I desire to be a part of some conversation in here, so somebody should say something random to me so I can respond.

Just wondering what people think of 2:00 onwards and if I should make the song more like that.
I'm really excited about this track I'm working on and it's really close to being done... but I'd love some advice on if anything sounds a little off (there's an FX error in the intro that's too loud, I can fix that but idk how it happened).
Anyways, just looking to see if anyone thinks I should do or change anything up.
Thanks guys.
Yet another chillstep WiP woahhh
Latest revision! Increased tempo from 128 to 135 (140 is too fast, 128 is too slow o_o)
REMASTERED! Sounds much cleaner, you'll only get the full out of this song if you have a good sub wub wub'ing your face.
Set up the second drop (The second drop you hear from 2:40 onwards IS NOT THE REAL DROP. It's just copy pasted beginning to show how epic the second drop will be when I make it haha)
Any feedback would be great before I wind up releasing this one.

That was quite humorous... haha. Definitely the best dubstep tutorial on youtube.

16 Bars Intro -> 16 Bars Breakdown / Hook -> 16 Bars Drop -> 16 Bars Breakdown / Hook -> 16 Bars Drop 2 -> Outro
thats pretty standard i guess... ofc you can change to what pleases you...
Definitely easy when you lay it out like that.
I actually didn't want to upload the WiP to newgrounds yet, but maybe linking like this would suffice?
Just looking for thoughts on what it's missing. It's a bit repetitive but most of it is filler because I'm still adding instruments. Very minimal mastering on it too, but if there are any compression tips I'd more than welcome to them.

Seriously, I wish things like that were the least of my worries.

It's not so much that they don't want to bring more variety or specific options, but it's just an insurmountable task to continuously update the entire system to include the latest subgenres. Dubstep has 10 subgenres alone, dnb at least 15, trance has plenty and house even more. It's just *too* much.
If your track really doesn't fit any genre, you could try putting it under miscellenious.. but more often than not, it gets lost in there.. I suppose trance, or just dubstep (ofc), would be proper places to put chillstep. It's more atmospherical and thus will appeal to most trance listeners (and it's a relatively popular genre on NG).
IDM would go really well into Industrial tbh, there's a lot of glitched out music to be found there.
If anything, you could place the subgenre in the new 'tagging' system, where you can fill in 4 words (or tags). If people are looking for IDM specifically, they'll find your track more easily that way. :-)
Thanks for the informative post, I should have assumed this has been brought up before and I do see the tedious task of appealing to so many sub genres.
I wasn't sure how well the tagging system worked but it seems to do its job just fine so I'll make sure to utilize the feature more.

Those people will never reach their potential that way.
I take all advice to heart, good or bad. In fact, I usually get a little upset when I see so many reviews only saying "It's good!" or "Great song dude!", that's not what I want a review for. If I didn't think it was at least okay, I wouldn't upload it. I want to know what I did wrong, or what I can do better!

I suppose..
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to place my music in a specific genre where it is relevant but won't be downvoted due to being in the wrong list, but with the lack of some of the lesser known genres (Dubstep and Drum and Bass are generic terms that don't take into account stuff like "chillstep" or "IDM", and placing these songs in Techno feels wrong because they're more intricate than that)
I understand there are MANY genres available already, but the electronic section seems to urk me. I'm assuming it's this way to prevent the audio from being too spread out and to help artists get exposure but I feel it's somewhat of the opposite. Many pieces are drowned by the mass of mixed genre songs that are submitted every day, and I suppose it makes it worth it for the best of the best who always get noticed but are the underdogs suffering and not getting enough exposure to improve themselves?
I'm not trying to diss on the current layout, in fact the more I look at the more I realize the update really made my exposure go up and people are voting more fairly.
But let me give an example of what I mean, let's say you clicked on Trance; from there do you think it would be too cluttered if it showed sub genre's of trance? So you could still view ALL trance songs, OR you could click on a specific kind of trance (Psytrance, euro, whatever.)
Same with Drum and Bass or Dubstep. Drum and Bass > IDM / Glitch. Dubstep > Chillstep / Wobbles / Scream.
That way, you could get more specific on exactly what kind of genre the song would fit into, AND it would raise your exposure due to people spreading out their submissions and not drowning everything out. This wouldn't affect the current layout so much as you could also just view all trance styles at once as it currently is.
Good idea? Bad Idea?
I watched this thread die today.
It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.
It'd be great if anyone could review and throw me some tips. This was about 6 1/2 hours of work, very experimental considering this was my first attempt at any sort of vocal splicing. I took Michael Jackson billie jean lyrics and spliced them, took some pitches I thought sounded alright, made a short melody and then threw delay/reverb/eq on them and did a grossbeat automation for the glitching.
It turned out okay for my first try but hopefully next attempt will be a little cleaner cut and have more variation.

I don't think we do that anymore, but it was cool to watch how others made their music.
This is actually a pretty neat idea. If anyone who has the time and would like to, I guess they could start a Stickam for it...
I think it would be a great idea for anyone with the time.
I know one thing that vastly improved my music was just working with another person on a project, you learn a lot of stuff from each other and you influence your styles into one delicious mesh. Try collaborating with someone around your skill level and try learning off of each other.
You could also go to warbeats and look at some producer videos if you want to watch how the pros mix, or wait here for somebody to pick this idea up. There are quite a few ways to learn.
I disagree, a song doesn't always have to be melodic but I definitely care about my melodies and they have to be exactly right or I can't handle it and I'll scrap it completely. Just whatever my mind is set to, I have to make it sound that way; I want it to sound good and feel good.
