Won't happen. Not only is it unconstitutional but after checking alot of articles on the internet, the overwhelming majority of people on the web don't want it. Even the president wont let it pass because if he does he won't get re-elected.

Need help with a button Posted December 6th, 2010 in Game Development

I'm trying to figure out the code to make a button take me to a specific frame when I click on it.

this is the code that I've figured out so far

myButton.onRelease = function(){
// do something
}

Not sure exactly what to do with it. Also I have no Idea where to put the code. Currently looking up some good tutorials. Any advice will be appriciated.

Let's talk about $$$ for Newgrounds Posted September 1st, 2010 in General

I've uploaded some animations to ng and made some cash just by signing up for profit sharing, and without using the NG API thingie.

I'm curious. Does that make your revenue go up? How much? What would be the best way of using it? Does it track for how many times you see it in the flash or just how many clicks it gets?

I know that JUST using profit sharing doesn't make much but I'm just curious if there's an improvement.

I guess I just want someone to explain how it all works...

Thanks for responding!

Illustrator for Iphone/pad app Posted July 16th, 2010 in General

I have a guy who wants me to do illustrations for his ipod app he's coming out with.

it's a maze game

I'm kind of in the dark as to what the illustrator should be paid. Should it be 10 percent? More? I know these things can make alot of money. I'm not really interested in making a lot, I just want what's fair.

What do you think?

Lip sync program Posted July 2nd, 2010 in Animation

I've been looking up some of these lipsync addons for flash and I wanted to ask more experienced animators:

I've noticed some very sharp lipsyncing out there. Is there a program that does it automatically or something?

I'm currently figuring out the ins and outs of submitting my content and I've run into an issue. I'm trying to get credit to the two voice actors, but there's no button to add credits under the author credits thing.

How do I add author credits?

But I will mention it in my series, to give it a little bit of publicity.
People! Please support this series. It's a good series and will be even better if you join.

Sorry for not being any help though. I hope I can join one day.

This sort of thing, especially being sprites, doesn't need a team of animators. This is a project you CAN and SHOULD do on your own. You probably won't get much respect that way anyway (its sprites, eh), but doing things this way is shameful and you certainly will get my evil glare.
You should find the patience and motivation to attain some animation skills and animate this on your own, then submit it and see how you do. No need to bloat this thing like its some multimillion dollar production.

Hey bro,

I totally respect your opinion. You're one of the original Sprite Guys and I've always enjoyed your work.

I enjoy working with other people. Not only that but every animation studio, and pretty much every other avenue of human activity under the sun involves people working with one another. The process of making the first two episodes thus far has been fun, but the part that was the MOST fun was working with the other people involved. And it's like 100x easier to sit down at the computer and work knowing that I don't have to shoulder the whole load.

If you want to solo your stuff, I totally respect that. I just know how easy it is for things to fall through when I'm going solo. : )

-Sort of-

One of the animators I've brought on enjoys making interesting backgrounds and particular elements
like it, but doesn't necessarily want to animate characters and dialogue and whatnot so he's coming on as a designer. I have another guy who I'm talking to who is an ace -one of the best- at doing dynamic drama scenes and that'll be what he generally animates. I myself enjoy doing innovative scenes that I like to call 'money shots' or short parts that are carefully designed and interesting. Everyone has thier own gift.

As for writing, all of the plot has been written out for a few years now.

Looking for Sprite Animators:

With the completion of Episodes 1 and 2 of my Sprite Series and the near-completion of episode 3 I've come to the realization that if I'm going to succeed in getting the whole story told, I'm going to give some other animators a share of the credit. The whole story is written out.

Check out these episodes and if this looks like something you might enjoy being involved in then read on (be sure to check out the extras) :

They currently haven't been released on the portal as episode 2 is still waiting for it's file size limit removal.

PROJECT INFO

SPRITES! is a shameless homage to the long standing young animator's tradition of making a short animation with characters from various video games. If you've been on Newgrounds for any length of time you've no doubt come across one. My contribution to Sprite Art will be incorporating Voice Actors and that means YOU. The story begins in Crono's world from the old game Chrono Trigger, one year after the last night of the Millenial Fair. A sudden twist of fate sends our silent protagonist into a whirlwind of danger and adventure.

HOW IT WILL WORK

It's time to embrace the future. This project will be done in ,what I call, an I-studio. We all work collaborativeley in our own work-space and produce this animation in the fashion that Walt Disney made his early animations. I suppose some might think this information isn't necessary, but I want you to know what you're getting yourself into.

STEP 1- Story Boarding
If you are brought on as an animator, you will receive an email with a .fla that storyboards an entire episode. In the email you will be assigned what scenes, shots, fightscenes, ect to animate. Each animator gets to see the whole episode played out so we understand the context of every moment of the episode.

STEP 2- Voice Acting
I've already brought on an excellent cast of voice actors and they will work apart from us animators. They will receive their scripts and directions and will send in their recordings via email before the deadline.

STEP 3-Animation
I, along with the other animators, will animate our assigned clips before the deadline. Once these clips are complete, the .fla's will be sent in for editing.

(if I may for a moment: I will not be animating all the fun scenes and making everyone else do the "boring stuff". For my part I will mostly be working on the dialogue scenes and some bits and pieces to make the project as a whole more fluid. Some of you will be brought on specifically for your skill in a certain area (design, action, overall balance)

STEP 4-Sound
After the episode is completeley visualized, sound will be placed in. This includes all music, sound effects and voice acting.

STEP 5-Editing
Now that all the ingredients are placed, the final cut will be made, and the final copy will be backed up and secured. It is now in the can!

STEP 6-Critique
With the episode in the can, the swf file will be sent to every animator and some of the production-experienced actors for critique. We will all review every part of the episode and discuss ways for everyone to improve.

STEP 7-Submission
Once we've all previewed the episode and put in our two cents, the episode will be aired over several mediums on the internet. With this comes two possibilities: 1. Each episode will be released as it is completed like a regular flash series or 2. The episodes will all be secured until the whole series is animated (which shouldn't take too long if there's a lot of us) and then released the way a season of a tv series is done: 1 episode a week at the same day same time. That will be decided later.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE: You must have a Newgrounds Account (obviously for credit and linking purposes). You must have completed at least 1 decent sprite flash and have submitted it to the Newgrounds Flash Portal. This does not mean you need to rival the mighty Alvin Earthworm, I just need to know that you know what you're doing :P. You must have a decent reputation with the interweb-community.

COOPERATION:This is a team project and you will be expected to cooperate the same way a lead animator would with the director. If I give you the storyboard for a few clips of a fight scene and you send me back something that follows the directions beautifully, you're exactly what I'm looking for.

COMMUNICATION: Constant communication is a must. Letting me know what you're doing, updating me with progress. Telling me that you're going away for the weekend. All this communication will help the production as a whole.

COMMITMENT: Once you are given a fight/drama/action/sequence-scene to animate you will be expected to do so by the deadline. These deadlines will seldom be tight but they are given for a reason.

Anywho, once this team is constructed we'll come up with a "production studio" name in the first week and have a couple animators come up with some thumbnails for a logo that we'll put in every episode.

Think you want to be part of the team? Send me a PM and I'll check your portfolio. Got questions? Post a question below and I'll answer!
