3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsHere's the bitch about free speech that so many people seem to fail to grasp. Free Speech is great because you can say anything you want. Free Speech sucks because so can everybody else. That means if somebody says something you don't like you have to be an adult, suck it up, and deal with it. you can't go crying to mommy or the cops or the government because when a man in a bar said "Hitler wasn't so bad" it made you sad. Free speech is a freedom I believe in pretty much unequivicably. And that means that when somebody says something I don't like I may debate the merits of what that person is saying but I'll never argue that they shouldn't be allowed to say it.
I have no doubt that as time goes on and more and more of the arguments against legalizing it are revealed to be ridiculous it will be legalized. It's an issue of how much time that takes. I'm sure it'll be in our lifetime but not anytime in the immediate future.
I think homophobia is much like racism, it's literally impossible to wipe out completely. Everybody is a tiny bit racist, everybody is a tiny bit homophobic, it's like that with nearly all prejudice. It's a matter of the severity of it in any given individual.
With the exception of certain genres (RPGS, Strategy games, etc) most games are pretty short and have always been short. The reason old school games seemed so long was that you tended to die often, so the time put in was mastering the game. Once you actually did that a complete playthrough would only be a few hours. That's still the case now but the dying aspect has been removed from many games. For some reason it's no longer acceptible for the challenge of a game to come from repeatedly dying until you get it right. Now there has to be a gradual learning curve and you only really die if you screw up badly. This makes the short play time much more apparent than it used to be.
I only caught the tail end of it so I can't speak for what happened earlier but I've gotten really tired of how McCain seems to be condescending to Obama. Laughing off his arguments, interrupting him and just not seeming to be very respectful. And for god sake man stop blinking! Between his non-stop blinking and Sarah Palin's winking how do the two of them even see straight?
Wait the bible says the anti-christ will be Muslim now? I remember a few years ago they were saying the bible said that the anti-christ will be Jewish. Granted I'm not bible scholar but my own rudimentary research doesn't show the book of revelations saying ANYTHING about the faith of the anit-crhist, only that it is a "he" and he will claim to be Christ.
I hate when people just make up crap saying "the bible said it" assuming nobody's going to check because of how big that freaking book is.
I don't think it's media bias that keeps indepedents away, I think it's funding. To be blunt it's been extremely rare that a 3rd party candidate has ever had enough financial backing to ever be a credible candidate for the presidency. If they could afford ads on TV then the media wouldn't be able to ignore them. But they can't. With all due respect to 3rd parties, until one of them has the backing to really make themselves known it's kind of a waste of time to cover them because they would never have a prayer at winning.
As far as rip off games go (which is what the Crash Racing series is) it's actually one of the better ones out there. But as usual it's not as good as the original.
The trend towards trying to censor games is nearly dead at this point. There's still some out there pushing for it but by now it's viewed much like films: there's a rating and if you're parent letting your kid play an M rated game then you're an idiot and it's not the fault of the game or the industry.
I'm not sure why you singled out Obama. Granted it has been liberals leading many of the charges in the past but the man has no personal history on the issue that I'm aware of.
This is not news, this always happens. Which is why I buy used games almost exclusively. I'd rather wait 6 months and not go broke.
For the moment I've fired up Diablo 2 in anticipation of Diablo 3.
For truly epic I've got a three way split between the Hydra battle in God of War, the fight against the Collosus of Rhodes in God of War 2 and basically every battle in Shadow of Collosus.
Like most system mascots (Crash was an attempt by Sony to come up with a Mario/Sonic like character exclusive to their system) he started out well and fizzled out soon after. The games started to suck and platformers are almost dead at this point anyways. Fun for his time but he sadly doesn't hold up.
I'm going with MSG1. I should point out that I haven't played all of them. I can make no judgement on MSG4 because I don't have a PS3. However MSG2 was terrible. It played well enough of the story was a total mess and I wanted to bash Raiden and his dumbass girlfriend in their heads with a bag of bricks. I started MSG3 but didn't get very far. After 30 minutes of cuts scenes and dialogue and only about 2 minutes of actual playing I just gave up and haven't gone back to it since.
Of the primary series (not counting spin off types like FF Tactics) my favorite is still FFVI. I still think it has the best story and strongest cast of any in the series. The only game that came close to being better for me was FFXII. The rest are all great games but they don't quite measure up to FFVI for me.
Given how cheap it would be to find in a bargain bin at this point you might as well, just keep your expectations reasonable. The battle system and character growth is pretty good. But honestly the story is complete and total crap. I got about 2/3 of the way in before I got bored and gave up.
Compulsatory voting is a terrible idea. Sure you can make people turn out to the polls if you want to but you can't make them follow the debates or the issues or do any research on the candidates. The result would be people voting on a whim, an impulse and with no real information whatsoever. I would rather the few people who take the time to understand the issues come out and vote voluntarily than force massive amounts of people who flat out don't give a crap to come out and screw evertyhing up.

A parent can only influence a child so much without locking her up in a cage or basement.
I honestly feel that given her political stances it's open game. However I will say anybody still going on about that isn't paying attention. That's old news at this point and she's given plenty more ammunition that it shouldn't even be needed to bring this up anymore.
I had a topic on this up about a month ago (http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/966 179). My feeling is that in an ideal world everybody would follow the campaigns and the debates and make informed decisions. The reality is that most Americans don't follow these things and under pressure to vote ("Vote or Die" as Diddy's idiotic campaign said it) they make uninformed choices. If somebody is not going to do the research on the candidates and their positions I would personally prefer that they not vote at all.
I'll believe it when I actually see it on a store shelf.
You spoony bard! ~ Final Fantasy IV
I gotta go with FFVI as well. Most satisfying ending of a game ever because it touches on every single on of the very large cast of characters.
I had a subscription starting in late 80s through the early 90s. When it first started it was a guide magazine, giving you hints and walkthroughs for portions of whatever games it was about. As they got into the 90s it became a bit more of a hype machine for what was coming down the road. Then it got into reviews and tried to be like all the other magazines and it just got stupid. That's around the time I canceled my subscription.
I need to go with Soul Caliber on this one.
For me personally cheating takes alot of the fun out of the game. However like most I'll rationalize using a FAQ or something if I get stuck and can't figure something out for myself. But cheat codes like invincibility and stuff like that make the game boring to me.
Resident Evil. I heard so much hype only to try playing it and have the characters control like a drunken cow. Man that pissed me off. And I'm still bitter about the "relative direction" controls it spawned that so many copied for so long (you know where you press right and the character doesn't go to the right side of the screen they go do their right so if they're facing the screen they go left from your perspective and so one).
They're both good but I have to go with SNES. The thing about the Playstation is that it was the first generation to go fully 3-D and going back to it you can see how rough it is around the edges in terms of both look and control (especially cameras). But the SNES was pure refinement of 2-D 16-Bit glory.
So long as I don't have to buy a new computer to run the thing (and Blizzard is usually pretty good about keeping the hardware requirements reasonable) I'm so there!

Video Game... geez man just look at what forum you're in.
Gameplay is number one, which is probably why I spend a good deal of time with my GBA and DS. Not really graphically impressive but there are some very good games for both (especially in the genres of RPG and strategy). Great graphics are a nice bonus but I have no time for a pretty game that sucks.
