While I do agree that too much money is being spent on their rehabilitation activities, I do NOT agree that they should be denied rehabilitation and a chance to redeem themselves to society for committing a crime and serving time at such a young age.
If they come out and they haven't changed one bit, then I would say that that was a serious waste of taxpayer's money.
They came out of JAIL, not REHAB. BIG DIFFERENCE. Jail is a violent place, and often just results in people becoming even more violent after they spend time there.
I'm sure the article said that they went to rehab. They wouldn't give privelages in a real jail... would they?
Unless you want them spending decades in jail, still soaking up taxpayer money for a far longer stretch of time than what their rehab would require, or having them put to death at taxpayer expense and denying them an opportunity to repent and try to live as compassionate people, then the only option is rehab while they still have a chance to be molded into normal people.
The way I see it, to them, they're not getting punished or rehabilitated. They're getting rewarded for their actions. Free TV, Computer, all at the taxpayer's expense. That doesn't seem right. If you want children to learn for their mistakes, then you need to punish them. Let them know how real justice is done rather than spoiling them.
Well, I agree that they ARE being let off a bit easily. They should be given harsh punishment and made to know that what they did was horrible, but they have to be released SOMETIME, you know? They've spent the second half of their lives being incarcerated. Maybe they should be given the attention and money it requires to rehabilitate the mentally ill.
I agree with you here, but I only hope that they're given a more harsh environment so they do change, otherwise, this whole thing won't work, and they'll come out the same as they went in.
If they want to be good, it wouldn't cost teh God damned money because they would apparently have some sort of inherent urge to be good people despite years of abuse.
The thing is, they DON'T want to be good, they were still found bullying the other inmates.
Even then, Some of the taxpayers are paying money so two rotten kids can have luxeries that the payer's can't even afford. None of that seems right at all.
OF FUCKING COURSE THEY DON'T "WANT" TO BE GOOD, THEY KILLED SOMEONE AND SPENT ABOUT A DECADE IN A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT BASED ON IMPRISONMENT. In that kind of environment, it's bully or be bullied. They obviously chose to bully because it came naturally to them, and that needs to be remedied.
I see what you mean, but the way I see it, they don't care if it's a bully or be bullied place, they would bully no matter what kind of place they're in. Even if they were in a Absolute 0 tolerance area.
My arguments are based on the assumption that they still get privelages like TV and Computer
I agree that they should not be pampered, but I still believe that they should be given a chance to show that they can exist as people without being violent.
I didn't say that they should be given the death pentaly, I said that they should be given a longer sentence. Based on your arguments, yeah, they shouldn't be as drastic as I said they should be, but they should still be in there longer than the sentence they were given. That way, they would be more improved.
