I basically had Marle and Lucca in my team the whole game where possible; the only times I removed one of the two were at events in the story where a certain character has to be in your team temporarily.

Animated sigs are irritating and exploitable though. I never liked them, I probably used a few but typically I didn't like seeing threads plagued in animation.
