A healthy mind tries to figure out what is real. That's why you have a brain—to distinguish reality from your own needs.

A mind on drugs does not. That will only push you farther away from a complete understanding.

I don't get it yet. Isn't illusion is what my mind fail at perceive of it as true and vice versa for reality? If reality is illusion, meaning that it is not true, if it is not true then what we always think of illusion will be wrong, so illusion isn't wrong, meaning that even if reality is illusion, reality is still not wrong, then reality is still reality.

No no no. Reality is the world as it exists without you. The illusion is your own life. If you take drugs, you experience a different type of illusion, but it's all a chemical imbalance in your head, not a change to reality. While you look to be hunched over and muttering nonsense, you are experiencing hallucinations in your illusion.

Everything you experience is part of the illusion. The illusion is your mind trying to make sense of reality. But reality exists beyond the mind, and is experienced in different ways by different people.

Crazy or drugged out people don't think they're crazy, because the illusion isn't in confliction with the reality. They seem crazy from another person's perspective.

No?

We know there are trillions of planets. We only know the standard model and how Quantim Mechanics conflicts with the SM. there has been zero evidence that extra-dimensions exist in the way that extra-solar planets have been observed.

What we've established in this conversation is that yet again, the atheists are interested in solving mysteries using evidence, and theists are interested in satisfying their emotions despite evidence.

Response to: "official" Atheism Vs. Theism Topic Posted August 26th, 2013 in Politics

How could this possibly reach a quality conversation?

As I've seen it: Your argument boils down to "if you're going to be atheist, you're not allowed to make educated guesses because that's faith, which means you're being religious about science". You are abusing Strawmen (Ononymous's Word of the Week) and it's not attractive. Quantum mechanics doesn't necessitate the existence of multidimensional creature, infinute cardinal sets of every possible permutation of the universe, or a God just because you say it does. You've been ambiguous and vague about your motivation for being religious.

No, she's being herself as a sexual woman. When men grab their crotches and thrust all over the stage, do you say they're "objectifying themselves as a piece of flesh"? Fucking double-standards, I swear.

There is evidence that either side used chemicals, and botg sides were in that area at the time. Assad is pointing his finger at the rebels, the Rebels are pointing their fingers at pro-Assad, and the US and UK are barking at their leashes.

This whole situation absolutely reeks of Mossad.

No, actually. Read what I wrote.

NASA has found evidence of environments conducive to life. If all energy behaves according to the same physical principles throughout the galaxy, then it's likely the Milky Way contains upwards of 10 billion earth-like planets. Since there is no evidence for any hypothesis which includes a God, then why should it ever factor into your thinking?

"We are here - therefore aliens," is hardly different than "We are here - therefore God."

Duh? But that's not what I said.

There is literally no evidence of God here or elsewhere.

There is a ton of evidence that life exists on Earth, that other solar systems are similar to ours, and therefore life is capable of existing elsewhere.

I don't understand why pretending to be completely retarded is entertaining for you, Ononymous. I really don't.

Life is the divine magic that allows Humans and the animals of their doman to thrive on this magical world. It is only possible for a God, a Divine Being which is Not Alive and Exists beyond the scope of Intelligent Life's Imagination, to bestow Life upon the primordial muck of existence. That muck, which he also happens to have created entirely for the purpose of bestowing Life to. In Space and Time, which he also happens to have created, in order to house Himself. And Himself, which he created, all because he wanted to invent Life on Earth.

Holy shit, really Kel-Chan?

The Bush administration fabricated the evidence used to justify war in Iraq to finish a project his father began a decade prior which was cut off by Clinton besting him in the 92 election.

We had CIA, NSA, UN workers, etc all saying that it was a load of crap. That after the closest election in US History where the electoral college which held the sway vote was lead by the Republican winner's brother and there was significant evidence of a election rigging. The election was all about Bush versus Clinton.

How much do you REALLY know about the last 2 decades of US politics?

There are a dozen different groups in the Syrian Opposition. Some of them have ties to Al Qaeda. Some of them are ex-Assad. Mostly, they're just local Syrians.

Do you want to know WHY they have ties to Al Qaeda? Because Al Qaeda is financed by oil rich nations in the Middle East. They have a large anti-government network which is already in place all throughout the Middle East. If they weren't in contact with Al Qaeda, they wouldn't stand a chance of fighting against Assad.

It almost sounds like your description of god is equal to that of a young child's naive views about fatherhood. Like you bit directly into the bait that religions use to build their belief systems.

And almost as if you chose to keep your childlike innocence instead of eventually maturing to the point where you realized that all of religion is designed to train children while they're impressionable and none of it is actually how the world works.

Almost.

AR-15 murders family Posted August 23rd, 2013 in Politics

I'm sure you're all aware of this already, but for those of you who are living under a rock:

AR-15 kills a boy and his father

'...killed a Tennessee father and his 12-year-old son on Sunday...[A] firearm discharge, which investigators said triggered the fire as well as the explosions that ensued, but it remains unclear what else contributed.

Henderson County Sheriff Brian Duke said Terry York, 48, was showing his loaded AR-15 to a family friend in the back room of his wooden mobile home when it [fired] and a small fire was ignited...triggered explosions "one right after another" in minutes'

I suppose guns really do have it out for people.

Actually, Manning's reason for joining wasn't a choice, it was the result of having nowhere to live in the US, failing college, running out of money, and being unable to find a job. "Force" an applicable term or not, he didn't join for an interest in being a service member.

No it's not. He should've thought about that before he leaked those documents, much less even joined the army in the first place. It's nobody's fault but his own, and if anything, Manning is pretty damn lucky that he's getting 35 years in prison and not the rest of his life, that is, if he doesn't get killed in a prison gang attack or something between now and then, because I'm fairly sure that most prison gangs don't approve of his sex change.

He's going to military prison, not San Quentin. In most prisons, all drugs including sex hormones are available by trade on the black market. Gay men with or without sex change hormones are a big part of the population. Rape isn't actually a big problem because the gay guys and the guys who think they're women just sleep around for trade.

But again, it's a military prison. No gangs, few rapes, probably a limited black market.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Also insert random prison rape joke here.

He's a fucking idiot with mental issues. I agree. That isn't the opinion of his lawyers, or his large pool of public support. I think he'll get the medical.

They still discharge transgender people, according to the officer who withheld the photo of him in drag.

the U.S. Army does not provide hormone therapy or sex-reassignment surgery. However, inmates do have access to mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and behavioral science specialists. and there is NO LEGAL OBLIGATION for the prison system, State or Military to pay for the reassignment surgery or horomone therapy. so its not cruel and unusual punishment.

nice try.

The cost is very low... Probably less than 5,000. Almost negligible compared with the cost of court proceedings to defend the treasury against a couple thousand dollars of medical spending.

There are probably enough pro-gay, pro-Wikileaks, and pro-Manning people to cover the cost for generosity's sake.

She was forced to enter the military just out of High School because she thought it would cure her feelings of dysphoria. She tried to exit the military when she realized it wasn't going away. She could have been discharged and been treated as a civilian, and be physically female by now.

Forcing her to live in captivity, delaying her treatment 7-35 years until it becomes impossible for her to live as a transsexual woman, and withholding medical care could easily be construed as Cruel and Unusual Punishment.

As a man, just imagine being put in prison and being forced to live as a woman. Or vice versa.
