I gotta say that even with all the new fancy ass composition software out there, I like going back to Impulse Tracker 2.14 (for DOS) every once in a while, just cause that's what I started out with when I knew nothing about modding/tracking.

Aside from that, Fruityloops 3 is a classic (and useful for so many other things aside from techno), MODPlug Tracker is a pretty sweet 32bit (windows) version of the IT-style DOS trackers, and it rocks.

Also, I haven't bothered upgrading and am still using Sound Forge 5 and Steinberg Wavelab for mastering purposes.

I'm the same way, but the fact that the portal is being completely bombarded with utter shit movies (with the odd exception of mediocrity) really makes me reconsider my stance on things.

And to all the people who submit movies with "clock" somewhere in the title just to take advantage of these brainwashed masses who click on 5's whenever they see a clockface, you're worse than Hitler.

I saw shit that a 5 year old wouldn't be proud of make it past judgement.

yeah, you also wrote "hope you die" for some reason, which is cool, because now I know to ignore anything else that comes from your general direction. next time maybe i'll ask your permission to upload a work in progress to ng alphas, considering you run the place and are a wise and successful leader.

Of course with so many possible variations it would takes ages to render the neccessary frames and get that working and the filesize would shoot up tremendously... :/

Forget I said anything.

hrm. yes, i had considered doing something like that. something similar to what you see in Lands of Lore, if you've played it.. But at the moment I think i'll just focus on getting it to run as a square by square movement kind of thing.. Surprisingly, adding custom maps to the thing instead of just random room generation is proving to be straightforward. I'll post updates later.

Thanks all for the criticism and constructive comments.

something along the lines of the old PC classic Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Hack, etc.
i'm nowhere near finished.. but the basics are there. i was just kind of hoping to get feedback, or maybe suggestions for things to include in a game of this genre. i'll be posting updates whenever the engine makes any significant progress.. (speaking of which, it really sucks how it's not possible to edit submissions you've made to NG ALPHAS).

Or if you're interested in helping out somehow? i dont know. i havent really considered farming any of the work out. it's tediuos but i enjoy it. leave a note if you're desperate to work on this thing. I'm a student so it's not like I can afford to pay you.

so here's a link to the thing: clicky
and here's the forum with changelogs and such: clicky.
and if for some reason you wanna see it in NG alphas: clicky.

No, no other problems. It's just 1 old submission that didn't upload correctly.

Who's this liljim you speak of?
liljim@newgrounds.com?

Newgrounds should just get rid of the Audio Portal completely, that'd shut you all up.

What a completely retarded suggestion.

I have yet to see anyone praise the Audio Portal, and quite frankly it pisses me off. Most sites wouldn't even dream of wasting it's bandwidth on ordinary people like us so we could get our work shown. I think some of you people should be a little more grateful.

The audio portal rocks. There's lots of great tunes in there if you're willing to rummage through a lot of crap.

I'm very greatful it's there, but that does not change the fact that it's still just half-finished.

I emailed Wade a few days ago about an audio submission of mine that I would like deleted (didn't upload correctly - ended up being 0kb) and I got no reply. I looked around the contacts page and couldn't find anyone listed there that does maintenace on the audio portal.

Any suggestions as to who l should email to get that submission deleted?

Also, the system for the weekly top 5 songs is so fucked, I won't even get into it.

If I had a retarded brother, like the A-bot is to the P-bot, I would definitely try and help him out.

and another thing, is it possible to add a user to your favourites if they have no flash submissions, just audio?

just to clarify, by "you can't even look through audio reviews you've written" i mean it's definitely not as painless a task as getting a list of reviews you've written for flash games or movies.

What's up with the audio portal being so primitive in comparison to the flash portal? I know it's not as frequently used, but it just seems unpolished .. like someone was working on it, then they saw a happy frolicking squirrel around outside their window and then forgot to ever go back to work.

You can't even look through audio reviews you've written.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Just because you hate reading novels that may or may not be "required reading" for some stupid high school english lit course does not mean you should burn all books and never read again. Suck it up and move on.

Find something you're actually interested in and read about it. How the fuck else are you going to educate yourself?

The Xpress is a free* Ottawa-based magazine/newspaper/entertainment listings thing that gets put out every thursday and is read by shitloads of people who grab the thing while waiting at bus stops or drinking coffee at one of those fruity overpriced coffee stands. The reader base runs the gamut from students to retired immigrant cooks. I'm not sure what that means.
But it's a publication that is respected by the young(er) community for its liberal tilt and because it features great columns like Savage Love by Dan Savage.

Why?

It's quite sad, but I'm pretty sure I could write out the script for this movie from memory. I've seen it so many times that i had to buy another DVD to replace the old one which was too scratched up. The writing in this film is pure genius, and (among others) John Goodman, Jeff Bridges, Steve Buscemi, and that guy that plays Brant do a great fucking job delivering the script's many classic lines.

One of the all time greatest stoner flicks out there, as far as i'm concerned. But pretty much anything the Coen brothers create is golden (with a few exceptions).

Many a time have I seen the portal page filled with stuff like 'first flash evar!!1', 'lame plzdontblam', and 'crap movieidrewtogethr' as darklilangel23 pointed out. And if a title like that is thrown onto a terribly novice flash movie/game, I blam after 10 seconds. Sorry.

If I see any potential, or anything that shows some sort of effort or insight within that 10 seconds, you're golden.

the game code gives the player a 1 in 10 chance of robbing the bank , and i've actually gotten lucky a couple of times.. so it does work. but it is most definitely not a good strategy for getting out of debt :)

just travel around a bit and you'll get a feel for the prices. should be easy after that. ;)
