Creationism vs evolution debates generally result with very little actual 'evidence' or information to provide, because the actual theory itself is much more complex than 'we evolved from monkies'. In other words, these debates are more intuition than anything, because it's impossible to bring in all these different fields of information that would be necessary to completely satisfy all parts of the debate.
So just stop, because it's annoying.

Most people who use it aren't exactly very technically inclined are they? Isn't that what they product is marketed towards?
I always thought it had bad accessibility and design in general, but I didn't realize it was programmed badly.
It's good to know that instead of the typical few days in jail you get if caught by law enforcement is superceded by tear gas and being tazed by some guy in a suit.

It's not like we'll all be frozen. Particles will simply defy physics. That's all.
I have experience in XNA, not just C#. Except i have no idea what Farseer is.
I've made some 2D games and dabbled a bit in 3D. I'm also currently in a physics class so programming should be an issue, especially considering it's simply a platformer. It depends on the requirements and working with the other programmer.
She didn't dump you, she rejected you.
Instead of attempting to change her mind maybe you should go find another girl. I mean, if you end up having to resort to 'change her mind' you're not really that good for her, are you?
Why do people always post controversial topics like this?
Don't you realize that we shouldn't be so black and white about capital punishment just because a few guys a year kill some kittens? It's a minority of sick fucks - it's not like there's a whole community of them.
People should stop dramatizing it and realize that we shouldn't have the absolute worst consequence for every bad thing that happens....
Kill a teenager because he killed some kittens? Aren't we all guilty of sadistic torture of animals at one point or another? Especially those with mental problems?
Seriously. Shut the fuck up.
Hello folks! I'm working on a soundtrack for a game I'm making, and I'd like your opinion. Basically it's in midi, and then converted to wav. I put reverb on all the tracks.
My idea is to have all the tracks consolidated into one file, which will be the soundtrack for the game. This way there's a continuity to the music. I plan on making the game change as the music changes. I like the idea of continuous music, especially considering I'm going for an ambient feel.
The song is split into three parts: intro, rain (without music), and then the end which is more music.
I would like your opinion on this. You can skip past the rain part if you like.
OK I have two classes: main (the entry point), and pixel.
Pixel is basically a sprite that takes the x, y and color properties in the constructor, and then draws using those properties in the Draw method.
public function Draw():void
{
graphics.clear();
graphics.lineStyle(3, 0x00ff00);
graphics.beginFill(0xAABBCC);
graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 100, 100);
graphics.endFill();
}
I added the object to the display list, but it does not draw anything. If I copy and paste the code and change the scope to stage, it draws it on screen.
This is my code in main.as
test = new Pixel(100, 100, 0xFF0000);
test.Draw();
stage.addChild(test);
It should work, because I've done code like this before that has worked. Any ideas why it isn't doing what it should be?

Did you even know that wallbase is predominantly controlled by /b/? (90% of the uploads are from 4chan.)
wouldn't it be document.getElementById("contact")?
It was mentioned before but it's obviously the parent's fault...
Whenever a kid commits suicide, people can be a bit superficial. They always focus on the immediate circumstances of the suicide. Yes, some people bullied him online so that must've driven him over the edge. How shallow can you be? Nobody commits suicide just because a few people don't like your taste in music. There's obviously a bigger picture - one that can't be covered by the media - but people seem to forget that and focus on the surface.
The fact that the parents blame the website is another reason to believe it's their fault. Clearly when things go wrong with a parent's relationship with the kids...what do they do? They blame anybody but theirselves. This leads to an anti-'cyberbullying' campaign which really perpetuates the issue of not being able to properly address suicide or kids leading to suicide.

Except it's not for newgrounds, which already has its own way of getting revenue. It's for every individual flash artist, for every flash submission, EVERYTIME we play the game.

Like I said..pocket change. It's not like this is their job. Newgrounds is mostly an amatuer flash portal, and I believe it's supposed to be one. Besides, even if they did live on it, I'm sure they'd have a much more dedicated approach than inserting commercial ads in their games.
Does anybody believe there should be ads in flash games?
I'm really getting tired of having to go through a 30 second advertisement everytime I play a flash game. Plus the artist doesn't even get that much money anyway (considering the sponsor gets most of the money.) The attitude is "How can it hurt? Pocket change is pocket change." The thing is maybe newgrounds should incorporate a donation system where we can donate to artists for their flash submissions or something, or at least a system where we can consolidate sponsorships so we don't have to focus on individual flash submissions.
I understand that artists want to make money for their hard work, but to be honest it's more of a trend than anything and it's clear that they're getting kind of greedy (just look at games with 'premium content'.)
Perhaps if artists had more integrity with the amount of money they made to their flash games instead of trying to shove it down our throats, I'd be a little bit more accepting. But really I'm afraid of when we start having to watch 2 minute ads just to read a website.
I didn't bother reading the topic. Now most of you will probably bitch about that, but the thing about controversial topics is that usually posts get buried as the topic spans multiple pages and it's hard to get a word out. So I might as well point that out.
The thing about forums is that it has a community mindset. Generally you single out outsiders by how culturally inclined they are (memes, their experience with the site, etc.) and their level/post count and all this other useless information is a good quick way of doing that. Also people tend to make a big deal about the rules because it helps them establish a sense of security/superiority over other users simply because they 'follow the rules'. The problem is people bitch about others who don't fit their ideal mindset by strictly upholding the rules, but because of their status it's less likely for them to follow the same consequences when they 'break the rules.'
In other words, it happens because regulars consistently uphold this culture that's deemed acceptable by most people, and if you don't fit that culture, you have a bigger chance of being singled out.
Right...
So let's say I wrote a book about how to create bombs...will the 'first amendment' save me from that? I was under the impression that number one, the first amendment isn't even about protecting your 'right' to say whatever the hell you want, and number two, that it's only effective as long as it doesn't infringe the rights of others.
I'm pretty sure a book about pedophiles seducing children infringes on the rights of children, considering the nature of how pedophiles satisfy their needs. Of course, you can also say books about how to seduce your partner (ie, romance books) also do the same thing, but it's not as dangerous and taboo as pedophiles...
The problem with tutorials is that they're simple-minded and very limited. They're supposed to help you get started with understanding the concepts of how to do something, but generally they're not very useful for anything else. You'll find yourself exploring and solving problems once you actually get started, but the problem is if you don't have a big enough insight you'll trip over your own goals and find yourself probably giving up.
Instead of a 'portal', start out as a small developer with his own web site. Promote yourself on facebook, etc. Chances are your friends will help you out better than advertising or 'sponsorship' will. Remember that if you want to be the sponsor yourself, you need to invest money. And you can't invest $0 and expect to make any more than well.. $0.

You know, back 50 years ago people's life spans were cut in half. But now today we spend so much on preserving our expectancy...for what? So we can live to 100 years old with back pains and preaching outdated cultural values to our children?
I believe we'd have less of an issue about keeping people alive if we weren't so caught up about living longer. It makes sense, but apparently living longer outweights the cons of all the baggage that comes with it. In fact, I actually see no benefits to living longer except maybe to redeem yourself for all the wasted time you spend doing nothing or going through the motions when you were younger.
At 12/19/10 02:38 PM, EpicFail wrote: I would... But at the same time I have my own music to spend money on making and promoting as well as getting newer and better equipment to record, etc.
I put most of my money in to music that I make zero dollars off of, so until people start giving me something for my wasted talent, I won't do the same unless I find their music is truly worth it.
Maybe you should invest in some friends who have different skills that can help you out. Minecraft is a good example of a good way to get lots of new traffic and fans, because it's such a popular game. However the creator doesn't give him enough credit. There also needs to be more incentive for donations, such as merchandise or a more active interaction with his fans. The thing is though if we could focus on these things indie artist would make more money.
Although most of you probably don't give two shits about Minecraft, you should still respect the guy who worked on the music. C148 is a pretty talented musician randomly commissioned to work on one of the most successful indie games of the year. He does all of this stuff in this spare time, with high production/musical quality and releases it for free. You should definitely take the time to donate if you have any money (Christmas is coming up so spare a few bucks!) It's akin to the stuff you hear in the audio portal, without the cheesy techno and the oversampled R'n'B beats.
So if you appreciate real talent, or at least some form of music (especially if you appreciate the music portal), give this guy a try. He deserves more attention than he has.

The problem with forums is that their attitude is 'don't copy and paste' because you don't learn anything. But if you already understand the concept there is no need to write the code yourself all the time. Also copy and pasting saves time and generally it cuts the middle man. A lot of companies use proprietary engines that already deal with all these problems and all they have to do is focus on their own ideas.
Well gravity is about 32 feet per second and 9.8 meters per second.
The flaw is that it's not as simple as working with a real life formula ingame unless you were simply creating a module for your physics engine.
Reason number one would be that the units you're working with are different. Flash uses vector graphisc - they're not even pixels.
Reason number two is that the physics doesn't transfer into the game. You can't just have 'gravity' without all the other rules too. Sure, you can call it gravity, but there'd be a lot of math hacking and you'd soon find yourself deriving from real life pretty fast.
My guess is to think about it from an algorithmic approach, not a math approach.
I'm assuming that your script doesn't have access to 'trace'.
Try returning the output in the function instead and then trace the function.
Or I can make a commission for you. There really is no risk in giving me consideration because I'm not in it for the money.
I work primarily in C# and XNA but I have experience in Flash.
Using AS3 shouldn't be a problem because I'm familiar with the environment and plus a lot of concepts I've learned from game development in general transfer over easy. That is, I can quickly solve problems and adapt easily.
I've never made anything in Flash and I haven't used Flash lately (except to make animation exports for my games) but I can show you some XNA samples from school.
You may not consider me, and I will work for free (not really interested in sponsorship, just something to keep me busy.)
If you're interested, feel free to PM me or use ttuanster@hotmail.com to e-mail me.
Or we can talk more in this thread.
