Thats not much to show for 5 hours of work. What more are you planning on doing with it? Color? Shade? Adding a stool so she isnt floating in midair? And again, that shoulder.... fix it.

Well, as a stand alone drawing its nothing special. It does have a certain charm to it though. Something this simple screams out to have others with it. Like I said alone it has no strength, but if you made a whole crap load of these (preferably to be viewed all at once) it might be going somewhere. And by a crap load I mean 100+

I am assuming you are going for a warped perspective which explains the tiny feet and strange angle. however I feel like its not exaggerated enough. Really push that distortion to add a much more powerful effect. Maybe when more is added in the current pose would make sense and balance out, but as it stands right now it just seems to be holding back to much.

Its essentially a trace being colored in, not much to say honestly. I will however comment on the part that you are actually doing. The human eye is a funny thing, only about 2% of its field of vision is in focus at any given time. if you want something to look scaly, DON'T draw every scale. Instead think about the areas where light is hitting the surface and ONLY draw the scales in that area, dissipating as the light recedes into shadow. The brain will fill in the rest of the scales. If you do try to draw all the texture on an object all over the thing it will end up looking flat and busy. Normally shading will substitute for trying to draw each and every scale as long as you draw some scales in the areas of light (but make sure to allow the light to cut through the scales and drown some out as well.

Good move.
For the future just flag the submission, and put as much description and detail with links of why its stolen or breaks the rules and the mods will take care of it pretty quick. I know that I personally check pieces that are flagged every 10-20 minutes that I am on NG, so chances are I'll see the flag and take care of it from there. And when im not around im sure the other mods do it pretty regularly as well.

Feel free to do detective work, it makes our job easier than just saying "stolen" and giving no other info. But don't try PMing the user or you might fuck up a potential snare. Its best to just flag a piece and leave it to the mods to handle the rest.

Here is a guide for detective work. (The next step assumes that the previous failed to produce results)
1.Tineye
2. Do they have a deviant art? If yes check there. Does it match the work?
3. Search deviantart anyway, use similar titles or characters (search by popularity seems to get faster results, because people steal good stuff most of the time)
4. Is there a signature on the piece? Does it match each piece? Can you read the name?
5. If they have a name listed, google it, look for a real artist website.
6. If you find their real website, you can either flag it and use that as a link (most real artists will link to their official website) or PM a mod and have them look into it, it is possible that the website is old and its not a thief, but mods have their own secret tricks for telling. Please don't PM the possible thief, it just makes our job harder.
7. If no website is found but you are still sure search other art websites you frequent, you'd be suprised what comes up.
8. If you are still sure its stolen but cant find any proof either flag it so that we are alerted, or post a link in here and other users might have better luck. We will let you know if we find out that it is a legit artist so that you all can relax.

Topic: men like sex more then women?

Posted: 09/14/09 12:53 AM

Forum: General

Im just gonna come out and say this. I know there is that old saying that chicks think about sex, or want it just as much as guys, but it is complete and utter bullshit.

Lets put it this way ladies, for every guy that walks down the street do you think "Yeah I'd fuck him right now" because pretty much all guys do. Guys would fuck somewhere around 60% of the chicks they see everyday (80-90% depending on how picky the guy is or where he hangs around). Its an average but it proves a point. Guys will take sex anytime with pretty much any girl given she is somewhat decent if he had the chance.

Lets play this scenario, a guy can read girls minds, he knows when they want to fuck or not, he hears them thinking when they see him "ooo i'd fuck him" so he approaches them, and gets slapped, probably every time. Why? because girls might think it, but they wont act on it all the time. Same scenario but reverse the genders, girl reads mind, she will be amazed at how many guys she sees would fuck her no questions asked. So when she approaches she would only get turned down because the guy might think she is full of shit or gets the dog who catches the car syndrome, but trust me he wants to go bang her out right then and there.

So ladies unless you literally think about riding every 7/10 guys you see per DAY, you dont want sex as bad as dudes. I know girls who claim to be full out nymphos, but they dont even come close to your average guy, which is another point, only really crazy nymphomaniac girls get even near the level of sexual desire that a guy has.

Also great job on the scouting guys. A tip would be after this list is done is to check the back pages first of the unscouted section, and then go through each page from there to find hidden gems. Also a I find that looking at peoples favorites is a good way to catch some who for whatever reason arent in the unscouted section and still need scouting.

Thats one intense grid you got there.

For the future, there isnt all that much wrong using a grid for compositional elements, or if exact replica is the goal of the piece but two things to consider next time you use one.
1. make the grid very very light, i can see it on your yuna piece still because you werent able to erase it.
2. The grid will help in positioning of stuff, so you dont have to focus on that as much, but it wont help value recognition. Take a look at your darks on the guy piece, they are no where near the same strength as the darks in the reference pic.

We have considered threads like this, but the more we think about it the worse idea it seems. The unscouted section pretty much does this purpose because if you are eligible for scouting you will show up there and if your stuff is good you will get scouted. A thread would also get clogged really fast, because you would have to go through each person on each page each visit to see if someone was scouted already, or was scouted and then dropped for whatever reason. The scouting system is too dynamic to be monitored in a static thread.

Also, there should be a standard set in then faq. I, and many others, have no idea how good a drawing has to be to be accepted into the portal.

Its hard to decide what is good and what isnt because art is so personal and subjective. There are some that are obviously good enough, and others that obviously arent. The grey area would be nice to give some clarification to, but the best we can do is refine the rules to weed out certain styles or methods.

These are all really great helpful suggestions, keep them coming people.

The scouting system was not a good idea, there has to be several of us who have uploaded their own work right after the art portal had opened, and yet most of that work has even been considered, all because it has not been scouted. So, no one will see it on the art portal front page or the search, so really, there's no point in uploading more when you aren't going to get any recognition for your work.

First lets remember that you have to have a certain number a pieces in order to even have the option to be scouted. Next keep in mind that for the most part, if your stuff is good and worthy of the art portal, chances are it will be scouted. The system is new and has a few glitches here and there, but as those get worked out more deserving people are being discovered. Also keep in mind that if you haven't been scouted, your chance of front page recognition is pretty slim anyway. As for not even being able to be searched, that I agree can be seen as a problem for some. But its not like if you aren't scouted your art cant even been SEEN. Anyone can see your art, the difference is that it just wont appear in the art portal listings.

And it seems like, for you to get recognition, you must obtain recognition first, which sounds like something out of a crazy 1987 home vanity video where a washed up 80s soap opera star says these lines: "Fashion can be acquired by having fashion." So you can have fashion if you have fashion, but you must acquire fashion first.

Well you do kinda have to have talent, and you have to show that talent in order to be considered amoung the talented, we cant just take your word for it ;)

At 9/9/09 12:48 AM, wwwyzzerdd wrote: One thing that makes the flash portal great is that you can come out of nowhere with an overnight success. The biggest flaw with scouting is that you need to hit it out of the park 4 times, hope you're noticed, THEN you can be the next big thing. It's a lot less susceptible to abuse than the Flash Portal system though, and that's just as important.

Most good artists get noticed pretty quick. And a lot have hit major success pretty quick, i mean I have never heard of a lot of the top artists in there, but pretty much right after scouting they became big celebrities in their own right. As for needing 4 pieces, any consistently good artist most likely has a lot more than just 4 pieces on file they could submit, that's not that hard to achieve.

Also; may I go back to the point about there being a lot of the same style available. What I mean is most of it is just a drawing of a character and not much else. Even worse is much of the characters are just Newgrounds characters that people redrew. There shouldn't be as much encouragement of this as there is. I will admit that there are some great drawings but I'm rather bored with seeing the same characters.

We notice that as well, but thats more the user base than the portals fault. Think about the flash portal, or the audio portal. Flash is largely video game parodies and sprite movies, or fan flashes. Audio portal is largely techno or frooty loops generated style stuff. its hard to tell people to do something different, we definitely encourage it, buts its ultimately up to the users to act upon it.

Maybe if you posted some work here as well you would have more incentive to visit it. I mean you visit DA because you have work there, why not here?

To summarise, I can't do more then three things when I'm on a site.

The problem we have currently with 3-D stuff is that not too many mods know that much about that media. Also alot of 3-D programs do so much work without the artists hand that it isnt fair to those who really spend time on their work (rather than type in a few numbers, or use preset models) to have to compete with the lazy ones.

The flash portal is full of garbage, some great stuff, but its largely junk sadly. The art portal is trying to be junk free, we want those who spend time on their work and have talent to be recognized for it, instead of getting clumped in with a bunch of 5 minute doodles and crappy MSpaint stick figures. The scouting system eliminates the need to have to delete a users work just because its bad. A user can have as much crap on their user page as they like, and can showcase their work for whatever reason there as well as long as it doesnt break any rules. If we implemented a blam system users couldn't do that.

I think you don't quite understand how scouting works. In the scouting section, when you click on a thumbnail, I would hope you view the rest of the user's gallery before you scout. And you don't have to scout each image, just hitting "scout this user once" does the trick.

Eh, you can see on my art page I have a rather rough sketch of what I would look like as a clock. Its not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. But, shouldn't that still be able to be placed in the portal and just receive a low score? Its rough, maybe, but its a character I'd use for a flash if I were going to make a clock film. I don't understand why an art mod would relegate that to personal profile only as was done.

The scores in the art portal aren't really an good indicator of much because art is so subjective. There are amazing pieces that have low scores for whatever reason (users being homophobic seems to be a big one), and rather mediocre ones that have high scores (fanboys). Certain styles seem to warrant certain scores as well, even though they dont reflect the quality of the work. While we art mods realize that art is very subjective and what one person finds crap another will find great, we try to use our best judgment to distinguish between something that we dont personally like, but is still good work, and just flat out bad art.

At 9/8/09 02:25 PM, Lost-Wisdom wrote: The scouting system is flawed. There's a lot of talented artists out there yet it takes a long period of take for them to get taken off from the scouting feature.

Sometimes artists aren't eligible for scouting, you need to have 4 pieces to be even have to option to be scouted. Also because users can only scout 2 people a day sometimes a few people have to wait a little bit. Generally though good people will get scouted within a few days of being eligible if they appear in the unscouted section.

That's more of an individual mod thing. Some mods will just castrate a user who makes bad choices, others will prune, and some will not blame the scouter and just prune the bad egg. If you get descouted because someone above you made bad choices don't worry, if you have been scouted before chances are someone will see you pretty soon and pick you back up.

We could have had a under judgment system like the flash portal, but then you wouldn't have the option of just displaying your images (no matter how bad) in your user page. And since we want the art portal to be more than an image dump full of crap like deviant art, without a scouting system mods would be forced to DELETE work that isn't up to par as opposed to just remove it from the portal but leave it in your user page.

We can encourage it, but that's really up to the users who submit, we cant force people to submit one kind of work over another, but we will definitely keep our eye out for more pieces that are aimed at that.

hey guys, for those of you recluses who never leave the art forum, please post your feedback in this thread. I put it in general because it targets largely users who don't go to the art portal.

This thread is to help the art mods and staff to make the art portal a better place.

We are always curious what the general public thinks about the new art portal. So in this thread we want to hear the following feedback from all of you. Feel free to answer any or all of these questions or add anything that you feel hasn't been addressed.

Do you visit the art portal? If not then why? What could we add or subtract that would make you start going there? If you have any ideas of what might attract more people please speak up. If there is something that is making the art portal undesirable that can be changed let us know, or if you really like its format feel free to say so, positive feedback is always welcome.

What do you think about the scouting system? There is one thing that we hear a lot of, that the scouting system is flawed, so what do you think should be done to make it better? Or do you feel that the scouting system is great and can attest to it working by weeding out all the junk that would be clogging up the art portal? For this one it would help us to know if you have ever been scouted before, or even know how scouting works.

and yes we know about the recent hiccup in the system so lets leave that out.

Are there any rules that you would like to see added, or changed? Let us know if there are certain rules that really bug you, hopefully we can provide a good reason why that rule is there. And if we cant then maybe that rule will be changed.

What do you think about the job the mods are doing? Good, Bad? Let us know what we can change to improve, or if we are doing a great job just as we are. Any feedback is welcome. And don't worry we wont take it personal and delete all your stuff if you call us out on something.

For all of these please provide examples whenever you can or feel it necessary, they will definitely help prove your point. Also don't be afraid to say something even if its already been said, the more people who point out something the better.

Now lets hear your feedback. But keep in mind that blatantly retarded posts will be removed.

As of right now only a few people (15-20) are scouted. A restore will either take place which will mostly return things to the way they were, or we will start from scratch again.

Dont worry either way. If you were scouted chances are you will be again, and it will be like nothing happened. Your scores will be the same, as will views and everything, the only thing that might change is who you scouted and who scouted you.

It may take a while but everything will be exactly back to the way it was just be patient.

BlockPosters.com take any image you want and blow it up and make a poster of it out of many sheets of paper.

It doesnt really matter if you see crap in the art portal because chances are that it wont be there for long. Just because a 10 second stick figure drawing got in because someone scouted the artist, doesnt mean that it is acceptable work, or something to use as a comparisson. Just keep in mind that 99% of the time that 10 second stick figure will be removed pretty damn quick. So unless you are seeing the same piece of crap that HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED (if it keeps getting taken down and put back up that dosent count) then dont worry about it.

If your unscouted can you be scouted once again or are you just permanently banned from the art portal?

Yes you can always be rescouted as long as you have 4 pieces and are not BANNED. And as long as you dont get caught stealing stuff or breaking any rules you shouldnt have to worry about being banned.

That jeep medal in toss the turtle is being a huge bitch, any tips on getting it. I figured out that if you shoot yourself close to the ground it appears more often, but it always stays the same distance behind you or you are going to fast and it disappears right away. With weaker cannons i cant seem to get it to appear at all.
