lol where did m-audio converters come into the picture? regardless, thanks for the suggestions! all these informational articles on preamps/digital interfaces are sooo confusing, they all talk about the preamp being the first thing to go for cost-cutting on interfaces, but apparently they're all lying.

hey, after long hours of homework as someone new to recording (vocals and some instruments), im planning on copping a m-audio solaris condenser mic and a prosonus tubepre preamp. given my standards, i am spending mad bank for this stuff even though the preamp isnt like anything super high quality or anything. but i need to, like, record to a computer, and i don't want to skimp on something lame for that.

so given this stuff, do u guys have any suggestions? i don't need a preamp in my audio interface for fairly obvious reasons, i don't need a built in preamp. i really only need 1 mic input right now since i wouldn't be recording an entire band or anything at the same time. i'm using windows vista 32bit. i know i need to make sure drivers are compatible (and regularly updated) for a good product. sad thing is, i'm having trouble finding resources for searching for a decent one for my system given my expectations.

for now, i'm using this for a full desktop. ideally, i wouldn't use a PCI one since once i run off to college i'd probably be using a laptop (though i have found suitable, well-reviewed ones thru PCI), so its looking firewire or usb. do you have any suggestions? my budget would ideally be _below_ 200-300 dolla. those 120471947019740971 dollar interfaces? not so hot. if i can get down to 100 dollars, i would be thrilled. if i can push it even lower, i'd cry.

thx newgrounds ttyles

1) you get a paypal account. it is linked to a bank account.
2) album gets sales.
3) your share of the money gets wired to you, based on your track's sales.

kaiz, i cant speak for sanryd but i can kind of see what he means. its not all over the place in terms of structure as far as i can tell, but it kind of is instrumentally. theres a lot of delayed synths playing at the same time with the pulsing bass and rapid hats/drum line, which makes the song's rhythm fall into mud. also, some things like the transition at :47ish were really abrupt making the song have a very superficial build up there.

idk, thats what i think :)

What song is that high harmony taken from?

I'm sorry it wasnt what you wanted :(

if hes talking about the 3 note broken chord, thats a pretty commonly used sound, so it seems strange to point it out as being taken from another song. a piece of advice for the reviewer--be careful about pulling connections between different songs in a negative way, because yes, a lot of music that is made is influenced by other tracks. just call it generic or unoriginal like in your other reviews, or something like that.

Topic: Stuttering, an easier way?

Posted: 09/27/09 12:17 AM

Forum: Audio

i mean, instead of using a hardware knob and trying to automate it by hand, you can manually draw changes in the level for that channel in. in reason, at least, you can make sure your stuttering is regular by _reducing the quantization_ of the points mapped using vector automation and then just copypasta the automation as a loop. what i mean is that, for example, any notes you would lay down would automatically snap to 1/16th notes or something, and by doing that, you can make sure the intervals are consistent. probably you can do similar things across different programs.

i think its safe to say that its probably 6 inches too tall

he wanted it to be about half as tall. so it's safe tos ay its probably 3 inches too tall.

Topic: Does soundcard matter?

Posted: 09/21/09 09:28 PM

Forum: Audio

it isn't very hard to hear the difference. get some headphones (they don't need to be very expensive or anything to tell the difference.) go to a computer with a shitty/no sound card. if you plug it in and you hear a buzz, thats pretty much a dead giveaway. i hear it all the time with the standard stuff crappy dells come with.

im using a creative soundblaster fatal1ty sound card, and it's pretty decent. for hobbyists it doesnt really matter that you get an awesome audiophile card--or an external digital audio converter and a preamp if you are that intense. just get something, so it isnt quite that crappy.

im not gonna lie, for all these epic trance/dance/house songs... people need to find different chord patterns. its kinda killing me right now listening to all the subs, regardless of how well they're produced, when you feel that they all mesh together into a musical blob when you listen to them back to back... haha. i guess it's a pet peeve, but just throwing that out there.

to me that kick sounds not like the synthetic kinds of kicks you'd find in VEC but more like a good old, standard rock drum kit kind of kick, which was then compressed to make it punchier and bring out the higher freqs like you mentioned, maybe EQ'd to get a rounder sound, and then layered with some noise with a highpass. btw, heres a frequency chart to help you out on what frequencies are useful to bump up/kill off for general use:

i havent tried this stuff yet, but i think that would work.

the point of education really isnt to shove math into your head. everyone knows you're going to probably forget it all. i think its much more to develop character and work ethics. but not only is that monstruously failing in our current system, but most students dont recognize that ultimate goal at all.

Still, if its legal and taxed, it'll the be sold stilled. Simply because it isn't against the law doesn't mean it won't cause addiction. Besides, the effects of Alcohol aren't quite the same as hard-core drugs.

yeah, sure, but it doesnt mean it will cause addiction either. thats my point. for all the drug addicts out there now, theyll fiesta. for all the non drug addicts, chances are they wont, and the taboo becomes far less exciting.

btw, just because drugs become legalized, that doesnt mean that the government cant get anything out of it. tax the shit!
If we allowed all the products that have been refused access to the people by the Food and Drug Administration and taxed them all, of course we'd make more money, but that would be allowing a dangerous product to enter the public realm.

Sure', we'd make money, but it can't be at the expense of the people. That's totally fucked up.

idk about you, but heavy taxes seems to be a good disincentive for buying them. just saying.

Speeding(/ traffic) laws are, some even claim that speed limitations are totally unnecessary or even more dangerous.

i mean, it depends on the setting. having speed limits inside urban areas is definately a smart thing to have because you stop risking vehicular homicide and stupid shit like that. fine, maybe we can go autobahn with our highways.

Swindling doesn't work on smart people and theft might just cause minimal damage.

thats just a terrible argument. because they are "inferior" they are worthless? lol unless you're joking, i find that to send my justice-o-meter off the charts.

those aren't victimless crimes.

But then again, we'd have alot more people in drug rehab centers. Is it worth it? Legalizing drugs would mean sending far more Americans into crippling drug addiction then we already have. No matter what, it'll end up costing us something. Either the Prisons or the Government Rehab Centers.
