--

Personally, I think it's a bad idea.

I have to say that I definitely agree with you on that point. There's no way that a fully electronic currency can be a good idea, especially if it is implemented quickly. The first major problem would be the bugs, especially if it is run by the government. I've heard enough horror stories about the government trying to build these kinds of things, even missile guidance systems. One of my friends was a programmer for the DoD and said that they're all required to use Ada, the most useless language in the world, so they build a backdoor in C or C++ so that they can write useful code, then the code doesn't work well with the Ada front end, and it makes a complete mess. Imagine they try to build a banking system like that, and they take all kinds of shortcuts. Not only would it work poorly, but it would also be easy to counterfeit money and generally cause problems with the system.

Then, theres the issue of the poor and homeless. How would they have access to food and other necessities without an electronic "account" of sorts, which would be necessary to even buy food? Then there's the issue of government tracking. If they want to catch drug dealers and such - I assume that interpersonal transactions would work WITHOUT tax or fees, which presents its own problem - let them do so, but the problem arises when they start going through everything. For example, if I want to buy an old box of tools from my friend who doesn't need them anymore, are the police going to show up at my door with a warrant to look for drugs? Then there's just the general resellers dilemma. Should you even be allowed to resell things? Or does the company still have the sole rights to sell the product even after you bought it?

So overall, I think that an exclusively electronic economy is definitely not a good idea.

Same as above. I'd be very interested in helping, but more details would be nice.

What language is probably the most important in terms of whether I can, and what kind of game answers whether I want to.

Good luck!

This should be fine as long as you don't feel any physical symptoms. The rule is more of a guideline than a rule. just stay hydrated and make sure you eat a light snack before working out to boost your energy.

That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. It's fine to stress the dangers, but I'm against teaching abstinence as the only way to stay safe.

Sex Education: Abstinence Only Posted June 13th, 2011 in Politics

From what I've found online, such as HERE, it seems a lot like schools' health programs have been overrun by abstinence only policies. Eventually, teachers were required to teach a mix of scare tactics and misinformation. I honestly cannot believe what these schools have come to. They overlooked basic logic, arriving to the conclusion that teens don't have sex if you tell them not to.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be taught about the potential dangers of sex, but that an abstinence only approach doesn't work to prevent the spread of STIs and unwanted pregnancies, and could actually worsen the situation.

Here's my reasoning of why it doesn't work, feel free to add your own or prove me wrong. I want to see what people think:

1.
Some people are going to have sex, no matter well the schools run a scare campaign. This could be because of apathy towards the program or the realization that it IS a scare campaign. The problem is that when people learn they were being taught exaggerations, they tend to start downplaying that teaching. Then, people have sex, ignoring the potential dangers.

2.
If they do realize there is a danger, they don't know what to do about it. Scare campaigns don't work if the danger can be reduced (e.g. condoms, the pill, etc). So you end up with people having sex not knowing how to protect themselves from the dangers.

Again, I'm not against teaching the dangers of sex (STIs, pregnancy, etc), and that abstinence is the only 100% protection, (condoms rate 98% with perfect use, the pill at 99.7%). I'm just against teaching that abstinence is the ONLY way to protect yourself from those dangers.

Nicely worded. The best thing you can do is find online documentation for the programs, and use that to try to recreate them. Good luck!

Look at infamous 2, fans bitched and moaned because the Cole looked different, so they had to change it back. It's sad that fans, the ones who want more out of their games, are the very same people who are preventing such things from happening.

If Valve decided to abandoned Half-Life(or at least put a long halt on the game and it's progression) all in the pursuit of new IP's and ventures, I'd be more then willing to let it go. I'm sorry but Valve has interesting ideas and franchises that they can expand on that are better then Half-Life(except in terms of Story in certain areas) and who are we to prevent them from doing such?

Also, of course Valve wants to make money. That's the goal of any business(at least any successful one) and until they start turning out sequels every year(Madden/COD etc), I don't think what they do warrants all the hate.

I absolutely agree, especially with the business philosophy. Everyone bitches about how they "just want to make money". Problem: how do they make new games without a budget? Answer: The company fails as all their projects go to shit and nobody gets anything.

Also, about the new DLCs and hats and whatnot could be taken as a good sign and that development is progressing at a very fast pace, as they might just need to add some money to the budget. But in their defense, they just released Portal 2, for several platforms at once.

All I can say for sure is that when either Ep. 3 or HL 3 come out, I will be buying it.

At 5/16/11 09:55 PM, OneWayDevil wrote: The facts about masterbation.

You know that masterbation is dangerous. But do you know all the facts?

Masterbation causes cancer. Masterbation is the number one cause of deaths due to premature ejaculation and other serious diseases.

For every person who dies of masterbation-related illness, 20 more suffer from a chronic disease due to masterbating.

Masterbation doesn't just hurt you. Second-hand masterbation from your masterbation is a serious danger to your children, family, and friends.

The facts are clear: quitting masterbation will protect your health. According to the Surgeon General, quitting masterbation is the single most important step a masterbater can take to improve the length and quality of her or her life.

If you're ready to quit masterbating, we can help. Freedom From Masterbation® Online is an innovative masterbation cessation program from the American Ejactulation Association®. When you become a member, you'll get:
+A 7-module program to show you how to quit masterbating
+Tools and resources to help you on your quitting journey
+Solid information about preparing to quit
+Guidance through your Quit Day and the first few weeks of being masterbation-free
+An online community of fellow quitters to give you ongoing support.

Where do people learn these things? Masturbation cannot cause any diseases, and is a completely normal activity. If it did cause those diseases, people wouldn't have sex. Sex is literally masturbation, but with another sexual organ rather that ones hand. And secondhand masturbation? Really? How is that even possible? If you have any sources about the surgeon general quote, than I'd like to see that.

What do people teach their kids these days? Especially with health classes in school up-playing the dangers and downplaying methods of safe sex. Also, Masturbation can help you keep healthy, it's actually good for your heart, and help help relieve stress and tension. It's actually rather the opposite of what you are arguing.

Computer Games and Violence Posted July 31st, 2010 in Politics

As a frequent player of video games, and frequent reader of newspapers -mostly online-, I keep reading about parents who think that violent video games are teaching children that violence is okay and that there are no rel consequences. I disagree. There has always been something that parents thought would teach violence, for example comic books. They were very violent and did not show consequence of action, and parents had the same attitude about them as they do with computers. I think that violent video games are not as much of a problem as parents think, and should not be as hated within the parental community. Though I agree that these games can cause mental trouble for very small children, as they usually don't understand the context and the fact that it isn't real.

Response to: Legalization of Marijuana? Posted May 4th, 2009 in Politics

Really, the good things about legalizing Marijuana are,

(a) It does less damage to your brain.
(b) You don't get physically addicted to it, so you can stop if you want, unlike tobacco or alcohol.
(c) Government could tax the drug to make some money off it.
(d) None of this drug cartel shit would happen, since it would be legal, there would also be a lot less drug dealer crime and drug related gang wars.
(e) With the legalization of Marijuana comes the use of hemp, which can be used as almost anything, food, paper, clothing, etc. which comes to less deforestation.
(f) Micheal Phelps's rep would be restored.

Really, why not? I'm not advocating the use of it, but the legalization.

It wasn't their fault that the economy went down the shitter, it was the bad business tactics of private companies like the banks and the three auto companies. On one hand, if they gave out the bailout money, it would be rewarding the companies for their bad business, giving way for the possibility of corruption, and it would be handing out billions of dollars in a time where the country can't afford to be throwing around money. There would also be a chance that the companies wouldn't pay back the loans.

yes, corruption would be a huge problem. it would decay trust in the govetnment and the markets would fall again. the bailout was a crappy idea anyway, the idea seemed to be, "lets give more money to some companies." the companies robably couldn't pay back anyway, so whats the point?

On the other hand, if they didn't give out the bailout, the big three would go out of business, leaving a major economic gap and it would mean the loss of millions of jobs across the country. It would also mean that the auto industry in the US would die out entirely. There would be no more American car companies, meaning that we would have to further invest our money in our imports from China.

thats the only good part of the bailout. it would have been better if they did it only for the car companies then. that way we dont have an insurance company taking eighty billion dollars of government money.

Also, our tax dollars go to the government, not China. Our income goes to China, but not our taxes and none of that is congress's fault.

fine, i'll agree with that.

Congress's biggest fault was the Iraq war, but now they're in another lose-lose situation because of one mistake. If they pull out there's the chance for economic collapse in Iraq and the chance that the Taliban would invade again. If we "stay the course", we continue to pour millions of dollars into Iraq.

yeah, iraq was a crappy idea.

Alright, you win. Still, if there was not a free market, then the current crisis would not be happening. Sure, we would be poor and probably oppressed (communism). There would actually be a better financial system with the absence if a free market (for the government). Look at the soviets during world war 2, they had no free market (unlike the Germans) but still whooped their ass. I know that sounds communist but it's true.
