WEST NYACK - A Rockland County man in his 20s apparently committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor inside the Palisades Center tonight, Clarkstown police said.
It appears that they voluntarily jumped off the fourth floor, said Clarkstown police Sgt. Brian Gorsky.
Clarkstown police were on scene, but an ambulance was cancelled, because the person was found dead at the scene, Gorsky said.
The body landed on the bottom floor of the mall, which has access to the parking garage, at the foot of an escalator.
There was yellow police tape cordoning off the scene, and the body had a yellow tarp over it. Officers told onlookers to keep moving.
One vendor at the mall said the impact sounded like a car crash.
I was at the palisades mall when this happened. i didnt see the man jump, but i saw him fall and hit the parking level. it sounded like a gunshot to me. he jumped from the 4th floor to the parking level which is basically falling 5 floors. i saw him face first on the floor and blood was all around his head. it was one of the scariest things ive ever seen. sorry theres not too much information cause it only happened today.
