Thinking

i know this is a minor detail, but i think (especially for the authors) it would be killer if there was a tallied views stat for each song and some sort of measure versus other viewed songs, kinda like a mirror of the portal's popularity and views feature...

as for the sound effects, i agree that many people will end up just pirating SFX and overflooding the portal with redundant submissions, so in counter i like the idea of a redundant button (possibly with some sort of voting power incentive) and also a strict blamming process. But in terms of a static pool of SFX, i believe this might create its own redundancy in the flash portal similiar to the currently redundant use of FlashKit's samples.

I think the major push here is to offer new and unique forms of effect that can really set an animation apart from the redundant world of STANDARD flash animation effects. I encourage everyone with a microphone to get out a pot or a pan, maybe even a latex condom and experiment... Run sounds through effects, bring your tape recorders to the beach or bars.. Gather ambient sounds from all walks of life to promote the realistic experience that high rated flash animations have to offer.

Sound effects category, we need to encourage authors to create sound effects for flash submissions. This would be a rather helpful tool for animation authors.

Happiness has struck my soul. The voting system for the audio portal must evolve...!

I have read many of the posts on this topic and besides the "i came up with the idea first" entries i have seen many good approaches. First,Having a "blamming" system is both a good and bad idea. I feel the standards for what is a " BLAM " should be severly lowered compared to an animation submission, possibly stretching over a longer period of time but needing to acquire a much lower score to be preserved (ex. 1.0). I say this because i could imagine many people finding admirable uses for what might be considered as a shitty submission. Also providing an author with the ability to create a unique genre (only people with proven reputation should have this freedom and it should probably be limited to 2 instances per author) so that a musical diversity and unique sense of creativity can arise within the portal itself. I think that the audio portal is an extremly valuable resource for NEWGROUNDs users and should be optimized accordingly. Another idea might be the implementation of a "Most Downloaded" or "highest ranked" section to allow users to search for quality submissions. I would love to share any other input into the evolution of the portal at any request.. Thank you

right on.... i agree with the malicious and spiteful voting on the part of other users.... its assonine.. As for this post of tom's i must find it, so i can express my views there, call me ignorant but i have not come across this yet. But in fact i did send an e-mail regarding this to Tom, when read back (after hi9tting the infamous send button) i realized that my passion must have over taken me and caused a large inconsistant thought in the reading of the message, i am sure he will see through this. You work with Tom on this site....? I am very interested in getting involved with the evolution of NEWGROUNDS. i applaud you for becoming a part of this wonderful internet resource..., now.. off to find a better path of revolution.....

Having a better system would also encourage better content...please, check some of my shit out and tell me what ya think......Prozacsmile's shit right here ...the audio portal could be a great resource if developed properly...

I Think it might be a usefull change to the audio portal if a better voting system was implemented. I have noticed (while not being able to see the actual vote counts) that it seems as if the only people that vote on any of the tracks do so only in a negative way. Most tracks average in the 2.5 area and my own personal experience has deemed that i have only recived negative votes while i have a decent amount of downloads. I believe that a lacking reward system only encourages malicious voters to click on the "0" button but gives no reason for anyone else to express a positive vote. Now i understand this is a double eged sword and many people may read this post and think " well, if the song was good enough it would hold solid" but i have downloaded some rather killer tracks from the portal that were rated at a 2.5 or so, and when voting 5 it was raised to a 3.75. Being that these tracks had a decent amount of downloads i could figure that many people download this but only one (other than the apparent author) voted, and it was quite obviously a "0"... There is alot of good music being submitted to this portal and i just want to see a good voting system that encourages the experience of good music. Also, i think having the ability to post reviews concerning the audio submissions would definatly be a step in the right direction as NEWGROUNDS evolves into a media mecca..
