Topic: Any Advice For My Flashes?

Posted: 11/28/09 08:11 PM

Forum: Flash

Well, for flash making in *general*, I'd try to avoid using internet meme. Or at least, making them such a central part of things.

Though since this was for a collab of "what the fuck boom", then that part can be excused... at least, for this.

The art style is okay, but nothing all that great. Not much animation going on besides raising one's arm and swapping for a finger briefly. I'd try to study drawing with structure and just practice drawing in general to get better.

Also, your background is essentially just a green block. Could at least make it look like grass in the background, maybe a bit of shading here and there.

Explosion could be animated and would look better than a tween'ed, badly vectorized explosion. I know there's some explosion tutorials in the newgrounds tutorials, could have a look there.

It's hard to judge just what it is you know and don't with such a small, virtually un-animated example.

Does it give you an error? Are the MP3s encoded weird? Does it just do nothing? Could you be a little clearer?

Forum: Flash

Yeah, get Audacity. It'll do just fine for your purposes, unless you want to do something studio quality, then you should get ready to shell out cash.

As for how to record, you're probably better off recording your dialogue and cutting it up into multiple WAV files, maybe one per line. That way, you can change when it happens (and on what frame) rather than change your animation according to your dialogue.

Consider your desk space. I have an Intuos that's pretty big, so it's kind of a drag to use at times.

Bigger space, however, allows for more sweeping, shoulder movements (which is the preferred method for doing less detailed stuff, traditional animators will tell you to be gestural).

With bigger space comes bigger cash requirement to buy it, however.

And, naturally, how much use it'll see. Will you justify the $300 purchase for an intuos, the $2000 for a cintiq, or will you feel a lot more comfortable with the $50-$100 in the graphire/bamboo range?

The advantage of the intuos above the graphire and bamboo is the tilt function and the increased touch sensitivity, which is missing in those lines. But it's more expensive, obviously.

Your processor is adequate, but still will feel it.

However, adding more ram (anywhere from 512 to 1gB) will spike a notable improvement. I'd start with what's cheaper (which is RAM) before going with a new proco or proco/mobo

Design and export the raster image large (like, 2000x2000 or something). That'll ensure it'll be nice and clear no matter the size.

It's all you. If you think you need extra space to make larger motions, then go ahead with the higher price.

However, also consider your desk space. Larger tablets will take a lot of space on your desk.

Once your movie clip is made (several sprites inside of a F8 symbol movie clip), and you do the tweening skate from one side to the other, try previewing your movie (pressing CTRL + ENTER)

You'll see your sprite animated

No piece of program will draw a sprite out for you based on what another looks like. Learn to sprite, if you want to create custom poses, or find them, or somehow tweak them however you can to make them look as if they were relax poses.

I'd make sure not to allow the mouse to escape those boundaries with a 'if mouse X and mouse y are at that point, stop moving any further'

That's one option

Topic: Guys got any ideas for a flash?

Posted: 06/08/08 03:40 PM

Forum: Flash

The setting: Medieval, maybe fantasy.
Belrog, a large, gruff bandit, decides to leave behind the life of banditry. He tries to rejoin a nearby village to start his life anew, not wanting to be a thief anymore, but sadly he's recognized on a wanted sign, which forces him to run away from the townguard and into the nearby forest.

I'm sure you can squeeze ideas from that.

Topic: layers and quality control question

Posted: 05/26/08 07:48 PM

Forum: Flash

1) How many layers in a flash movie would it be recommended for me to keep within to let an animation/game run smoothly for a viewer.

Doesn't matter. An actual flash file, when compiled into a SWF, uses Depth (manipulated in Action script), not layers. The smoothness is from just how much graphic you have. If you put a tree's individual leaves on a layer each, at the end it won't really matter (depending on how many leaves you have).

2) What is the coding used to change the quality of your animation/game. I should be able to easirly covert the coding into a button aswell right?

"Easing" is also your friend to acceleration and deceleration.

However, you ARE best using both tweens and FbF, as mentioned above.

Find the "Add layer" button. Anything you draw on a frame that is above your sprite will, as such, be above the sprite.

Imagine: How would you do it with carton cutouts? Well, you'd make him go UNDER the cut out that indicates the viewer-side of the door. Same deal, except with digital layers.
