A quick sting and then its over. Nothing to sweat.
Yuengling is a great beer. Sam Adams and all its variants are pretty good also.
Duke Nukem Forever. Everyone seems to be trashing this game but I still find it plenty of fun and feel it was worth the wait.
I also liked Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, even despite its quirks in multiplayer and so on. Don't think I'll be getting MW3 though, I'm kind of tired of the franchise now to be frank and every new addition just feels like an afterthought. Black Ops wasn't bad either and while it followed the same CoD style and formula, it was different in several ways.
And I agree with other people in here. I liked Saint's Row 2 much more than GTA4.

In terms of quality it definitely sends mw3 packing but honestly- its completely generic fps vs slightly less generic fps. The single player looked way to scripted for my tastes.
The entire concept of "grit and realism" has grown more stale to me than even the most watered down knock knock joke. Upon bf3's release we can at least reach a forte of what can be done in this sub-genre and game designers can get out of their emo/darkmetal phase and build games with some depth and creativity again.
Fair enough, but if you were in charge of designing the game, exactly how differently would you do it to satisfy as many people as possible who want a game that involves modern-day warfare and military-based combat that's as close to realistic as possible? What would you do differently that the game wasn't doing now? The objective is to make the game seem real, and make it feel like you're a real soldier, taking on real missions in realistic settings which yes, calls for "grit and realism." If you're complaining about Battlefield 3 doing this, hate to say it, but you're expecting the wrong things from the wrong game. Dice is using as much depth and creativity as they can without making the game seem fictitious and unbelievable. From what I've seen so far, they're doing a great job, but I can't confirm anything until I've seen and played the game myself.
If you're looking for that free-roaming FPS game where you don't follow mission objectives, you're more off on your own, and you're free to do whatever you like within the game's environment while breaking the rules of realism and so on, that's great, but Battlefield 3 is not going to be that kind of game (most military-based FPS games aren't). The game wants you to feel like a real soldier, and as a real soldier, you're told to follow orders, work with your squadmates and help each other survive, and accomplish mission objectives, something that Battlefield 3 is going to be mainly focusing on in it's single player.
Just sounds to me like you're expecting Battlefield 3 to suddenly break out of context and do something that's unrealistic that would ultimately deviate from the scope and setting of the game.

It has plenty of great action, the blood and gore is much higher than most FPSes, and it still has plenty of great, badass Duke attitude to it, even if half of it is cheesy and the other half is chuckle humor. The graphics may not be the best thing out there, but they still get the job done and at the end of the day, they still look good and really give the maps detail and atmosphere. The weapons, both new and old, also feel great, look great, and are powerful and kick the right amount of ass, even if you can only carry two at a time. Meanwhile, the enemy AI is strong, smart, and isn't as easily manipulated as it was in Duke Nukem 3D, forcing you to fight hard rather than waltz and shoot about like a drunken Rambo. In addition, more of the environment is destructible, the driving areas are a new and welcome implementation as something that was never done before in a Duke Nukem game, and the puzzles are a lot more clever as opposed to just pressing big red button sequences like in Duke Nukem 3D.
If you're bashing and bitching about this game, you're not looking hard enough. There's plenty of material to appreciate about it.
I say Battlefield 2.
BC2 was good, but BF2 just felt bigger and more appealing. The maps were huge, the vehicles were strong and had reliability, and air vehicles vs anti-air weapons felt much more balanced, while in BC2, helicopters almost always thoroughly rape the other team because the means of getting rid of them are pretty limited and often result in self-sacrifice. Trying to get a tracer on a helicopter in BC2 just so rockets can home in on it is way too hard (and requires you to give up your valuable side-arm), whereas in BF2, you had IGLA and Stinger turrets that anyone could use, as well as AA vehicles to counter-act jets and helicopters. Meanwhile, jets and helicopters were still powerful and could be well used even with what was up against them. The balance there was perfect. In BC2, how the helicopter is used will often make or break a team's attack or defense, giving it too much weight.
One thing in BF2 I don't get was all the hate on the Songhua Stalemate map. I actually loved that map, yet everyone else couldn't stand it and so many servers stopped having it in their map rotation. It was great if you loved ambushing people, sneaking around, planting C4 in unexpected locations, and so on.
Either way, I'm looking forward to Battlefield 3.
To me, it's not so bad. So instead of blue/yellow/red keycards like what Doom started with and Duke Nukem 3D used, the experience is more directly linear. To me, that's not a big deal. Half Life 2 still did that and it was a great game.
This game is getting way too much hate considering it was on the verge of never even happening multiple times. As a Duke Nukem game, yes, it's a different experience when compared to previous games. That's normal. If it was made to be exactly like Duke Nukem 3D, people still would have complained that they were recycling aspects and not making it anything new. Instead, they went for a different approach, and are still getting whines about it. Bottom line, people were expecting Duke Nukem Forever to be perfect, and that's just not possible. Instead, appreciate it for what it is, a Duke Nukem game killed the 12-year rut and gave us a reliable shooter with plenty of great action moments, gameplay, and plenty of chuckle humor, even if it's not the "perfect" game so many people were expecting. Truthfully, I'm pretty satisfied with it, and I'm happy to see Duke back in action and kicking ass.
The way some people reviewed this game makes me believe they should stop playing video games altogether. The spoiled brat pessimism gets annoying.

Not trying to sound like an asshole, but from what I've seen, some people take that game way too literally and seriously, spending enormous amounts of money on virtual assets or ways to plaster up their avatar. Some businesses have tried to get into it, but the whole thing still seems like a gimmick that only sticks with a very specific target market.
I saw them use Second Life as the basis of an episode in CSI: New York, and it looked like the dumbest MMO I've ever seen (at first I actually believed it wasn't a real MMO and was just something cheesy the show's writers came up with). From what I've seen outside of CSI: New York, it's no different than how they portrayed it in that episode, but yes, I could be wrong although I believe the chances of that are pretty low. I'm just not going to spend the time, energy, and hard drive space trying to see if that was right or not when it already seems like it is.
Your choice though.

Same here. I've seen people talk crap about games I really enjoyed, and I found the demo fun and worthwhile, although painfully short (maybe that was a good sign because I wanted to keep playing?). Even if its not the same feeling as Duke Nukem 3D, I saw enough from the demo that makes me feel confident it will still be a fun and kickass game.
These days, it just feels like most people bitch and rant on the negative parts of a game and totally overlook the positives. Plus if you get DNF for the PC, I'm sure some pretty good mods will be made for it, including ones that will work past the few minor hindsights of the game.
Second Life is for people who failed at their first.
China. Would make sense with all of the chemicals they're pumping into the air.
I'm honestly not impressed. It looks like it's trying to be a handheld, which would cannibalize with the 3DS.
Despite the crappy name of the Wii, I had some hope for it, but this is a joke. Sorry, but I'm not making the same mistake twice by getting a system that's only going to appeal more to children while using gimmicks. And yes, the name is beyond idiotic and I'm not looking forward to hearing it referenced every time the next generation of consoles is mentioned.
One thing I hope Battlefield 3 does is have games where people of similar rank ranges play with each other, rather than have truckloads of games where newbies and casual players get preyed upon by veterans and experts. I've noticed that in Bad Company 2, many cases you'll have stacked teams where level 50s just prey upon the team of lower ranked players round after round, and its actually rare you find a truly balanced game.
I hate this feeling that if I don't play the game all day every day from the moment it comes out and play absolutely nothing else, I'm going to end up falling and then get my ass handed to me.
Name: Butterfingers
Effect: Anyone who attempts to knife you gets themselves killed instead.
Get it for the PC, because where there's a PC game, there's a modding community.

Gearbox made some really odd design choices, a game that wanted to bank on nostalgia has QTEs, aim down sights, limited weapon slots (and no boot, wtf?). I don't even think Gearbox new what they were going for, having a very modern spin on Duke doesn't work. Duke still has his chauvinistic attitude, which is great, but removing the old-school mechanics just isn't working for me. It's like Gearbox is trying to appeal to both the nostalgic and modern gamer, but the demo felt like a very awkward mix of the two.
This. The demo was pretty good (ridiculously short though), but I liked the days of being able to carry every weapon, even if it seemed unrealistic. Seems to me like most of the game will be spent scavenging for whatever weapons are nearby and using them right away rather than saving the guns and ammo you want to use for later. Seems too much like a politically correct concept of being only able to carry a few guns as opposed to walking around being ridiculously loaded for bear, something I actually liked about the original Duke Nukem, Doom, and all those other early FPS games.
I'm still looking forward to the full game, but I hope this "modernizing" hasn't spoiled it.
That sucks to hear, but you did the right thing. Don't let this incident make you think otherwise next time should something similar happen again.
I see this working for smart phones and tablets, but not for laptops and desktops. First off, I like icons over tiles, I don't want all that crap covering my screen. I don't want to be bombarded by everything at once and it seems like this is trying to do just that with its tiles. I can't watch a movie and read an article at the same time anyway. And I agree, I don't see this working well at all for gaming, which is one of the major reasons for consistent hardware advancement and upgrades.
I'll stick with Windows 7, and then move on to Windows 9 after they realize how much of a mistake this was.
At 5/30/11 07:06 AM, LulzCal wrote: Also, here's a comparison of Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3 with the new maps.
To be honest, they barely even look like the same map. Seems like they kept the same overall layout in terms of street and building placements (which is good), but everything else has been changed completely.
Either way, I'm still pretty hyped for this game.
Counter Strike. The game has been around for so many years, yet still never shows very much sign of slowing down. Every now and then, I go back to it for a little while.
I quit WoW almost two years ago, and haven't had any intention of going back. From what I heard, the Cataclysm expansion has only made things worse.
If you're a normal, level-headed person with even just some traces of sanity, you won't get addicted to WoW. There are other MMOs coming out that look vastly superior to WoW and will come in only a matter of time.
Playing on the PC is better for the fact that aiming with a mouse is much easier than aiming with a control stick no matter what anyone says. Not to mention with the right hardware, a computer can handle much more vividly detailed graphics than modern day consoles can. And lastly, with computers, you have the access to the modding communities so that you can modify and customize many aspects of your gaming experience. Just look at what Project Realism did for Battlefield 2.
I like the destructible cover aspect of the more recent Battlefield games, which absolutely murders the encouragement to camp, changes the battlefield in various ways, adds incredible amounts of realism, and allows for new strategies to be used. I can't tell you how many times I've used the Bradley Linebacker in BF:BC2 to destroy plants and foliage to weed out snipers or used explosives to break holes into the wall to get to the objectives faster. It changes a lot of things that other FPS games overlook. I was quickly reminded of this when I was playing Homefront the other day and found myself not able to kill an enemy soldier with a tank simply because they were hiding behind nothing more than a fence.
I do hope, however, they keep the way knifing an enemy player worked in Battlefield Bad Company 2 when it comes to Battlefield 3, and they don't turn it into an unrealistic fiesta the way it was in both MW2 and Homefront.
Why are you asking here? Keep this to your news posts, this doesn't even belong here in the first place.
I don't get it. The same thing can apply to used cars, used computers, used whatever. How could that possibly be just as bad as piracy? People have the right to sell what they legally own, whether the original manufacturer likes it or not.

I know you're biblically illiterate, America. But could you at least do some BASIC biblical research when you're trying to tell about people about some as deathly important as the end of the world?
This. Some people seem to like twisting around the words of the Bible and try to lead others astray with their perceptions. The truth is, we don't know the day it's going to happen, and people really need to stop twisting words and numbers around to try guessing and make others believe it's the truth.
Besides, the end of the world has been predicted countless times before, all with a 0% success rate. People need to realize we can't foresee these things, nor were we meant to.

When you simplify something into such a tiny and literal context, yes, you could say this same kind of statement with regards to just about anything. Thankfully, I don't have such a dogmatic way of thinking.
Besides, video games are fun, it's my time, I can choose how I want to spend it.
Josephine, even though I have yet to run into a female that has that name.
Yuengling, Sam Adams, and Corona Extra for the most part, but sometimes I dive into something new every now and then.
So what is the rest of Newgrounds boozing on?
In a doctor's waiting room. Not surprised about that though, given the two hour wait.
