Topic: Gays in and playing video games?

Posted: 10/15/09 04:55 AM

Forum: Video Games

I'm interested in knowing people's thoughts, honest thoughts, of how they feel towards gay characters in video games. Would you feel comfortable playing as one? When you imagine a gay character, what do you expect them to be like? Are you comfortable with gay people existing in video games, or in general? I look forward to thought-out responses, thank you.

It's impossible for a computer, at least with our current level of technology, to become self aware. Regardless, they'd know it was 2009 and not 1909 now surely.

I agree. It really is because he's black - he hasn't actually DONE a major fucking thing yet. His plans have yet to bare fruit. I'm rather dissapointed and surprised. I assumed awards were given for things we had done, not were going to do.

Hm, then I need to re-write mine. It's from the perspective of a M.E, and is more noir. :/
I'm confused as to how that would keep you from being punk unless you ignored the technology aspect all together. Noir certainly has close ties to horror & punk...

In my mind, I've always associated punk with gangs and a gritty realism. I'll finish it, post on the user page and ask what you think sometime within the week.

It's in its early stages at the moment, so we won't say too much just yet, other than it's on a completely different level to the MWCs. And it's a very ambitious (and hopefully rewarding) project.

I'm definatly interested if you're looking for contributers. It'd be nice to go to a publisher and having said my work's already been printed. :D

You are right that coming out is a choice, but being gay is not, once you realize you are, you are, you can't change what happened in the past. It is extremely hard for most people to come out, because they may be looked down upon. When homosexuals come out, they are sick of hiding, sick of pretending to be straight and everything that goes with that. They want to be true to themselves.

Agree'd. I kept it to myself until last year because, quite simply, I wasn't sure how people would be with it. I think they're fine though, so I was lucky. I really dislike the effeminate hand floppers that prance around representing us, because they seem to be the only ones that do. Very rarely in media are gay males treated like people as opposed to characatures - women aren't much better, but I've noticed they do tend to be treated with more sympathy. Infact the only three gay guys I can think of are Will from Will and Grace (Yes, I know), Oscar from the American Office and that guy who was in Battlestar Galactica.

I think it's because of the idea they'll be taken less seriously and be seen in the eyes of thier peers as Priscillas is what makes some keep it to themselves. Not all, but some. The very fact there are people out there still that believe sexual orientation is absurd. Why would anyone choose to be ostrisized? We need to break down assumptions in people. We need to stop making the fact someone's gay such a big deal - it defines the character of very, VERY few.

Read this:

"Re: Sydney Dust Storm

From 'News With Views';
The U.S. Navy, NASA, and the U.S. Defense Department have made a decision to conduct one or more an atmospheric tests (in the last week), in order to create an aluminum oxide dust cloud%uFEFF without the permission and for the most part, the knowledge of the citizens of the United States. These aluminum oxide particles will eventually return to earth polluting our air, water and soils. The tests may damage the various atmospheric boundaries that protect life on earth no one has any idea what damage this dust cloud and the testing on this dust cloud may do to our climate, agriculture, human health or the amount of infrared and UV radiation reaching the Earth.

Go to Google images and type in 'aluminum oxide'........looks exactly what Sydney was%uFEFF covered in!!!!!?"

Please tell me this woman - who posted on a conspiracy theory YouTube account page - cannot actually be serious? Dear god someone tell me. :(

I can't say much on behalf of the other judges, but I felt that your story fell too far outside the theme. Yes, I did say Japanese culture was ok, but within the context of the theme, which focussed on history and mythology. Your story set in MODERN Japan totally skipped over all of that.

Eh, culture is culture. When people write on other cultures they tend to both romantasize and stereotype. I figured something contemporary with a twist would at least be original. Guess I went too far though :P

Topic: What do you think of Asians?

Posted: 09/27/09 10:55 PM

Forum: General

People of Asian decent? Nothing more than regular people. This being said, I admire Japanese culture and find myself interested in both Chinese and Korean cultures too. That being said, there is one thing I cannot stand about immigrants. Almost every Asain Imigrant I see tends to forget they are not in thier culture anymore and not only isolate themselves in comfortable little groups, but sit in doorways blocking your path, stand and talking in a hallway or (my favourite) walking in a moving wall effectivly blocking the entire sidewalk. I try to be considerate for others, so I take offense to this blatent not caring.
