 and lost none, so... yeah.

even as a Broncos fan I was willing the Chargers to beat them today, damn LT being injured, they might have stood a chance if those field goals had been TDs instead.

Hater... Drink some more Hater-ade why-don't-cha!

Hopefully our international cries for a Giants win will be heard by the football gods, and answered.

They are pretty outmatched, man, but it should be a good game. All Patriot Super Bowl wins have been great games decided by 3 points each. This will probably be no different.

And Viper, don't be so hard on APF and his Jets; I mean, they did have one of their best years in recent history....

Ok, I read the whole thing and it does look like a cool idea, but that is a lot of random things to keep track of. It not being as easy as looking at a profile will be difficult on department heads and the list keepers not to mention each individual member now having to keep track of their own stats to make sure they are having everything they report being counted.

Telling Dept Heads about things will help, but it would still be somewhat confusing. If the club grows (which I hope it will) then there will be an absolute TON of information to keep track of not only between updates, but always.

I think it's a noble idea, but putting it into action would probably be difficult, tedious and confusing.

Just making a series doesn't get you a series tab. It has to be a recognized series by a lot of people, do well in the portal and generally score very well.

I just checked out your series (which is 5, not 7 movies plus a game). I see you put work into it, but the graphics are really bad and the average score is under 3.00. I don't see that being made into a series without getting way better graphics at the very least.

Use this series to practice and get better. Once you're at a point where people are recognizing you, start another series.

At 1/15/08 05:40 PM, AnalPenguinFarming wrote: We just simply have contests. If you look back to the old NGDD pages there were things like "missions" for opportunities to rank up through the club. life gave me an example of this a long time ago so I'm going to use his. A higher ranking member posts up a Mission like "By Wednesday everyone has to get 10 bps and 10 Reviews, mission worth 5 XR." Everyone who does the mission gains XR. Some missions will have XR penalties for not doing it, but most won't.

Well, if this were to go into place there would have to be missions in every aspect of the NGDD. Like Flash missions, Audio, etc or it wouldn't be fair to those in other departments.

I like the missions idea, but not only using mission/rewards. It could be a cool thing to have as another thing we do here.

In regards to current members, we'll all be given a set amount of XR so that everyone isn't starting all over again as equals with 0 points. Department Heads will obviously get a decent amount, as will admins, but members of departments will gain a medium amount, and members on probation or just coming out will obviously get a smaller amount.

This would be pretty tough to do and be fair at the same time. Very tough.

Yea, this may have flaws, but I'm throwing down my idea. It's simple and we don't have to worry about anything too ridiculous, and it's an easier job on the listkeeper than calculating XR for every single member every week.

Not sure how easy doing that would be for a list keeper if they have to keep up with multiple missions.

This way we aren't just a club that goes out on our seperate ways all the time to get stats, but instead a close knit group just looking to have fun in a competitive manner.

It's a cool idea, but again, I don't think it should be all we do.

Again I apologize if this idea or variations of it were made, please don't yell at me, but I just wanted to get this idea out there just in case it hadn't been brought up yet.

I AM GOING TO YELL AT YOU!!!! ;-)

Oh I know YOU are not a simpleton, I don't doubt your skills of observation at all, I was merely marking upon the fact that our current rank is much more qualitative and takes into consideration the fact that when you reach a certain level there's no such thing as knowing more or less, in this case acheiving nine ranks.

Right, but then you must choose a direction to go. With a different system you can just focus on what you like to do and still benefit and accelerate ranks without being held to an "and you need to do this" situation.
So basically one does what he pleases to get XR points, in this logic two people from the portal department can acheive the same rank one by doing his portal duty and the other by just posting around and a lucky deity whistle.

Well, no because posts wouldn't count inside the portal department because of the two tier system. Basically two types of XR. Overall XR to achieve the NGDD rank (things like Grande, Beginner, etc) and the departmental XR which is only things that apply to your department.

So, using that a Portal person would rank up in the portal department ONLY by doing portal things. So, say they made Warrant Officer I. And another person in Portal is a Staff Sergeant. In the department the Warrant Officer I would outrank the Staff Sergeant.

But, here's the kinda' cool part about the multi tier system. If the Staff Sergeant also makes Flash and has a lot of posts, they may have the rank of "Expert" and the Warrant Officer I may have the rank of "Amateur."

They would be an Expert Staff Sergeant and an Amateur Warrant Officer. (I used Expert and Amateur as pure demo reasons as these ranks have not been established yet)

Actually there was a choice. There was a choice to keep it. It was voted unanimously to remove it.
Let me rephrase that, was there another reforming choice? Of course let me add that I am not doubting someone's skill in coming up with ideas, nor accusing of dictatorship, only marking the fact that since everyone else is in favor of the reform and that was the only reformist choice, there was no other choice...

There was no other choice. I actually personally pushes for people to come up with other choices and I even tried a few others that I didn't like so never posted. I wanted more ideas put into the thread and not to only have my own to choose from.

You see? That's where our effort should be focused, how to improve the DD, but we need to improve what needs improving and I just made some research and found out that that "uselss" payroll system atleast was at some point exchangeable for newgrounds store credits, or something like that, I think something like that is worth keeping...

It is for exchanging NG Store Credit, but it was almost nothing and there was this odd symbol (§) that stood for a small sum of money (I want to say 0.05 US cents to 1 §, but I think it was even less.) Because no one really understood it and it was so little it basically just became a stat no one understood.

It was never perfect and I think that became obvious when it was brought up that change needed to happen and everyone agreed.
I repeat myself , how has it suddenly become flawed you told me it did,I ask how? why?

Ok, I am going to go thru the flaws of the system in-place. This is going to get long, so I apologize.

The BBS system is alright except the highest rank requires you have made another club which I find an odd requirement.

The Flash Department's requirements are off. It requires 10 Flash submissions and a BA of A+. Let me be the 1st to tell you this is not hard at all. Reason it's not hard is because your BA is only off of your highest scoring 3 Flash and an A+ is only a 3.50 or higher average. This is a piece of cake. It also requires a portal award and Daily 5th isn't the hardest thing to achieve especially if you jump into a collab.

So, with Flash once you achieve that, you're stuck. You have capped out and quick.

Audio Department is purely based on amount of submissions and Audio reviews. Personally, I don't know why Audio Reviews is here, but I also don't think an amount of submissions should be the basis of ranks when it comes to something where quality is the importance (Like Flash and Audio).

Portal Department has the most problems. The way it is built is in a cookie-cutter fashion where you have to fit into a pre-created criteria in order to achieve rank. If you don't care to whistle, you will be stuck at 3 ranks forever. Well, until you get level 28 (which jumps you from level 3 to level 6) which is also an odd requirement. Same goes for if someone only likes just doing 1 thing, like B/P.

For that example I give you Phantom who in this system would only have 7 ranks since he has only 405 Flash reviews and a gold whistle. It takes his 60,000 B/P and reduces them to the 15,000 B/P requirement of the 7th rank. I personally don't see how that's right. Luckily for him he's the leader of that dept, but someone else not in that position is getting screwed. Because he's focused on one thing he loved, B/P, he couldn't climb higher without going for Deity.

So, this is where that whole XR idea came from. I wanted to make a system that rewarded people for doing what they really liked doing as well as rewards for contests and time in.

I'm not saying that XR system is perfect, but I do feel it's the most fair and I think it would be a lot of fun to use.

I wish I could go into more detail, but I'm at work and time has become short. Back to the grind for me... =(

The system that is in place now has been there for quite some time and looking at the roster I can tell you this: We aren't growing.
Are we diminishing in numbers?

Well, we are increasing in inactive numbers and not really gaining anyone new, so I'd say yes we are diminishing.

Also, APF, I like the new idea of the Department Heads thing. I'd type more, but my lunch break is over. =)
