What if we were able to pass through a wormhole? What would happen then?
Oh man i love reading about this stuff it is so interesting. Well i think i read somewhere that if we were able to pass through a wormhole we would not be able to get back becuase once we go through it it cloes begind us. So wherever we end up we are kinda stuck there.
At 3/14/09 07:07 AM, RubberTrucky wrote: Well, that IS science fiction, in my opinion. I think it's highly unlikely that there is something factual like an alternate reality and that wormholes are the portals to those other worlds. In the center of a black hole, there's only dead or maybe something like the center of a vortex.
It sounds alot like science fiction, but alot of it has been proved real, by theoretical means. Well i agree with you that alternate realites dont't exist but i believe that there a parallel universes and that is where the wormholes may dump you. Some of the most current theories of the big bang have parallel universes in them. One is that we are just a bud of another univerese.
Black holes are crazy things. I read somewhere that when you cross the event horizon you are ripped apart atom by atom. The gravity increase dramatically at your feet while it stay the same at your head. So you see you legs being suck in and then i think they would just rip off.
I don't know exactly how tv space thing Is going to be resolved. I agree that space is getting to crowded. Maybe we will find a way to keep the stations in place. I read about certain points in space where the gravity of our planet and the other planets gravity cancel out. I hope that makes sense

I think you guys aren't fully understanding what i said, or i just didnt't explain it right. what i ment is that sometime in the future, most likely a long way in the future. Humans will relize that all this fighting is stupid and that we are better off just banning together as a human race and not as various countries, races, and religions. Now i dont even know if this will ever happen it is just what i think. Also i dont think that everyone will accept it just a majority of the population will.

On those notes, peace is an illusion, mankind has been fighting each other ever since ancient times. We will never be able to reach a level of maturity where everyone can get along and live "Happily ever after" that is just not going to happen, ever.
I disagree with that statement. I think a time will come where everyone relizes that it is stupid to be seperated by such little things like the color of your skin or religious affiliation. I believe one day we will unite as the human race. When that days come i will never know but hopefully soon.

Whats with this poll. Whats it for?
Hey i got a question for you guys. Do you think that the human race is still evolving? And if yes then in what ways?

Um here's an idea have an alternate myth where the hero loses and then has to win his favor back or something like that. Or have the gods create a like super human to defeat a villian and then have the being the gods created turn on them and epic god vs being fight. Then have the gods defeated and all the other heros come and rescue them

Global warming doesn't work that fast. If it did my house would probably be underwater by now. Also global warming happens in really small increments like fractions of a degree higher (though thats all it takes to cause damage).did you know that about 2 degrees is enough to piss us all (i mean life... big size life not bacterias)
and it is exponential...
the hotter it is the faster it will increase
so probably what he said is thrue... maybe not that fast, i think most of us will still be alive to see the concecuenses of it
Well yes global warming does happen in really small incraments, and 2 degrees warmer would screw alot of us. Some of us would still be alive and alot of things would change. I remember reading that the time before the dinosaurs there were like 5 foot dragonflys, 5 foot scorpions, and giant snakes and alligators. And back then the temperature was like 6 degrees warmer than it is now.

Ya it is but its still not working. It was a basic plan if i remember that outlines like how much greenhouse gases a nation can produce. Most countries have ratified it, but the us hasnt. And i dont think most nations are listenging to it.

That's my point actually. We can't just stop producing greenhouse gasses at once.
Steps are taken with Kyoto and such. That's all we can do at the time.

Oh well i guess there was this asteriod that was about 10 stories tall, that came within 1/5 of the distance from earth to the moon. So basically it came really close to earth. The crazy part is that noone really noticed that it was coming, i think it was after it passed that they finally noticed it. This is like only a week old to.
Anyone hear about the asteriod that went like crazy close to earth.

Almost everything is a science and people don't understand that.
I can totally relate to that my friend sometimes mocks me for wanting to be a scientist. So i am like well it has real world applications and i can help people with it, and he said that it did not and it was politics that run the world and stuff. Pissed me off. Still like what my dad says that business runs the wrold but science discovers the world, or something like that.

So, when stuff happens someone sees that stuff, then they use what they saw to make an inference about the stuff they saw, or they find out something new about the stuff that was doing stuff.
Or more recently it goes the other way. Where the people discover the theory and then find some way to test it. Actually that is basically how modern physics is. Now they can't even really test the theories experiementally. Such as the string theory or the various big bang theories.

I dont really watch to many science shows as much as i read about sceince. My favorite science shows have to be the universe and modern marvels on history.
My favorite science auothors are Michiu Kaku and Brian Greene
Ha ok good math discussion lets get back to science now.
What are your guys' opinion on fuel cells?
Currently i have a pretty good math teacher. Like he know what he is doing and everything and explains the concepts pretty well.
Oh and i read some where that Obama's has some ideas for the science department, yes.
ha i got a fun game. Its kinda mythological in that it is about an emperor and the setting is Rome and the weapons are in Latin. Here is the link http://www.adultswim.com/games/game/?gam e=vivacaligula. Its a pretty fun game.
Ha yes just submitted mine, what do u guys think?
Extinguishing a Light
I remember the day so vividly. I get home from playing at a friend's house and see that my mom is upset and crying. One of the family friends is standing by the door, and my aunt is by my mother comforting her. I realize that something is wrong, and my stomach contracts and my mouth runs dry.
My uncle comes over and tells me the horrible news; my father has just died of a heart attack. The news hits me like a ton of bricks. I don't know how to react. My dad is dead. I will never see him again never feel his loving embrace. Tears start streaming down my face, and I push past my uncle and run.
I run to my dad's shed, tears streaming down my face. I can't believe that he is dead. How did this happen? Why did it happen to me? Why did my father die?
I go to the shed because this is where my dad and I would spend a lot of time together. He would work on his wood and I would some times help him. I still can't bear the fact that I will never see him again.
As I enter the shed and close the door behind me I see a loan candle. Its light mesmerizes me, how the fire flickers. I realize that this is one of the last things that my father did, light this candle. I want to keep it to remember him always. Keep it lite as a sign that he is alive. But I can't.
Eventually this candle will burn out. Its wick spent, the wax burned out. Just like my father. Then it dawned upon me how similar life is to a candle. How something as small as a gust of wind can extinguish a candle. And how something like a heart attack can kill a person.
People come in to and leave this world all the time. Who cares right? Death is a part of life. But when the person who dies is close to you death becomes all the more poignant.
When this light goes out not many people will know that it goes out, and not many people will care. Its just one light there are millions of others on this world. But this light is special to me. It is keeping the impending darkness from engulfing me. It gives me what little warmth it can offer me.
If say half of all the lights in the world went out people would take a notice. Then they would start to care. But they wouldn't know each individual lights name and what it had given to people. They would only know that a lot of lights had gone out.
I relate this to the recent death of my father that I still cannot accept. He died and is gone forever. Only a select number of people know that he is dead, and truly care that he is dead. A person in Europe doesn't care that my father is dead they didn't know him. But I did.
Eventually when my mother dies and then me, my father's memory will be forgotten. No one will remember the things that he did for me. How he set aside money for college every month. He will be lost to a time that is every flowing.
I break out of this trance and the lights hypnotic spell. I then realize that my father is not dead; he is with me. He is in the memories that I hold within my mind, he is in the trees and sky, and most importantly he is in me.
Then I wonder what has happened to my dad. I realize that he is gone, but has he gone to heaven or what. Is he swishing around the solar system, or is he just gone. The idea of just being gone is preposterous. My father cannot be gone he is still around in spirit, in heaven or something like that.
I am startled as I hear something creak and objects being shuffled. It sounds like someone is approaching me, but I did not hear the shed doors open. I hear it getting closer and closer till I realize that it is stopped right in front of me. I am standing right next to the light hoping that it won't go out and leave me in the dark.
Just then a breeze blows in from the window and blows out the candle. I am scared out of my wits. My heart is pounding; I am hyperventilating, and sweating. Then I hear my fathers voice and he says don't be afraid I am with you, and will always be with you.
I calm down and realize that I am with my dad. I start yelling why did you have to die? I don't know what to do with out you. I don't hear an answer, and start yelling more questions. Why wont you answer me? Please just give me a sign that you are here. Then the candle relights and am bathed in its comforting glow.
I leave the shed and go to comfort my mother. After that experience in the shed I realize that my father is dead physically, but spiritually he lives on. Thinking about it in this way I know accept the death of my father. And so time does go on without him, but he remains with me through out that time. Not in body, but in spirit.
I graduate high school, then college, get a job, get married, and finally have kids of my own. I did not forget my father though; every year on the day he died I would light a candle in remembrance of him.

Or, Are we only allowed to talk about the natural sciences? :/
Yes social sciences count in this club, i am currently takeing a psychology class. And you can take about really any science.

One of the things I find ironic about science is how it never would have picked up if not for religious philosophy, whereas today the two can be at odds. Shwooo.
You are in, and please elaborate on the religious philosophy part i cant think of how the two interacted.

Seems like a godd solution but the question is how cost effective is it. One of the things with clean energies and things like this is that it is cheaper to just use oil.

So what's new guys?
Ok new topic time.
What are you guys views on solutions for global warming?
Mine is that we need to look at alternate sources of energy. Like solar wind and those types. I am working on this thing at my school and we are resarching fuel with a nearby university. We need to be looking at alternate sources of energy that are green very seriously. We all know about globals warming and the future that is in store if we don't do anything about it.
