Mah new surfboard! Posted August 18th, 2007 in General

Today i picked out my first-ever brand-new payed-for-by-me surfboard. :D!

I've been surfing for about eight years now. And i have to say that i'm pretty good, considering my age and the fact that i've had experience on mainly tiny-to-good Florida waves. I love surfing more than almost anything : it is pure, exciting, unique, and fucking fun as hell.

My first ever surfboard was a barely used 8'6" Bic board. My dad, who has been surfing for about 25 years now bought it for me at a used surfboard shop. It was made out of pure plastic, so it weighed a fucking TON. It was kind of a lot for a little seven year old chick like me to carry :( But it was easy to catch waves on and ride, so i loved it. I even named it Surfie (i was in the whole naming-everything-i see phase)
My second board, after many years on the Bic, was a 6'8" Spectrum surfboard. It was and old board of my dad's, and was pretty banged up. It had shitloads of pressure dings and stuff on it. Also, since it was almost 2 feet shorter than my Bic, it was really hard for me to ride at first, but eventually i got really good at it.
That's the board i've been riding up until now.

The new board :
After about 3 months of looking in every damn surf shop in North Florida, i finally found it. It's a 6'3" Sparrow surfboard. It's really thin from deck to deck, and 18 3/8 inches wide. It's great for small and big waves, especially the kind we get around Florida. And soon it will be mine! All i have to do is come up with $200.

The board costs $530. I made a down payment of $50 on it, meaning the shop will hold it for a year until i can come up with the other $200. After i pay that much, my parents have agreed to cover the rest. I don't have an easy source of income (no job), and i guess they want to support the whole "surfing" thing.

But anyway, here it is. i was madly in love with the thing when i first saw it, and i love it even more now. It's fucking perfect. I'll post a few pics of it.

So, Newgrounds, behold my new board. Tell me what you think of it's pretty design, and if there are any other surfers on NG (??) tell me what you think of the board, and of the sport.

Response to: Wanna see my bag? Posted August 18th, 2007 in Art

Here's a zoomed-in photo of the bag.
Fabric paints are pretty thick and harder to paint with than acrylics or oils (obviously), so sorry if the edges are a bit fuzzy. :(

Wanna see my bag? Posted August 18th, 2007 in Art

This is a bag that i spent about a week painting this summer.
Due to my lack of Flash skills and my unwillingness to develop them, i decided to do exert some other kind of artistic effort ... but what?
So i looked around in this cabinet that had all this old arts and crafts shit from when i was a kid, and, lo and behold, a bag and a rainbow of fabric paints. Which eventually led me to this.
Tell me what you think of the design and colors! :D

I picked Neutral because the green color burns my corneas more than any of the others.
Also, i don't give enough of a shit to change it.

My tablet has arrived, and this is my first drawing completed with it.
like the 9th started, don't worry, I'll finish all the rest
Coincidentally, it was for the chow #4, infant king.

I think that this is probably your best work so far.
The proportions and shading and everything seem a lot more finished than in any of your previous stuffs.

There's also some interesting movement and linework happening in there. Usually i'm not too into the visible line thing, but the lines you use seem too make it more interesting and give it a cool sketchy look.

i can see that your new tablet is definitely workin for you ;)
Keep it up. i can't wait to see what other crazy stuff you can come out with ;D

Response to: Pan's Labryinth ... Ending. Posted July 15th, 2007 in General

Pan's Labyrinth was one of the best movies that came out this year in my opinion. At first I was hesitant to see it because I thought it was just gonna be another kid's fantasy movie. Then I saw a preview and noticed it was rated R, so i decided it might be worth checking out after all. And then i saw the fucking thing, and it blew me away.

It has INCREDIBLE fantasy elements that are both realistic and pretty damn freaky. And when you cross this with the flinch-worthy war violence with the whole step-father general dude, it was the perfect blend of fantasy and realism. There isn't one boring moment in the entire film. You can really feel the emotions and terror of the characters.

But i definitely found the ending a little off, kinda rushed i guess. And a lot of people i knoe felt that way too. But now that i think about it, i really don't think it could have ended any other way that would be right . i mean, sure, everyone could have died and the demons could have taken over the world or something insane like that, but come on. i honestly don't think any other ending would have fit.

Does anyone have any better ideas to how it could have ended?

It's an awesome song. I LOVE the White Stripes.

If you don't have the new album yet, you should pick it up. Every song on there is just as good as Icky Thump. Conquest is personally my favorite.

The new album is pretty kick-ass. I love the new styles The White Stripes are trying on it.

Response to: Donnie Darko: Your Opinion! Posted July 13th, 2007 in General

Donnie Darko is definitely one of my favorite movies, probably because it's just so fucking weird. i have heard some people say they hated it and MOST people say it was okay but nothing special. But i think it was pretty fucking special. i mean, how many other movies are there about some crazy dude being told about the future and time travel by a six-foot-tall demonic bunny named Frank?

There are a lot of reasons why i like the movie though. i like all the symbolism that runs through it. i like how everything ends up coming together and makes sense in the end. i like how every character in the story is ultimately affected by the choice that Donnie makes in the end. i like how you can almost SEE Donnie going insane. i like the kick-ass soundtrack.

Oh yeah, and it's weird. I like that.

Welcome to the curse, man. i had them for like 3 fucking years and even after all the tightening and the bands, etc, the first couple days were by far the most hellish. i seriously ate nothing but ice cream and applesauce for a week.
You're lucky that you only have them on for 15 months though. i knoe someone who had them for seven YEARS.

Response to: scary movie opinions Posted June 3rd, 2007 in General

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Pretty damn scary. See it. That's all you need to know.

Wishmaster - (1997)

REALLY stupid. Don't even bother.

Aftermath/Genesis - (1994)
Ringu (1998)

You'll have better luck with The Ring, which is the American remake of this, which you prolly already knoe. The American version is much cleaner, because they cut off all the uneccesary, hard-to-understand bits.

Ju-On (2000)

This is one Japanese remake that is FAR better than the American one. It is A LOT scarier and involves a kick-ass scene involving a hotel and a television.

The Ring (Americanization) (2002)

Better and easier to understand than Ringu.

The Grudge (Americanization) (2004)

Not a bad movie in all, but pretty cheesy. The Japanese one is a lot better.

The Ring 2 (Americanization) (2005)

SHIT. JUST.... SHIT.

The Amityville Horror - (2005)

It's okay... not really too scary, and it's pretty predictable.

The Descent - (2005)

Before i saw this one, i had heard really good things about how scary it was, etc. But when i actually took the time to watch it i realized how ridiculous it was.... it is basically a bunch of stupid bitches getting stuck in a cave with blind, flesh-eating gollum-like... things. The whole thing is just a big bloodbath with a lot of gross-out moments with a really ridiculous and kind of pathetic plot behind it. And it has probably the worst ending i have ever seen in a horror flick.

Black Christmas (2006)

I haven't seen this one, and i knoe it's a remake, but COME ON. How desperate is Hollywood getting that they have to start making horror movies out of well-loved holidays... The Easter Bunny Massacre, anyone?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning - (2006)

I was actually surprised by how much better this was than i thought it would be. it had some genuinely creepy and disturbing moments in it, and had a far better, more solid, and scarier plot than the original.

The Hills Have Eyes - (2006)

This is the WORST horror movie i have ever seen IN MY LIFE. And i've seen A LOT. The entire movie movie is disgusting, and by the end you kind of want EVERYONE dead: the mutants AND the people that you're supposed to want to live. The thing just goes for shock value and comes with a complete arsenal of mutant cannibalism, mutants raping 15-year old chicks, baby-licking, mother-shooting, breastmilk-drinking mutantness. Is seriously made me feel nauseous. Don't even think about it.

The Hills Have Eyes 2 – (2007)

NO.

Friday the 13th Series

Just slasher movies. i wouldn't really even call them 'horror'.

Nightmare on Elm Street Series

Even if you don't get scared by these (even though they do have some pretty damn scary moments) the awesome and original (for the time) plot will keep you interested.

Sorry, but The Shining probably has to be one of my favorite horror movies. It's got a really great plot that keeps you going (yes, i knoe it was based off a book, i have read it) and some damn creepy moments. It's not as scary or shocking or disgusting as some, but it's a helluva lot better and more original. As for The Exorcist... don't argue with the classics. You CAN'T tell me you don't like that movie. Also, check out the Final Destination movies (if you like the gore), and The Omen. And Cabin Fever if you like trashy, scary, gory nastiness. That one's always good for some laughs.

I may have missed a few. Try to give an educated or at least well thought out reply.

Yes.
