My parents have a little pond with a fountain out in the front yard, where they put their fish in the summer. My mom had those goldfish for years, from when they were tiny, and they had grown into large fish, about half a foot in length each. One of them was pop-eyed.
Someone came into the yard when everyone was at work and threw the big fish into the garden and popped the eyes of the other one. They're all dead.
This is a nice neighbourhood, too, though it's right across the river from a poor area of town. Last week, there were several reports of vandalism down a street next to ours. Why must people destroy little things? They were just fish.
