Hey just a quick question, if a game gets submitted and isnt that bad but doesnt happen to win a prize does the creator have to keep the logos and preloader on there or is there additional sponsorship available for those type of situations?

Thats awesome mate! Everyone else doesn't seem to see the complexity of the game they only care about the graphics don't give your engine away just yet. some ideas i had

Make the lines disappear after a while and have the point you start drawing from be a cloud that you walk on to get you around. the most fun element i found was holding down jump and drawing a line right beneath the little dude kinda makes its like an elevator... keep the colourful theme going and make its sort of a game maybe in the clouds where the object of each level is the find the exit or find your way out and have just a single massive level with many things to do inside it...

These are the shortlist, most have online portals you submit your game to, but as an incentive its nice for you to put "YOUR LOGO HERE" and just put placeholders everywhere so the sponsors know how far your willing to go in terms of branding, right-click menus are always a plus...

also dont bother with price wars, just think of the price you want for your game and stand by it tell the sponsors straight up how much you want for it in the email when you contact them and a lot will just accept if they ask for less then you can tell them that you got an offer for more but don't be greedy, if your game is good enough then it will earn you what you want.

also mochi ads are quite good but it may take you a year before you see the prices you would get with a good sponsor so it depends if you want to make money now or in 2 years time..

basically what i would suggest is to make an array of all the objects, sort them by their y position and then swap their depths one at a time so that way if you want to add more characters or things in later on you wont have to worry about changing a bunch of code, you just add it to the array

ha yeah i just started a new job at liquid animation in my city making educational flash games and where i first rocked up everyone was sorta wearing shoes but i always wear thongs (um yeah i think that is a differnt meaning in the US, thongs in Australia are like.. flip flops or something, like sandles but just one strap over your big toe) anyway so after i week i just thought screw it im going to be comfortable and started wearing them to work everyday and now after almost a month at least 4 people are wearing them everyday to work now... also i think i started the trend of wearing them with jeans as well cause nobody seems to do that and at least 2 of them now are doing it :)

Breaks

I am sorta on a break now i guess... ever since uni started again and with work taking over i am doing 12 day weeks where i get every 2nd weekend off not to mention all the home work so its starting to annoy me i dont have enough free time to do what i enjoy and plus working as a flash developer you kinda get sick of it during the day and dont really want to come home and keep on "working" at home but still it would be nice to make some new games cause ive got a ton of ideas

has anyone tasted that new energy drink from coke called mother? I went to the launch of a new club in my city called the Australian National Hotel and they had free drinks from 9pm - 2am which was awesome i must have drunk about $150 worth of alcohol my head is great this morning! Anyway Coke and Mother were hosting the party (Work got me on the VIP list :D) cause it was a launch and it was invite only there was about 100-200 people there and we were having jager bombs all night but i gotta tell you im not a fan of the new drink.. it tastes like ginger beer or something the most similar thing i can think of is that Pepsi blue shit they had a while ago HA i got it for FREE and i still didnt want to have it... has anyone else tried it?

3D animations

something occured to me the other day, i call movies like shrek, finding nemo and toy story cartoons cause thats what they are really... but then i got in trouble for calling them that cause some people say they must be called 3d animations but i mean cartoons are called 2d animations sometimes but they still got the cartoon title.. i dunno what do you call them?

man i used to have heaps long hair but i had to get it cut for work... i didnt get a cut in over 18 months but it was only down to like past my ears...

man its that german beer right? i love it my friend loves all german things so hes got a fridge full of em at his house but the strange thing is, he doesnt drink alcohol anymore so we just go over to help him get more fridge space :) he also has a cabinet full of differnt alcs but its kinda weird drinking by yourself when he doesnt so most the time we dont unless we are having cigars...

there is going to be a lot of entries it would be better if you created just 1 really good game rather than 10 ok ones if you know what i mean and if you want to make 10 mini games go for it! just remember we are aiming for quaility not quantity :)

Also some cool news i have spoken with dave from wiicade.com and looks like the API will work on NG around the same time as we will be launching it so go over to the site and get their API if you want to use it! although the game will be launched all over the shop so at the beginning of the game it will ask the user if they are actually playing on a wii or on a computer then if the server the game is hosted on isnt NG or wiicade.com it will swap out the swf for the proper files
