Sweet, thanks for the help guys! This will be my job for this weekend.

Is this achievable in PHP?? Posted October 22nd, 2004 in Programming

OK, in reference to this site I'm working on http://www.csun.edu/~nscs here's my question...

My site has information on the left and right sides(the navigation and announcements area) that repeats over all the pages of the site. Could I use PHP somehow to create a single document with the information saved as variables, and them some kind of PHP script to read the document variable and then plug them into their respective HTML tags? Will this screw with the CSS I've already done? And I'm not asking for an exact script, but what would something like this look like??

I triple that motion, frames are the devils work!!

Response to: Help finding a font Posted October 20th, 2004 in Programming

It's unlikely you'll find the exact font as it looks like a normal font that has been tweeked. But as for the basic, underlying font, it looks a tad like "impact" to me, but I'm to lazy to do a 1:1 check. If your not picky, Impact will probably work fine as a substitute.

Response to: PHP-macintosh...help...plz... Posted July 4th, 2004 in Programming

I've just been reading about PHP and I'm not an expert or anything, but I think you need to set up a local server in order to preview .php files without actually uploading them.

From what I read, PHP doesn't come for mac, only for Windows (Ick!), Unix, and Linux...

Theoretically, MacOS X is based on Unix, and there might be a way to fool php into installing on the mac (i did java programming on my mac instead of on windows like the rest of the sorry bastards in my class).

But, I think that would be incredibly, technically difficult as you would have to create a directory that might also have to be a seperate partition as a Localhost. But, like I said, I'm not an expert or anything. Hope this helps.

Response to: trouble viewing movies Posted July 4th, 2004 in General

Not using IE anymore because Microsoft is not developing it anymore for the mac(Bastards!)

I'm using Safari, and It's not a cache problem but thanks for the suggestion.

I do have the latest flash player, and the site was working fine for me up until a few days ago.

I did just now let the blank window stay for a few minutes and here is the error I got:
Could not open the page “http://uploads.ungrounded.net/content.php?id=179049&…s_luckyx2&date=108882
7200&quality=b&uj=1&w=550&h=400” after trying for 240 seconds.

So what the hell is going on? The location has to be accessible because no one else is having problems, but my browser can't access it anymore.

trouble viewing movies Posted July 3rd, 2004 in General

anyone else having trouble viewing movies at the portal? When I get the pop up, it's just a white box, nothing loads in the window. This just started a few days ago.

Response to: Alan Greenspan: Moron Posted February 29th, 2004 in Politics

Anyone calling Greenspan a moron needs to look in the mirror... He is in chairman of the Fed which basically controls our economy, the largest in the world, and indirectly controls the economies of the rest of the world. If you want to know who holds true power, it's not Bush, it's Greenspan. Comments like these reflect the serious lack of economics education in this country. Take a college semester of economics and I'm sure you'll change your opinion.

I'm only going to interject this one thing thats a little off topic, but will hopefully make people see a bigger picture and realize they may be inconsistent in their logic. I hope any of you bastards saying you are anti-affirmative action are also anti-union, because it's the same damn thing... and that if you are really anti-union and not just saying that so that you don't look stupidly inconsistent in your arguments that you are crossing the picket lines at will for this ridiculous grocery strike.

In the color mixer, when you have a shape selected, you will see a property called Alpha, it is set at 100%... reduce this percentage to make the object transparent

Response to: Songs during the movie Posted January 30th, 2004 in Game Development

get a music editor to chop it where you want to... else the entire song exports and it makes your file huge... sadly Flash MX has no way to do this so you need another program

Response to: problems with music Posted January 30th, 2004 in Game Development

In the properties inspector when the sound is selected you will see an "edit" button, click and it will bring you to a waveform editor. In the upper right and left corners are squares that you click and drag down, chopping the top of the waveform... that will kill the volume

Response to: Sync help in long movies Posted January 30th, 2004 in Game Development

When you preview it... do you Control>Test Movie, or do you Control>Play... If you do both, are the timings different?? Control>Play is not reliable in my experience...

I am making a flash.. and im kinda new, but i know what im doing. anyways... im trying to make the actions of my characters fix their voice audio... but when i export the flash and watch it in internet explorer the actions happen about 5 seconds faster and then the words come out of nowhere...

If it post onto NG, will the users get the same problem? or will the preloader make everything happen like planned?

In return for my help I have to ask you to put more detail in your posting topic... Set your sound options Sync settings to STREAM... this will sync the timeline with the sound... if anything, frames will drop from the animation... for more info, i've answered this question many times, do a search!

Response to: help Posted January 24th, 2004 in Game Development

And please don't title your posts "help". It should be outlawed just like the "WTF" topics... I had to wade through five pop-ups just to find out i'm not interested in helping you.

Response to: Importing Movies!!! Posted January 23rd, 2004 in Game Development

The problem your having is that quicktime does not have the codec(compression/decompression) that .avi clips require to play back the movie... I assume your using a mac... here's a link to download the codec required, but I don't know if that will automatically fix the problem your having importing to flash

I'm an Uktena Galliard, from the Desert Valley Sept above the San Gabriels Mountain Caern. I spend my days hunting fomor, banes, vampires and other beasts of the wyrm... Every once in a while we have a Moot in which, performing the duties of my station as Galliard, I show the sept my flash animations.

You could take a screen shot while the movie is playing, then crop and resize it down.

Response to: confusing! Posted January 22nd, 2004 in General

Look at the list of new entries every day, see what gets blammed and what sticks around... that will give you a pretty good idea of why your movie was blammed. Us reviewers go through countless stick movies, not working movies, boring/pointless movies etc...

We are all merging into 1 race anyway, that's what Globalization is all about. I think that the U.S. has come a long way in regards to what's beautiful just in the last 30 years... look at the models and movie stars of the 70's, white, blonde, blue eyes... now look at today and it's waaay more diverse, and being exotic seems to be what is beautiful.

Response to: Is Microsoft Evil? Posted January 22nd, 2004 in General

You may be thinking, don't we have anti-trust laws, aren't the courts doing something about this right now... The attorney general has pussied out of this one... It's already been decided that Microsoft will not be split into seperate entities... and one of the rediculous proposals for the settlement includes donating $1million dollars in software to schools

WTF? First of all the amount is incredibly small. As I said before, MS has over 30 billion in cash assets. To put it in more comprehensible terms, lets say that it's actually 30,000. Then MS is proposing donating $1 in software to schools. This figure is also the RETAIL value of thier software... Not the actual cost of the software... and if we are talking economic cost, the real cost of software is in the development, which is already done, hence a sunk cost, and so costs nothing...

Now consider that one of Apple's strongest markets is education... Not only are they only donating $1, not only is the actual cost of the software next to $0, not only will MS use the donation to reduce their tax liability, but the Attorney General is allowing MS to get out of the anti-trust lawsuit by making inroads into a market belonging to Apple... Doesn't make sense to me.

Response to: Music and how alot of stuff sucks Posted January 22nd, 2004 in General

I agree, 90% of what's on the radio is shit... that's because it's made for the LCD (lowest common denominator) of listener... you have to really look to find good music... which is why internet radio rocks, I can't believe there are forces trying to shut it down.

Response to: Sound Sync (yet another one!) Posted January 22nd, 2004 in Game Development

I've posted this before, this is some general info about the sound sync settings...

The property inspectors SYNC settings can be set to Event, Start, End or Stream... Event syncs the sound to an event like clicking a button, or reaching the keyframe in the timeline. An event sound plays for its entirety and independantly from the timeline. Event sounds play with the timeline and thus can overlap.

Start is similar to event, but the sound will play to the end before playing again if it is triggered.

End stops every occurrence of a specific event or start sound at the frame in which the End is located. To use, create another layer, insert a keyframe where you want the sound to End; into that keyframe insert the sound you want to stop; open the Sound panel; and set Sync to End. Because Event sounds run independantly of the timeline, this is the only way to gaurantee that an event sound will stop at a specific frame.

Stream syncronizes the sound with the timeline. Streaming sounds end when there are no more frames in the timeline.

Response to: sound problem... Posted January 22nd, 2004 in Game Development

Instead of using scenes, turn each scene to a movieclip, then attach the movieclips to the main timeline, which will also control the sound.

I'm willing to bet it's your audio, try deleting the audio from your movie, publish, then check the file size to see how many pounds it dropped.
