There was a pointless game that came out not too long ago. All you do is pick up a gas container, burn a house, and then fly a plane into an IRS building. If anyone remembers it, what was the game?

Hey Newgrounds!

Ok, if you don't want part in this it cool :)

In the game me and a few friends are making there is planned to be many outfits.
I am posting this picture of the character frame, I ask that you draw over it and design your very own outfit.

This will help the game in ways so that the clothes aren't just one persons idea and everything seems the same. I plan to make a credits list for all who want to help me out.

*Just copy and paste in into MS paint/whatever you want and draw your own idea of clothes and then
upload the finished pic on here :)

Hey no problem, Right now I just want people to know the basics and I'll keep posting more and more lessons each time.

I was asked to make a tutorial on how to make satisfying pixel art. I know I am not the best, however I said I would and here I am to do just that. So lets get started!

-I use no fancy art programs, just MS Paint with my track pad-

(I am going to explain each number [on the picture] individually, so if you haven't already looked at it, please do.)

1.) Create and Color
-What I usually do is zoom into 8x and start drawing out the frame of whatever I'm working on. In this case its a robot, a simple one at that :) Next I choose whichever basic colors I want the robot to be.

Color Tip: Unless you want whatever it is you're drawing to look brand new, make sure you tone down the concentration of the color a bit, just as I've done.

2.) Shading
Whether its 8-bit or a graphite drawing, we all know that shading can really tune up any picture. With pixels, shading is a bit different from you're average drawing on lined paper.

Shading Tip: Know where your light source is! Whether its the sun, a flashlight or a lit fireplace, make sure the object/ character's shadow is in the correct angle responding to the light!

When making shading, make sure the shadowing is a noticeably darker hue than the color you're making shading for.

Now here I have displayed to different kinds of shading..no I do not know if they have an actual name so I will give them one! The first one is what I like to call cross-pixel because the shading is practically used in a chess board pattern. This is the one I use very frequently unless theres not enough room to do so successfully.

The second one I call regular line shading, where theres nothing but a simple straight line that creates a decent shadowing.

3.) Lighting
It looks pretty cool when an entire room is dark but somebody has a light on. In this example, its the robots eyes. What I did was make the color around the rings of the eyes bright too so that it gave a headlight effect. Plus the lighter rings in the back of the robot helped too.

Lighting Tip: Like I have said before, its important to know where your light source is. Because the robots eyes are bright, I made the shoulder piece's surface a tad brighter to make it seem like a reflection.

Ex. Accessories: Make sure you're characters have a little zing to them. I know my robot has only a hat, but its better than leaving it bald :3 it's ears might get cold.

I hope that some of these tips are useful to whoever is interested into pixels and has the ambition to learn regardless of their current skill. Even if this only helps one person I feel like my time hasn't been wasted. It has taken me 45 minutes to make this anyways.
