Voting Quiz Posted July 8th, 2008 in Politics

Hey,

I'm looking for a good website with a detailed quiz of who to vote for in the presidential election. I want a quiz with tons of questions, and with answer choices more than "yes or no"

The site should also be politically neutral.

If anyone knows of a site, a link to it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

So far, all of the arguments (the two below you too) have been very good points. So, you're probably the only one who didn't read my long argument about the age of the Earth. Anyway.

About the faith, I guess I can't argue too much with these people because it is their faith after all. I guess they hate hearing my arguments just as much as I hate hearing theirs.

That's true, (but a load of crap in my opinion), what do you think?

Age of the Earth Posted June 30th, 2008 in Politics

Hey Guys,

I know this topic probably comes up all the time. And I'm sick of it. I'm sick of people saying the Earth, and the whole universe is 6,000 years old.

Look, I'm no liberal, and I"m no conservative. I believe in god, I believe in science. But it is 100% fact that the Earth is way older than six thousand years. I can prove this using simple science. Please read fully before bashing me. Understand where I'm coming from.

1.
Take Uranium, a radioactive element who's strong nuclear power is proven in nuclear weapons. (Like the one's used to bomb Hiroshima in WWII.) All elements (different types of matter) come in different isotopes. Isotopes are variations of an element based on the number of neutrons in the nucleus of that atom. For example, Carbon has six protons, and usually six neutrons. 6 + 6 is 12 so this would be known as Carbon-12. A Carbon atom of 8 neutrons is known as Carbon-14 (Because 6 + 8 = 14). All radioactive elements (Like Uranium) have what is called a half-life. The half life can range anywhere from a few seconds to thousands of years. After one half life, exactly half of that element has converted into a different element. So, if you have two pounds of Carbon-14, after one half life (about 5,730 years) you'll have exactly one pound of carbon-14. So, if the ratio of Carbon-14 to Carbon-12 atoms is a substance is 25%, that means that it went through two half lives, or is about 11,460 years old. Likewise, we do the same thing with Uranium-235 has a half life of about 703 million years. So, if the percentage of Uranium is a rock is found to be 25%, then it went through two half lives, which makes is about 1.4 billion years old.

2.
The Universe is huge, so huge, that even at the immense speed that light travels about 300,000,000 meters a second (or about 6 trillion miles a year, this distance is known as a light-year) some light from distant starts takes years to reach us. This concept is understood easier by thinking of lightning. When lightning strikes right next to you (hopefully it doesn't) you would hear the thunder almost instantly. When lightning strikes a mile away from you, it takes about 5 seconds for you to hear the thunder, that's because the sound has to travel to you. Likewise, light from distant starts has to travel to us. Based on how long it takes for the light to reach us (say 5,000 years) then we know that the light from that star is us seeing the star the way it was 5,000 years ago. Scientists have found stars that are more than a million light-years away form us. This means the star has been in existence for at least a million years.

If anyone has a good argument as to why the Earth is really 6,000 years old, and all science is bullshit, then I want to hear it. And don't say "Because god is above that." I want solid facts.

Obviously, this is just as exciting for you as this is for me. I really hope there is life on Mars, and that soon we find intelligent life elsewhere. Maybe it would tell the human race that we need to work together as a race, and not fight over different ethnic beliefs and customs.

Also, I'd love to see what technological advancements they have made, and which one of us is further.

Very true, people always look for the easiest answer. and not necessarily for the correct one. Keep in mind this a generalization, I'm not talking about any person in particular.

Response to: An Actual Global warming debate Posted June 30th, 2008 in Politics

The only people who will be confounded by the changes in the Earth's magnetic field are birds.

Not really, because the magnetic field protects us from Solar Storms. The Magnetic field has nothing to do with gravity, I don't even know how that thought popped into your guys' heads. I for myself believe in global warming. However, I think its a natural warming, that we have accelerated, slightly.

However, the problem is with CO2 in the atmosphere. And not because of us. Because the Earth has warmed over the years (by us, or by nature) CO2 which has been dissolved in our oceans is now being released into our atmosphere.

Bottom line, plant more trees, lots of 'em.

Reason Vs. Logic Posted June 25th, 2008 in Audio

Hey guys,

I've recently purchased a brand new Macbook Pro, and I'm looking to do some music editing. I guess the type of music I'm looking to do is along the line of Aphex Twin. i was just wondering if Logic or Reason would be better for this type of music. Or, is there another program I never heard of. Remember, it has to be Mac compatible, and I guess 400 American dollars is my budget limit.

Thanks.

Response to: Why Global Warming Doesn't Exist. Posted March 22nd, 2008 in Politics

Well of course, Europe and that portion of the word are seeing a cooling because the natural currents of the ocean are changing, I'm not blaming it on Global Warming. And, so the temperature goes down one year, maybe its because some people who became Global Warming conscious took some action to reduce their emissions.
And, yes, I know trees make O2 from CO2, but we're making far more CO2 than they can handle right now.

Response to: If Lincoln hadn't been shot Posted March 22nd, 2008 in Politics

If I remember correctly, Jackson the 17th president, tried to carry out Licoln's plans, but Congress was the one to stop it. Therefore, it probably would've turned out about the same, because Congress was for punishing the south.

Response to: The Politics of Video games Posted March 22nd, 2008 in Politics

What I feel is more important than government intervention of gaming is parental control of gaming. Parents know not to buy there kids a rated "R" movie because its rated "R", but they have no idea what "M" means in a game. Parents need to become more video game aware, and know what their kids are playing.
Also, which I feel is most important, parents should limit video game playing hours. I know kids who can sit down for an entire day and do nothing but play Xbox. Kids are becoming fat and lazy, and you can't blame them, because its the parents' fault for letting them play for hours and hours.

Response to: Why Global Warming Doesn't Exist. Posted March 22nd, 2008 in Politics

I don't see how anyone can deny the existence of global. Anyone living in an urban area can definatly tell you every summer has been hotter than the last, and ever winter there has been less snow. You may be right as far as saying the Earth has its natural cycles and stuff like that. But, these changes are happening over the course 100 years, when they should be taking thousands of years. Its safe to say Global Warming is definatly accelerated due to humans.

And about Al Gore wanting to kill everyone, shame on you. He's trying to get people to conserve a bit so there is human civilization 500 years from now.

Response to: The problem with newgrounds Posted February 12th, 2008 in General

Well, I could see where your point is, but the truth is that if something really really sucks the first 30 seconds of my watching, chances are its going to suck the rest of it. Another problem is sometimes people have flashes that the first minute is just a dude sitting there, or the same loop repeating, and then it goes onto something good. It makes no sense.

On the other hand, something that starts out good, I always watch through, because many times people have amazing introductions (probably stolen from somewhere) and when the actual video starts, its horrible.

Which is also the reason why we can't just leave, or they'll take over and everything (America) is fucked.

Which I guess is why we can't really do anything until the Democracy strengthens in Iraq.

Or the Extremists just realize Democracy (or Republic) rules.

Yup, so its lose - lose situation, which really sucks.

Response to: Can't wait to get a PS3! Posted February 9th, 2008 in General

Good idea, it's going to be improved a lot so I can't wait to see the improvements, and Xbox 360 is for attention whores, especially the kids at my school with the Guitar Hero fad, fucking fags, learn to play the real thing.

You damn well know what you're talking about, me being a guitar player, I hate that every kid now a days associates Guns N' Roses to guitar hero and other great bands I've been listening to for years.

Response to: Fast internet! Posted February 9th, 2008 in General

Um, not to brag, but I've peaked at 5 MB/s. I just got Verizon FiOS and I'm never going back to anything. If I ever got 13 kb/s, I'd go crazy

Response to: Can't wait to get a PS3! Posted February 9th, 2008 in General

PS3 is definitely the better system, but remember it too had its set of problems, you just didn't hear as much about it because less people had it.
Since the recent price drops, it has been selling well. Also the Blu-Ray looks like its going to be the winner, which is great for Sony.

The only reason why I wouldn't get (and it applies to me personally) is all of my friends already have Xbox 360, so the only way I could play online with any of my friends, is to get an Xbox.

If I were you, I'd say go for it.

Response to: McCain the killer Posted February 9th, 2008 in Politics

I personally think McCain is crazy for wanting to rewrite the Constitution to fit the bible.
I myself an Catholic, and a good Catholic person (in my opinion) should be respectful of other peoples' religion therefore keeping separation of church and state as is.

Response to: Fight Terrorism with Diplomacy? Posted February 9th, 2008 in Politics

I agree with you absolutely, but I believe the problem is, what we are doing now isn't help either. Going there and destroying parts of civilian cities is not necessarily going to make them friendly, and probably make them hate us more. Therefore I think its a way the government is using to shut people up about the war for the time being while they cook up a new plan. Diplomacy is doubtful, but we've got nothing more to lose.

Response to: Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack Posted December 9th, 2007 in General

The price may be absurd, but Microsoft is smart. If just one of your friends goes out and buys the maps and is like "they're amazing" then all of you will go out and get them, causing a chain reaction type thing.

As for me, I would never pay ten bucks for three levels.

I agree with you, me being in the middle (slightly liberal) view Democrats as being more "accepting" when coming to another one's ideas. However, conservatives just seem to push away others' ideas without giving it any thought. (That's just what I experience, I'm sure this always isn't the case.) But that would be my reasoning

Response to: Iraq Death Toll Down Again Posted December 1st, 2007 in Politics

Response to: Taxes Posted December 1st, 2007 in Politics

I think we (being an American) should consider a flat tax rate, so the rich pay the same percentage of the poor, with no loopholes. I realize that being more on the side of the poorer side I would be paying more, but I am willing to do that for my country.

As far a saving 1 trillion dollars, I'd put it towards giving companies R & D money to develop more efficient cars, houses, etc. with less Carbon emissions.

Anyone else have any good ideas?
