1. You become flood when infected. You get randomly selected for a level of flood when you spawn, as in L4D. Someone could spawn as that big ass flood guy and others could be the shooters etc etc.
2. Alternative to number 1, when you are a infected, you start as a sneaky little level 1 that jumps on your face, then as you infect someone, you take their bodies and become bigger and stronger as the campaign flood does.
