2.) FORGET EVERYTHING YOU JUST LEARNED CUZ WE DOIN CARTOONZ NOW; in other words, keep anatomy in your mind, but since this is cartoons and visual story telling, we need to use what we know the rules about anatomy so we can break them
3.) "The Animator's Survival Kit" - Read this book, you have to :

4.) Practice each of the 12 principles of animation found here <- don't over look this shit, it's important, i put it here for a reason :

I was pissed off when I, much like yourself, joined here and was told to "practice, Practice, PRACTICE", and that's all anyone said. But like, I was hungry for that knowledge and I sought it out. I found this site called http://11secondclub.com and they've got some good resources there, mostly for 3D artists, but this is a good practice thread none the less :

Anyway, so basically you're gonna do all that shit for about 6 months and totally suck at it for most of that time, but if you work really hard you will come out of that six months a much better animator. Set small goals for yourself, try different moods, different characters, just try a shit load of stuff until it works for you.
Another thing I would say is, like, copy people who you admire. Don't straight up steal it, but if you like Egoraptor, copy his style. Copy the fuck out of it. And other people too. You like Ren & Stimpy? Copy John K. Copy all of the styles you admire and don't worry about stealing their work or anything. As long as you don't trace it, you're probably going to inherently add your own spin on your work. The more you emulate other artists you really admire, the more you will find reason behind what they do. When you learn a lot about the anatomy of the head for instance, you learn why they put that little line above the eye in anime, it's to represent the top eyelid.
Practice is really key here, I know you're ambitious and you just wanna start going for it, but really take some time to learn all of this stuff because it's NOTHING LIKE ILLUSTRATION.
Dude, I remember how frustrated I got when my stuff wasn't working. I guess I was too eager and just dove right in.
In fine art, you can make a lot of mistakes, and since most people aren't artistic, they're like, "Well that's good cause I can't do better" and in fine art your mistakes can be left up to artistic interpretation, but like, in animation, you can definitely have WRONG drawings. If it doesn't work, it's wrong.
I could go on and on, so I'm gonna stop. Good luck!
little tid-bit for an upcoming parody
Hi there,
I've mostly been lurking newgrounds and making animations in my spare time. I finally put together a piece from start to finish. I hope to hear some feedback from you guys, also I hope you enjoy it!
