If he'll do no wrong (and of course, this doesn't apply to reality), there's no reason to punish him.
The logical train here being: The point of punishment is to rehabilitate denizens of a society, so that they can benefit that society in the future. If we just want to punish criminals because they're jerks and we're hypocrites, then we might as well just kill them all in the most painful, humiliating and entertaining way possible, with little regard to what the actually crime committed was.

they just...suck at it.
Haha, I can imagine. Hell, I've showed people how to do mundane things on their computers over the Internet before, and usually by the end of it all, I have a throbbing vein on the side of my head. Teaching kids how to ski would be... well, let's just say you should be able to get a tax return on booze as a working expense.

Haha, I don't even drink coffee. Then again, I hear teachers wake up at around 6:00am, so that much coffee is well justified. Carry on. :P

Eh, I don't think that's too bad, since I'm sure they hear the term "nazi" used loosely often enough.

Sounds fine to me, in this context.
When you see nothing wrong in sending suspected terrorists to be tortured without trial or probing into the possibility that intelligence is wrong, there's a serious problem, and it's a lot bigger than just that one man.
Canada was at fault for giving incorrect information to the Americans, but having him tortured without trial is the fault of the United States of America. No other nation. Take responsibility for your actions.
I've just slept for 12 hours, got up, and prepared for a day of doing nothing at all. I love holidays so very much. Also:

Have fun cleaning up everyone's shit, dude. :P
But seriously, good luck as a mod, and I hope you enjoy the ability to deal with idiots when you see them in a direct way, rather than vicariously. Congratulations.

Also, I'm now on holidays for ten days, so I get to sit around and do fuck all. I'm impartial to religion, but I love the holidays.

Your legal mumbo-jumbo and loopholes won't get you out of this! I'm calling my lawyer. There are stipulations about found bobs, and the acquisition thereof. I WANT A DIVORCE.

When I read some political arguments on the Internet, I die a little inside.
Also, holidays are a mere two days awaaaaaaaaay
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THEM.

In my opinion, everyone retains the ability to be sympathetic to another. Just keep it simple, like "I've heard about your father's passing, and I'm sorry; you have my condolences, and I'm here for you if you want to talk to somebody" and leave it at that. Don't lie about understanding what she's going through (if you don't). Just keep your presence attuned to being sympathetic with her. As for stuttering, or anything like that, in this case it's quirky, and a sign of vulnerability, which could only help.
Mind you, I'm not in your position and I don't know every contextual bit of information, so go with what you know is right.
At 3/30/07 05:26 PM, Empanado wrote: What the hell do I do?
In a purely hypothetical view, of course.
If I were hypothetically you, I would hypothetically give her my condolences and leave it at that, because using her father's hypothetical passing as any means for your own hypothetical agenda is indecent, but then, so is simply not saying anything.
Hypothetically.
Evidently I've been ignored. My question still stands if ever you decide to answer it, but simply not responding makes me wonder if you even bother reading your own threads. And just incase looking back for it is too damn difficult:

Would you mind going into further detail about this? I've never heard of IRC (or more specifically, webchat) supporting anything more than what is already in the chat, and this gives me the impression that we might move servers, or possibly mediums. You have my interest piqued.

I'll never understand people. I'll especially never understand the need to insult people over the internet (or in general) and carry on grudges; it's inane.
Just out of my own curiosity, what's the significance to May 17 for you, Seven?

Putting him out of his misery was all you could do for him. You had no other choice. While it's tragic that he was killed, you made the right decision in the end, regardless of how it looked. I can only hope that you learn from this and pay more attention while driving in the future, lest it happen again.
And all this is coming from a dog owner who had his first dog killed by a careless driver, so I have a good perspective of just what is and what isn't.
