Ugh, Macs. There a lot of reasons I don't like them. First of all is the people associated with them. Every single Mac user I know takes every single opportunity possible to declare why you should be in fact using a Mac. Nearly every one seems to be extremely influential too, and has a Mac to be 'creative and unique'. Yet at least 75% of Mac desktops looks exactly the fucking same. On that note, so does every Apple product, it's the same unoriginality on various sizes of device.
The OS itself is pretty terrible once you get over the aesthetics of it, it's extremely impractical. All the glossy effects have gotten in the way of practicality, and pretty much shut off any sense of being in control of what goes on. The amount of 3rd party software available is pretty limited, which isn't really encouraging when you're trying to find a solution to a problem. The look and feel can't be changed beyond changing the wallpaper and moving the dock about. The only proper theme I've ever come across was some hideous looking green-beige thing which reminds me of John McCririck for some reason.
The major reason Macs are popular with some people is that Adobe release most of their programs for OSX, which appeals to the art college students, who seem to make up a large chunk of the userbase (probably linked to what I said about being influential).
The hardware is pretty awful once you get over the looks, it's very hard to upgrade components due to a few modifications to the hardware that seem to specifically prevent the user installing new hardware without paying Apple some horrendous price. And Apple's mouse design must be one of the worse I've ever seen. After the initial problems caused by only having one button, they now seem to be designed for people with no fingers at all.
And don't get me started on the pricing...
graarghghrhg I needed a good rant
