That all looks good for the most part. Can't say I disagree with anything in particular except maybe that the Portal Dept requires you to be in another crew as well.
Maybe no cussing in the final version though, eh? More professional-looking that way.

Just don't get a Dell, whatever you do.
Macs are alright... you won't have Vista issues, either but there's a saying I like about Macs. "Macs: Because no one gives a shit."
IBM Compatible machines are still king. Macs get a lot of good press, but for no real good reason.
HP has a lot of good stuff. With less than 2 grand you can get a really good machine. You can also upgrade their machines unlike a Dell where you would have to buy THEIR parts to upgrade which is extremely expensive.
Awesome. So it looks like 8 good changes are going to be made so far and maybe people will come up with some other, new things as well.
I think rank structure will be the most difficult yet most important to come up with, but I know I'm excited to see these changes all get put into motion once everything is ready.
Once again, I'll be here if anyone needs help with anything.

This is what the initiaion period is for anyway. SO having an initiation for 30 days AND 100 post count is like double jeopardy. Since we already make people wait, why make them wait more?
My vote is yes.

Yes, I agree. If someone is lower than 2.50, but it's obvious they are trying to make Flash and not just making junk I don' tsee why they can't join the NGDD.
Yayness.
At 1/5/08 05:19 PM, deslona wrote: XP should not be the same as your rank or money, these two things should be seperate of course.
I don' tthink they should be seperate at all since I don't feel like there should be a money system. In fact, almost all votes so far were to get rid of that payment system.
XP COULD be used as a way to 'buy' a rank... That may be more fair. But still the amount of XP you get is the same as you contribute to the club. You shouldn't get more XP from just being a higher rank. The Higher rank is recognition that you are/were a hard working member.
I think you misunderstand a little.
You don't get XP by being a higher rank, you get higher XP ranks with XP. Buying a rank would be the same as earning XP towards a rank as well. If you have the XP, you get the rank. Same thing.
Also with that in mind, higher ranking members (Officers) when discharged due to inactivity can be reactivated with no penalty to their rank (But lose XP)
I think any discharger should be a case-by-case basis, but it there was no good reason for someone to be gone, they start over on the XP scale. Don't forget, if posts, review, whistes, Flash, etc count towards XP, that person will have XP already anyway.
Comments anyone?

Yeah, this is already done, but it's so little and really not used anyway, so it's almost pointless. I mean, people aren't going to want to dish out tons of cash to make the NGDD go all the time so the payment system is faulty.
Plus, no one really uses it. I see it more of a stat, this is why I suggested the XP system.
------------
Also still waiting on life on why XP is a bad idea. If the fear is people spamming this or that for XP, I think that can be avoided by the fact if someone's doing that it will be so obvious.
I mean, the way we do it now is basically XP. We just call it ranks. Adjusting how we gain XP is probably needed right now since some people specialize in one area and others do everything.

7.) There needs to be a way for lower ranking members of the club to move from their lower rank to a much higher ranking without having to just stay here and post. These are known as contests and missions. The way that I personally worked out that they would run works out so that all department heads get a chance to earn some points and rank up themselves. Here is that method:
There is a minimum of 2 contests/missions a month held by two different departments. Each department is in charge of 1 contest to make it less work on each other. The 2 departments will rotate every month.
The Internal Affairs Department MUST HOST at least 1 contest a month, as it is their job to hold contests each month in the first place. HOWEVER, if the contests run smoothly for each department for the first 4 months or so, I, AnalPenguinFarming, will hold a massive contest with real life prizes for winners, such as Newgrounds T-shirts and stickers!!! W00t!!!!
HAHA. I took so long to write my last post 2 people posted.
Anyway, I like the contest for points idea. It makes them make sense in the scheme of the club itself, I think.
I do think, however, that if Internal Affairs has to hold one contest a month that only one other department should have to hold a contest unless, of course, another would LIKE to hold a contest and gets permission to do so.
This way we aren't overrun with contests. Too many contests may lower interest over time and also may make it tough to keep track.
And of course I like the T-Shirt and Stickers idea. That could be cool.
Now, obviously at the original page we can't see the original because we need to pay to get on the site, but I think it's pretty damned obvious it comes from there since the STOLEN one has the HENTAIKEY.COM opening.

Well, with the new changes there would be no paycheck, so XP is only used to increase your XP rank. So, no one has to pay anything out.
Also, it would make sense that you get a decent amount per month so you are rewarded for time in the club. 10XP may not even be enough. Maybe 20XP or 25XP would be better.
Flash: I would imagine score should matter in some way here. Flash under 2.00 = 0XP. 2.00 - 2.99 = 10XP. 3.00 - 3.49 = 15XP. 3.50 - 3.99 = 25XP. 4.00 - 5.00 = 35XP, maybe even 40XP since this is somewhat tough.What happens if a user with many 'spam' flashes chooses to join? I think only flash with a score over 2.50 after ONE WEEK of passing should be rewarded.
I would actually hope the NGDD would frown on anyone making spam flashes and spamming the portal. Especially since that's basically the total opposite for what I feel we stand for.
If you ask me, Portal Spammers should not be aloud to join and if someone starts spamming while in the NGDD they need to be held accountable immediately.
Audio would be somewhat similar to Flash, but the points would be less since Audio is generally much higher in score and not many people vote on them.Agreed. But some members contribute more than others. People that contribute TO THE CLUB should be rewarded too. The amount would be judged by their peers here.
Reviews should also have separate XP and I feel like I'm leaving something out but I can't think of it, but I am pretty sure this gives a rough idea.
Plus, doing it like this makes it so you can just keep going up in XP. You won't hit some cap and feel there's nothing left in the NGDD to accomplish.
Rank structure needs retooling. I think ranks should go by what order you are in the Department by XP, but for hitting XP Milestones you get another title.
Right, I agree. I was actually thinking about this and maybe even make it so there is an award system of some sort. Like, if you constantly do things for the club like running a contest, making the list, you get XP as well or are awarded special XP.
Example: 2nd in the Department is Lieutenant with the restructure (JUST an example), but with 1,000XP you also get the title of "Grande". So, you would be a Grande Lieutenant if you are in 2nd command in your dept with 1,000XP.I would like to see a list of the ranks and the points for each 'level', it sounds good and fair.
Yeah, there would need to be a list, of course.

Ah, yes. This is kind of what I was trying to get out I just couldn't word it right.
And I think calling it XP would be a cool idea since that's a lot of what NG is about, plus it's very NOT confusing.
And I think each part of NG should count separately for XP gained. Like whistles separate, reviews, BBS Posts, etc. Everyone in any department can gain XP from everything, but they would be in their department because that is what they actively DO on Newgrounds.
A rough idea I had would be:
Each month 10 pts XP added for being in NGDD. If discharged, you start over at 0. Maybe even a bonus of 20 to 50 for each year you're active.
Contest would award 1XP for participating, 2XP 3rd place, 3XP 2nd place, 5XP 1st place. Or make it slightly different per contest. Small contests, no participation XP.
Whistles: -20 Garbage, 0 normal, +5 Bronze, +10 Silver, +20 Gold, +40 Deity
BBS Posts: Each 100 posts = 10XP
Flash: I would imagine score should matter in some way here. Flash under 2.00 = 0XP. 2.00 - 2.99 = 10XP. 3.00 - 3.49 = 15XP. 3.50 - 3.99 = 25XP. 4.00 - 5.00 = 35XP, maybe even 40XP since this is somewhat tough.

Again, that is all rough above. It would need adjusting, I'm sure but I wanted to get it down before it slipped my mind at all.

Actually, that is now different than it was. It WAS BigFuzzyKitten posting the Flash and then he somehow made a workaround and coauthored M-Bot, P-Bot and all the actual NG Bots.
Now for some reason all authors are missing.
Also, I did a search on BigFuzzyKitten's flash and he has very few now. I'm wondering if a hammer was dropped or if he's doing it to all his Flash. Either way, I didn't see anything else after the letter "D" when I looked.
At 1/5/08 12:30 AM, AnalPenguinFarming wrote: 4.) Removal of the payroll system, because honestly none of us understand it, and it is benefitting any of us.
Yes, by all means get rid of it. I always thought it was a cool idea to have in theory, but in reality it just isn't all that great, unfortunately. It's mostly overlooked.
5.) Having a high ranking in the NGDD actually has to mean something. Instead of just having the high ranking and doing nothing, all members (even those in the lowest ranks) will have some kind of duty to contribute. Nothing ridiculous that you can't do, but enough that we can know you're still somewhat active.
Small duties make sense. Obviously as you would go up you accept more responsibility. Either that or responsibility should reap some sort of reward (especially for our list caretakers).
Powers are what you're allowed to do in your department, whereas duties are what you need to do to stay a member. (life)
Si, senor.
6.) A new ranking system will be implemented, where all new members obviously start at the bottom, and the older members will still be "high ranking," but placed somewhere in the middle of the ranks so that they have opportunities to rank up from competitions and missions. The competitions and devotion to the club will be the newest ways of ranking up, how long a member has been here will be irrelevant if they aren't contributing.
I like the idea of rewards for competitions for ranking up.
I still feel leaders need to be at the top, obviously, but the rank # structure should be all-encompassing. If you are in BBS dept and have Flash and whatnot, you get those ranks as well. Someone under a leader may have more ranks than the leader, but the leader is obviously there for a reason and they accepted that position.
I think this idea overall is good, but it definitely needs a lot more thought put into it before making it happen. I can help if needed.

So instead of having an exterior forum that we only use for member information, we might as well get rid of it and use an "NGDD" user which we can refer to for the latest updates in news, contests, and memberlists.
Conveniently enough for us, life created this user along with the new NGDD forum he first came up with, so we can use it as our "NGDD 'Robot'"
Good idea. The NGDD Robot can be kept between the higher-ups or whoever is assigned "the list." It's also easier than using an off-site forum that people don't generally remember.
3.) Since there is a lack in commitment from the Audio department members up until recently, instead of splitting the Audio Department and the Flash Department into two, we combine the departments to form the "Artists Department." This way it will be easier for the members to work together between making music for each other, as well as learning proper flash/audio styles.
I actually agree.
The Audio Department has little or no activity in it. I actually think it keeps people from joining it at times because the leader isn't even around and neither are the two other members. Right now, it's useless.
Combining the Flash and Audio together makes sense. I think it also opens doors to artists who do neither as there are artists who love photo shopping in the Art Forum and THAT'S what they do on NG. We don't even recognize those people yet there are constant NG-Sponsored Contests involving them.
I'd rather not keep them separate "just because" you know?
